Slash was and is a universal guitarist. But G&R (Guns N Roses) broke so many barriers with this song (their first MTV/Top 40 hit). I adore the music of the 1970s. It's the music of my youth. But the 1980s/1990s was the music of my adolescence. These guys changed the scene before Kurt Cobain and Seattle grunge came along. The 1980s was amazing for the change to newer genres. But a lot of amazing music came from the 1900s and early 2000s.

Slash likes to be strong silent guy, but, don't think for a second his extraordinary skill has went underappreciated in the USA. I am 54 and remember their first radio airplay. Slash is definitely one of the guitar legends boys.

I was 11 when the Welcome To The Jungle Video hit MTV. I lived in the Bible belt and there was widespread belief that heavy metal was satanic. My parents were religious, so I had to sneak to listen to Motley Crue or ACDC. None of the metal songs I heard shocked me like the this song and video did though. It literally scared the shit out of me. There was just something different, more authentic, about it. Even as a preteen, I had a sense that Motley Crue was playing dress up, but those dudes meant it.

The visuals, the dark room, these unfriendly-looking outfits, the long messy hair, the punk dance, the guitar shreddings, the violent lyrics, the broken voice of the singer, the grunting noises, the chaotics shown in the TVs, even the background of this band,... everything looks haunted and messed up in this single music video. I hope you didn't get any nightmare after seeing it when you were 11

"Paradise City" official music video. It's of a live concert..... You get to see the energy they bring to the crowd. Excellent reaction!

This was the last real 'bad boys of rock and roll' - they were cool, they lived the life of drugs and sex to the limit and they sang about it! In the late 80's and very early 90's they were the BIGGEST band in the world, but drugs, alcohol and in-fighting in the band between Axl and the rest of the group caused them to implode! The story of a true ROCK and ROLL band. They are legends! thanks for your review and keep smiling!🤘😃

They were banned from some venues because of what went on at the concerts. I don't remember Oasis as being "bad boys".....'course I'm getting older and my memory isn't what it used to be.

I don't totally agree with you. Tokyo on many songs the sound is very poorly mixed and the tempo too slow. For Freddy Mercury the performances are nice and rock n roll but Slash plays these solos in a very simplified way. If the Bro don't know the final paradise city solo for example, they won't really see it at the Freddy Tribute. For Tokyo the versions of Estranged and Knock they are yes. For Welcome the Ritz 1988 version is perfect. You could be Mine live Florida 91 is superb. Civil War in Paris is a good version, but I still prefer Chicago 92.

"Civil War" ONLY studio version, those live versions kinda suck from sound side and it doesn`t give you perfect feeling of this song, same with "Estranged"... I only agree about "Paradise City" tho

It may be controversial (and certainly a matter of opinion), but they did a couple of covers that I think were better than all other versions: Live and Let Die, and Knocking on Heaven’s Door.

I decided to comment here since It's your most recent video and more likely that you'll see it. You guys should really give some attention to Gary Moore's work. The way his guitar screams and cry is very unique. I recommend starting with "Still got the Blues". It is really amazing.

This is my favorite band from that era n Slash is my favorite guitar player. The concerts in the 80's werent concerts...they were parties! You guys gotta check out Tesla...What You Give, Edisons Medicine, Love Song....excellent band!

Slash is a vg guitar player, but Izzy stradlin is always overlooked.. what they are playing is simple blues pentatonic. just very well played with great energy and sound.

Don't forget Duff the bass player too - he co-wrote a lot of these songs and was just an amazing bass player.

I first heard this song in a Clint Eastwood movie (forgot the title) and I was like "what a freakin' dope song that one was". There was no internet back then so I had to borrow a vhs tape of that movie after just to see who the artist was in the credits and immediately bought the album.

Slash is amazing! He is definitely one of the best! And still plays with the same level of energy. He’s never stopped touring or making music. Listen to anything from the Show at the Ritz ‘88. Also you have to listen to Paradise City the official version. Keep in mind that in all this earlier stuff, slash is playing so fucking amazing and was strung all the way out on heroine, and didn’t get sober till much later. What’s crazy is he played with a level of perfection even while he was high. 🤯🤯

Appetite For Destruction was my first ever CD at 12. When my mom came home from work and heard Welcome To The Jungle, she said it was a nightmare. She went, fuck no. I'm getting him his own stereo so that he doesn't have to blast this shit in the living room and drive me crazy hahahaha.

I grew up on Slash. I've played guitar for over 30 years. Slash is a huge influence and one of my top 5. There is so much more for you to explore in the G'n'R realm, they have dozens of great songs, very few bad ones. Keep digging.
