Unleash the Archers are considered to be Power Metal. Power Metal is one of the more technical styles of metal. Please do more from this band. They are really tight and such a cool bunch of people. Britney Slayes, the vocalist is an angel with such a good voice. You'll love all of their songs. Cheers from South Africa

This is the first time in my several decade of listening to metal that I read "Power Metal is one of the more technical styles of metal." You know why it's the first time? Because it's not true. These guys here have a pretty high technical level yes, but the criteria that make a song fall in the "power metal" genre are not technical aspects of music playing or composing. Power metal CAN BE technical but by default power metal is not necessarily technical and on average is not. That's why this band is very refreshing in this genre. Usually Power metal is not close to the technical level of some other genres like Techdeath for example.

@@charred6683 Have to agree. Power Metal refers to the "heroic" story-telling style, it's almost entirely about the vocals and the lyrics, usually with longer drawn out notes and a kind of stadium rock style. Iron Maiden is probably the most renowned power metal band in the world and they're considered that mainly because of the vocal style and story-telling nature of the lyrics. The technical ability of this band does make them stand out, as musicians, but it's Britney and her style that really makes them power metal in my opinion.

@@ct5625 Yes, while that is (mostly) true, the difficulty in Power Metal is, that the execution needs to be pretty much flawless because of the many harmonies and impression of simplicity in songs. But this style also has a more pronounced use of solos which (more often than not) need to be intriguing to let the listerner not lose interest in the song and as we all now show skill in musicianship. Also since when is Maiden a Power Metal band? They influenced this stlye of music and yes, thats why many elements of power metal can be found in their music, but they are still one of the biggest influencers in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (which could be compromised to the precursor term of simply: heavy metal).

@@charred6683 Tech-Death is indeed very technical, but all that growling makes it indecipherable sometimes, thus if it comes to technicality I rather like progressive metal and neoclassical metal. Also power metal can be very technical too, it is actually the best when it is technical, like early Stratovarius for example.

I found it very interesting that you picked out the feel of a journey the song evokes. This song is the opening song of a concept album which tells the story of a journey. It’s about an immortal being who is “awakened” for his next journey and the album tells his story until he sleeps again in its closing song, my personal favorite, and the albums title track, called Apex. I cannot recommend this album enough, it’s my favorite album of the last 10 years, EASILY, it’s a perfect album, not a single miss on the whole thing, you haaaaaaave to check it out

The camera thing you picked up on with the bassist is called tracking. Basically the way they got the effect is to shoot in a higher resolution, and then crop in on the area you want to focus on, and then you move the footage around while keeping your focal point in the center of the frame. There are programs and plugins that can do this for you, or you can manually track the subject with key frames (super tedious, but not entirely difficult.) As for the song, this is one of my favorite songs, and the best example of power metal! Great stuff!

This amazing singer is the unbelievably talented Brittney Slayes. Here's how I describe her - if Ronnie James Dio (Sabbath/Rainbow), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Geoff Tate (Queensryche) and Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) produced a female offspring, it would be Brittney Slayes! My faves by them are: Time Stands Still - kzread.info/dash/bejne/np2D0qhqn6vOpZc.html Cleanse the Bloodlines - kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpqHro9viajeqs4.html General of the Dark Army - kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYqdksZwn9SqptY.html The Matriarch - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKdstLd_g5Sel5M.html AND!!!! So something amazing happened, the band Corelia finally released their 90+ minute album after waiting 5+ years since it was supposed to be released. I've been waiting 8 years for this, and aside from the drama that surrounds it, it sounds awesome still. The people on their subreddit have even remastered/mixed the album through AI since it was demo quality (which still sounds incredible). I would highly recommend the song Bastion or Spiraling. Honestly any of the songs work, no one could make something like them. It would mean a lot to me. There may not be single songs sources found on youtube yet, but I think someone uploaded the album itself. Hope you give it a shot.

I though I left this comment here for you, but I didn't, and now I'm a year late haha hope you see this. since you mentioned this song feels like a journey, you basically nailed it on the head.. Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017). This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the tracks progress, you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song. Their new album which came out in August, is a continuation of this story, and the immortal has awoken on a spaceship confused as hell wondering where tf his mountain is lol from the single Abyss. I won't go into the rest of the album lol

The genre is Power Metal, so called because it tends to be hard and fast like this but the lyrics tend to focus on fantasy elements (for example, Blind Guardian has multiple songs about The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time, and an entire album about the Silmarillion). Apex is a concept album, telling a single story about the protagonist, The Immortal, and the antagonist, The Matriarch. The Immortal cannot die or be defeated, but he was cursed at birth to sleep for a thousand years or more and perform a task for whoever awakens him. He finds that he was awoken by The Matriarch, and she tasks him with retrieving her four sons alive so that she can sacrifice them in a ritual to attain immortality. I won't spoil the story for you, but suffice it to say it is unfinished; a sequel album is releasing this year. It is done, recorded, etc, but it has been delayed because they didn't have anyone to print the materials due to COVID 19; Brittney now says it is slated for a late August release.

Saying this song is like a journey is kind of funny considering it is a journey. From the first song on this album to the last song on their Abyss album is a single story line with each song being a different chapter. Once someone fully understands that they can have a full appreciation of the art and mastery put into these songs.

I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the bass player's right-hand technique. It's the first comment I tend to get from most others. And everyone comments about the bass harmonic fill. That's just nuts.

If it sounds like Iron Maiden, it's because it is, lol. And I don't know about you, but I always have a big smile on my face when I listen to Brittney belt out those notes! It never fails to give me a boost when I have had a rough day. To hear MORE power metal, then Sabaton and Bismarck should be up next -- and it is right up your alley, since it looks like a movie, made in conjunction with the gaming company World of Warships.

I'm probably too late on this, but: Yes, absolutely listen to Apex. But as it's a concept album, don't just skip straight to it. I mean sure, it stands alone just fine; but when you hear it as intended - as the finale of the journey laid out through the entire album - it's something else entirely.

How did the camera follow the hand on the fretboard? If I had to guess, or if I was going to try and replicate it, I think you would do a high definition shot that captures the entire fret board then go in later and digitally attach a close up frame to the hand. In other words imagine taking a large video and, frame by frame, cropping out everything except the hand on the fretboard (although the software would do it without actually needing to go frame by frame). I'm no expert, so if somebody knows I'd love to find out how they did it, but that's how I would go about it with my limited experience in video filming and editing.

You had Tati, you had Britney #slays, now obviously you need a dose of Courtney LaPlante. Spiritbox - Rule of Nines or Spiritbox -Blessed Be (official videos). You won't regret. That's for sure. Maybe the hottest, most surprising 3 high quality bands in modern Metal today, with 3 extremely talented and charismatic vocalists/lyricists in front. All completely different, but all sooo good.
