I touch up Maxamet on an 800 grit King Neo that uses SiC abrasive. SiC (2600 vickers) is slightly softer than VC (2800 vickers) but substantially harder than the steel matrix even in 67-69HRc Maxamet allowing it to shape the steel fairly easily. I demonstrate the 4 steps of sharpening using just one stone and a strop.
The Nanohone 1K is an alumina(1800 vickers) based splash and go stone. The higher grit and low abrasive hardness make it feel like sharpening on a piece of glass because it has a difficult tile biting into Maxamet.
