    Hi Gunny. Your videos have helped me a lot and I use and love your products. Question so I see you have a fixed angle sharpening system like the TSprof which the nano cloth strops can be mounted in but you prefer freehand stropping. Is there a downside to stropping using it mounted on a fixed angle system?

  • @GunnysSharptalk

    @GunnysSharptalk

    Thank you. My apologies for the delayed answer. The major drawback in stropping using a fix angle for me is feel. I have been freehand sharpening and stropping my whole life. With sharpening using stones on a guided system I get visual information as it’s happening that I don’t get freehand on stones. Freehand on stones I get a feel that I can’t get using a guided system. With stropping I get more information by feel then I gain with any visual information. I can feel where the apex is. I can feel what it needs. Like more pressure on part of the bevel than the rest. More strokes on one side than the other. So I personally get better results stropping freehand. It took me some getting used to using guided systems and I just never have gotten as good of results using a guided system as I do freehand stropping. Sharpening is different.

    My gunny juice is out for delivery! Can't wait. Unfortunately I ordered a bunch of the hand America stuff before I found your product. But it should be fun to do some comparisons. Doesn't hand America claim to do the same process as you with the deionized water and stuff and heavy concentrations? I'm just trying to figure it all out brother, I'm just now getting to that point where I'm doing more good than harm lol! Have a great Christmas brother, and thank you for all your efforts!

    The deionization process that we do along with our careful PH balance of the carrier is proprietary to us ensures the diamonds remain deionized. It also gives a more even distribution. There may be other companies that use deionized diamonds, but they don’t use our process and can’t use our carrier. The machinery we used was built specifically for our processes. And if I am not mistaken Hand America is mono crystalline diamonds vs polycrystalline diamonds. I have used Hand America and have nothing negative to say about their product or any other product on the market. I don’t compare this product to other products because it’s not the same and because I do test other products and will continue give honest evaluations of products. So I feel for me to compare products would be unethical. Now that being said I welcome any comparison testing that others would like to do. And thanks man! Merry Christmas!!

    03/24/24 Thank you for making these videos. Im just getting started in the "sharpening world" & have learned a lot from you. I have a question about stropping on wood with the 3 micron tape. You mentioned using Bass with 3 micron & Ash with 1 micron. What about the other Gunny Juice such as 9, 6 & so on? Is there a science to the micron & type of wood strop or just personal preference? Thank you in advance...

I use the wood both with and without the tape. 3 works well on any stropping material. 6, 9 and 12 micron works great on leather

I noticed from your videos as well as others that use Gunny Juice, the strop is always on a table & the blade being stropped on top. But, one video i seen, forgot who, used the Gunny Juice on a strop attached to a blank & stropped in a TSPROF Kadet Pro. They were stropping in the same way you would sharpen a blade. Is this way recommended at all? I have yet to see you stropp this way. Also, since the strop is facing down towards a blade locked in a sharpening device, would you lose product/ diamonds while stropping? Thank you again for your videos....

  • @GunnysSharptalk

    @GunnysSharptalk

    3 ай бұрын

    You shouldn’t lose product. There’s nothing wrong with stropping with a TSPROF. I am a freehand sharpener by nature. I started with stone in hand sharpening. So I have a better feel for stripping holding the strop. I can feel when more or less pressure is needed. Sometimes one side needs more work than the other. I can feel that. So for me I get better edges if I hand strop.

    Can you use gunny juice and KME cbn emulsion in a sequence or are they just completely different? And if you can is it okay to use the same strop for like the same micron of the two? I’m just curious, I haven’t done of course but I thought I would ask.

  • @GunnysSharptalk

    @GunnysSharptalk

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can use them in sequence. I wouldn’t suggest using them on the same strop. And even using them in sequence the Gunny Juice has tighter particle size specs. So you want the GJ to be the lower micron size of the two. But due to the tight particle size specs and the deionization process used to make it, you should start it on a fresh strop to get the full effects.

    It depends on what you want and skill level. Some people struggle not over refining their apex when they mirror everything. Some steels take more skill or more time to mirror than others. A mirror isn’t necessary on every blade. I mirror most of mine or at least slightly mirror them as a side effect of sharpening them to a very fine apex. Sharper will cut longer because the apex is thinner. You can refine the microscopic teeth/serrations off the apex and cause the knife to lose cutting performance if you aren’t careful

    Are you using the same Jade 4 micron cloth nano cloth straps for every different Gunny Juice you are using or are you going down in Jade micro cloths (ie 0.5, o.25) as you are using different Gunny Juices?

  • @GunnysSharptalk

    @GunnysSharptalk

    Жыл бұрын

    With Jende’s nanocloth it doesn’t matter what the micron size says on the strop. The cloth is like a honeycomb material with tubes that are 30-50 micron in size. So the cloth itself is the same on all of the strops. They just premark them with a micron size to help you not mix them up, but you can take a 3 micron compound and put it on a 0.25 micron Jende Strop. Just write what micron size you used.

    I have heard positive things about your stuff. I am a retired journeyman machinist so that is the basis of my experience with sharpening and finishing. Please do not take my comments as criticism. You come across as an energetic guy that believes in his product; with good reason. But you have got do a much better job on your videos demonstrating its value. The screen angle was awful and distracting throughout. Too much happened out of the view of your potential customers and the audience who will influence others. It’s all about networking you know. The camera looking over your shoulder showed you stropping and then you looking at the progress. Very little else. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I also sincerely hope that you succeed in your venture. Don’t give up on all your hard work! Have someone help you set up the stage and watch your recording on some kind of monitor. Have someone who cares enough to be honestly objective and tell you the truth about it looks as you go. And if it is something you can’t be proud of, start over. That sounds harsh but it really is better than a video that makes you look bad. To wrap it up, I am 80 years old; I have seen a lot. I’m still working in my shop. I want to use your product. So hang in there! Don’t make the same mistakes that so many people cranking out lousy videos do. Most of them are pitiful. Spend more time time, effort and money on your videos. Right now this the one opportunity to directly talk to the ones that will buy from you (or someone else). All this is just the opinion of an old man who wishes you the very best.
