The reason his voice is quiet is because it's the whisper of the Matriarch calling to the Immortal. The album tells a story, and this is the opening track. It keeps this level of awesome the entire way through.

@@Khorzho The story is unfinished. According to Brittney, they are working on a sequel album that was supposed to release in early 2020; I don't know if it got delayed due to all this COVID 19 business or what, but we should have a sequel album to continue the story later. Just to clarify what happened in the Apex album, the Immortal completed the task for the Martirarch by retrieving all of her sons and she successfully completed the ritual to attain immortality, then the Immortal returned to his mountain and went back to sleep. I expect that in the sequel album, someone (my personal hope is that it will be the child of the Matriarch's only "good" son - the one from Earth and Ashes) will awaken the Immortal and task him with stopping the Matriarch, then we'll get an Immortal showdown.

Since you loved this song I feel a responsibility to tell you that this is merely the OPENING song... of the greatest power metal album of the last 10 years, hell maybe the last 20, the album is called Apex and it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Its a concept album and beyond just telling a very cool fantasy story, there simply isn’t a single mediocre song on the entire album they range from very good to just freaking great. This song is fantastic but the album has even better ones to offer. For my money the best is the final song and title track of the album, “Apex”. It’s epic and beautiful and heavy and just a perfect song you should give it a listen

Where to start? Glad you checked this out. The entire album is incredible, and often a part of my workout sets. Speaking of workouts - the band that beats UtA out as workout music is: Sabaton. I’d recommend them if you’re in the mood to check out something epic - and Joachim, the lead singer, was literally a guest singer on a track about weightlifting. They also have several incredible and cinematic music videos. Insofar as best song to try... for cinematics, I’d recommend “Fields of Verdun”, “Bismarck”, and “Screaming Eagles” about the WW1 battle of Verdun, the hunt for and sinking of the German Battleship Bismarck (sponsored by World of Warships), and the 101st airborne stand at Bastogne at the Battle of the Bulge. For just sheer energy, I’d look at the videos for 82nd all the Way, Seven Pillars of Wisdom, Night Witches, or To Hell and Back. Despite the mediocre sound quality, the Woodstock (in Poland) live version of 40:1 is notable for it’s energy and sheer crowd size. They also have a “Sabaton History” channel on KZread dedicated to the background of each of their songs.

It's always the little things. You noticing Brittany's smile at the end sealed the deal for me. That little grin she gives is the icing on the cake for the entire performance. It's just a classic nod to the audience, inviting them in to how much the band are enjoying their own performance, how much fun they're having, how much they love making this music. It's a beautiful piece of investment to everyone participating, band members and audience both. Thanks for pointing out her nod to the viewers. Subscribed!

Alestorm - Drink (Alestorm is ALSO on Napalm, but they're Pirate metal, fronted by a genius nutball Scotsman, Christopher Bowes.) :) Gloryhammer - Hootsforce (Again, Napalm, but this band was founded by the aforementioned Christopher Bowes, who plays synths here.) A couple of fun, relatively lighthearted metal pieces that I'm fairly certain you'll enjoy. As an aside, if you're ever in the market for weird, look up "Christopher Bowes and His Plate of Beans" here on YT. :P Cheers!

Interesting that you mentioned Iron Maiden. Unleash the Archers fall under a metal genre called Power Metal, a genre Iron Maiden is credited with creating. You may enjoy Sabaton, particularly if you are interested in military history. I would recommend Bismarck from them to start off. Tonight We Ride is another good one for Unleash the Archers. You are doing really good reviews. Keep it up! One of the few reactionists I have decided to subscribe to.

Brittney Slayes isn't just a great vocalist, she's also a straight up sweetheart. I don't care if you react to it, but watch her videos with Napalm explaining the Apex album, and her interviews with other KZreadrs. And yeah, that smile still kills me after watching/listening to this song 100 times.

You want to have your mind blown a bit more about how amazing these folks are? Andrew, the red haired guitarist, has fantastic clean vocals. They use him on a couple of songs here and there. But it's rare, because he'd rather be shredding like a madman. Also, there is video of Brittney going out to a bar AFTER A SHOW and singing Queensryche songs karaoke. These people are the musical equivalent of superheroes. Also, super nice people, by all accounts.

I was lucky enough to catch Unleash the Archers with Dragonforce just a few days before everything got shut down due to Coronavirus. That was an amazing show and I totally developed a crush on Britney Slayes too. Her voice is even better live. Check out The Matriarch, Northwest Passage, and Apex if you want more.

Okay....so you have dipped your toe into the UTA world...you owe it yo yourself to keep going. I am very impressed that you mentioned Heart in your comparisons. I have always thought Brittney has favored Ann Wilson in many different aspects...none more than her opening vocals on the title track "Apex". She also cites Geoff Tate from Queensryche as one of her many influences and that is also very apparent in her soaring style of vocals. Their EP Northwest Passage is also brilliant and they are ready to release the second part to the Apex saga and day now....so much musical goodness for you to experience. Good luck and Godspeed!

Because I seriously love UTA and hope they get the hype they deserve: www.twitch.tv/brittneyslayesuta/ At the bottom is all of her social media which is pretty much the UTA social media. Also, she plays Link's Awakening sometimes.

Brittany is classically trained. She sang for a national choir in Canada. She sang wherever she was needed so her range is off the charts. Those backing tracks are her doubling herself and doing her own harmonies. I believe she is married to the drummer. They go thru bassists seems like daily. They don't have a bad song on any album.

This is a great song to react to! Power Metal can do that to you lol Another mandatory react is Nightwish. Usually people go with Ghost Love Score, and that is a great way to start it! But I think you'd appreciate Ghost River as well, for the duet going on there!

Hey, after Jinjer and Unleash the Archers there is NO way you can get around Spiritbox! Great canadian band that is pushing things forward in metal styles just as Jinjer. With another unbelievable twist, more on the art end of things. Horror themed "spooky-scary but also artsy-fartsy" most modern metalcore. You will enjoy it - I would bet on it. Try Spiritbox - Rule of Nines first. Blow your mind. Totally. (Not exaggerating ... similarly surprising as Jinjer, but with a different twist and taste. Absolutely fantastic music, great new kind of style.)

Since I first heard this song, about 2 years ago, UTA has become my favorite band. Apex, the album with Awakening as the opening track, is a perfect album. Since Apex, they've released an EP with 2 cover songs which are both amazing as well. And they were supposed to release the follow-up to Apex this year... Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but the bassist from this album is no longer with the band.

Like your reaction man. Reacting to the music, individual band members and the visual ... nice job. If you think that the drummer should go to the olympic, take a look at ''bleed'' by Meshuggah (with Tomas Haake Point of view - who is the drummer). Personally, this guy created the leg day.

Brittney Hayes' vocals reminds me a bit of Steve Grimmett of Grim Reaper in this song. Excellent. As a bass player, I'm really intrigued by this bassist's right hand technique.
