    Here’s the thing about UTA: you can go see them play in front of 50 people or 1,000 people and you will get the same level of energy, musicianship, and appreciation for your presence as a fan. They’re one of the most talented bands out there. And they really do seem to always want to play the best show they can...which is always an amazing show.

    I feel like the old gods of metal are starting to give life to a new generation of new gods of metal. M Shadows is phenomenal, Brittany Slayes is insane, Tati from Jinjer is amazing, Alyssa Gluz-White is spectacular, and they all sound different and have different(ish) sounds. I mean how many bands has Rob Halford recently(ish) teamed up with? Five Finger Death Punch (Lift Me Up), In This Moment (Black Wedding), even Unleash the Archers (Time Stands Still, although he didn't actually sing, he did make an appearance in the video).

    They are very heavily influenced by Queensryche and Iron Maiden. I recently asked Brittney Slayes & Todd La Torre (current lead singer of Queensryche- sounds like Geoff Tate, with even stronger vocals than Geoff can do these days). They both said that Geoff Tate & Bruce Dickinson were both major influences on their vocals, their song writing, and their stage performance. Check out the album this song came off of, "Apex"- amazing album!! The dual guitar solos is very reminiscent of Queensryche for sure! You should hear Brittney's cover of Queensryche's "Queen of the Reich'- SICK!!!

    The vocalist sort of reminds me of a female Bruce Dickinson, and, that is 100% meant as a BIG compliment. See, I LOVE Maiden, but, I don't usually care for power/epic metal. It's a little too... pretentious for my taste.

    9 times out of 10 it's usually the chorus on power/epic metal songs that ruins the song for me, especially if it starts out with solid riffs. It's like a chorus can completely derail a potentially great song. I wasn't feeling the chorus on this song at first, but as it progressed certain elements of it became kind of catchy to me in a way, and I started to genuinely appreciate it.

    Apparently the scene in Canada is very death/black orientated and there’s not a ton of power metal. Pretty much all of the band members got their chops playing in technical death bands, and it shows.

    I think your criticism of the direction of the video is harsh. Music videos are supposed to be entertaining, they're not technical manuals. Most people don't play any instrument. The visuals are supposed to be in-tune with the pace of the music and keep you watching, and they've achieved that. I think you're looking at things and thinking they're "unnecessary" because you're not considering the art form of filming and direction, you're just considering the technical musicianship, which is kind of understandable if you're a real geek in that regard but isn't relevant to 90% of the people watching it. Still, cool reaction, I just think you should open your mind a little to presentation of the art form.

  • @TheMoralMisanthrope

    @TheMoralMisanthrope

    5 жыл бұрын

    Whereas I do appreciate good criticism, I think your criticism of my criticism may have been a bit harsh. This isn't just a "music video", it's a full band playthrough as stated in the title, implying that it IS in fact supposed to have much more of a technical aspect. That's what playthrough videos are. I thought the video overall was very well done for what it was supposed to be, but as a musician watching a playthrough video, there were a couple of angles that I personally feel were a little out of place with the congruency of the video, thus making them seem unnecessary, or a bit out of place for me. In all actuality, it was really just one particular shot that I felt that way about, and it was only because of the angle and positioning of the left frame. The only other shot that seemed strange was one particular moment with the bass, but it wasn't bad, it was just kind of funny, in a good way. I always consider the art of filming and direction, which is evident in most of my videos, as I often make comments about what I appreciate about camera work and the subtle things in certain shots that most people would miss. That is solely attributed to the art of direction. As someone who has been in touring bands and music videos, that is the perspective from which I provide my reactions/analysis of overall presentation, which the majority of my subscribers understand, and is why they watch my videos. I hope this didn't come off as being too defensive, but your comment just came across as seeing me as someone that doesn't understand or know how to appreciate film/video direction. Not to date myself by saying this, but I remember when MTV first became a thing, and I watched it AVIDLY rather than cartoons. I started playing guitar only a couple years after MTV's initial launch. Basically I'm saying that both the musical AND visual elements have always been important to me. I figured with this long diatribe I can hopefully offer some clarity and insight as to who I am and the perspective and mind-set I approach videos with when reacting/analyzing. I hope you'll consider watching more of my reactions and continue to interract. We generally like to have fun and get weird on this channel, and there's a great community in the comment sections.

Path - So sang a blizzard In the muddy waters, where the reeds whispering about death in echo to the wind The sorrowful willow leaf tends the branches deep into the blackened depths Everything is frozen in this incessant whirlwind The season of cold weather begins and blizzard rush after it Snow falls on the cold beach All living in the shackles of sleep The century of deep rivers Ended here under the ice In the morning, frost decorates dead grass with a refined pattern As a brown bedspread they will rot until spring Songbirds fly away to South from the frozen oak forest forever Leaving nests in captivity of silence Among the mighty roots bones are whitening In the remnants of the flesh are visible marks of canines There is no rage nor anger in deadly dance of winter Quiet sleep in captivity of the alluring veil of cold shackles In the midst of frozen fields, I hear a sound The mournful hymn of great losses and long separations Forget how April sun warms in spring Cool down in the middle of the snow and ice so sang a blizzard Sing the song of the gray-haired hills embraced by snowstorm Light the way with cold northern stars Glorify death, let bony old woman lull all living things among the birches So sang a blizzard ...

    Well, since you were "not impressed with these 2", I guess I should ask a couple of things and address a couple of things. First, did you watch the video in it's entirety? Second, are you by chance also a musician? See, for both she and I, we have never been fans of power metal, although this song did have many great moments and I have grown an appreciation for them. That being said, I'm not going to hold back or disingenuously change my opinion on a genre or artist just to appease people who like it/them. Now being the fact that this was not only a music VIDEO rather than an official audio, and it was a PLAYTHROUGH video at that, and she and I are both musicians, camera action actually plays an incredibly significant role, thus it's going to get discussed, as it does in almost every video I react to. Of course with it being a playthrough video it is going to be discussed even more because of the nature and purpose of playthrough videos. But yes, you are correct in the statement that the music was very good, and this coming from a musician who is generally "not impressed" with power metal. I hope you'll give some of our other reactions a chance.

They don't sound like Iron Maiden, but they sound like they were probably big fans of Iron Maiden, mainly with the vocal stylings. The vocal harmonies and the epicness of the chorus made me think of "Run To The Hills".
