    And Sharon has the gall to pat herself on the back and say "We never gave away the publishing - that was very important, we held the publishing rights and it all worked out". Ozzy can't read, write or play a note of music. Yet he is listed as songwriter on every song. Geezer wrote the lyrics in Sabbath and Tony wrote the music. Randy, Jake et. al wrote the music on the Ozzy albums and Bob Daisley wrote the lyrics. Ozzy is a great frontman but he gets WAY too much credit (and money) for his paltry contributions while true artists get screwed over time and time again. It disgusts me.

    Jake is absolutely amazing. Wrote all the material for Ozzy while he was in the band. Ozzy is just a lucky drunk.

  • @Gregbaltzer

    @Gregbaltzer

    4 жыл бұрын

    Jake did not write all the material, Bob Daisley wrote a huge chunk of it. The reason Sharon wanted Bob back in the band is because he could write, where as his replacements couldn't. Bob wrote a fair chunk with Randy on the first two albums and he wrote a lot with Jake on those albums. While Bob was in Uriah Heep Sharon kept pressuring him to come back to the band to help write the third album. Bob got fired after Diary of a Madman for sticking up for their Drummer Lee when Sharon and Ozzy wanted to replace him with Tommy, and then Tommy gets fired because he's good live, but can't cut it in the studio. Ozzy and Sharon paid Bob and Jake a lump sum and a promise of royalties on all album sales to give up all song writing credits to Ozzy. It's part of the reason they recorded the drum and bass parts for those albums years later, so they could stop paying Bob royalties on sales. Bob said he enjoyed being in Uriah Heep a lot but it wasn't paying the bills as much as Ozzy could, so he went back to Ozzy. He co-wrote the Ultimate Sin with Jake, but he didn't play on the album.

    **I think it's time that we, as Ozzy's fans, STOP blaming everything on Sharon, and pretending that Ozzy was innocent in it all. Sharon IS a greedy, immoral narcissist, but it isn't all her fault. I don't care how wasted he was from time to time, there are video interviews of Ozzy during the early to mid 80s, where he was more clear headed and articulate than he is now, despite the fact that he is now supposedly clean and sober.** So I'm no longer buying into the notion that he was essentially a walking zombie in the 80s, who could only sing on stage, but was otherwise completely incapable of, and uninvolved in his own band's decision making process! Ozzy was just as guilty as Sharon for screwing over MOST of his band mates in the early to mid 80s. The 2 of them had more money than God by 1984, so there was no excuse for NOT paying George Lynch a penny for traveling with them as a potential replacement guitarist, then firing him. There was no excuse for stealing writing credits and royalties from Lee Kerslake, Bob Daisley and Jake!

    I pass the following story along as it was told to me by the person who actually experienced it. Back in the late 90's I worked at a large manufacturing plant. One of the line supervisors I worked with had auditioned to be Ozzy's bass player for three months because his permanent bass player had broken his arm. He ended up getting the job and was told you have an 8 foot box on stage that you cannot step out of or you will be fired. he was also told not to do anything to attract attention to yourself, this is Ozzys show. One of the first gigs was to fly over to, I believe England to do a anti-drug concert. This is the concert that is spoken of in Motley Crues behind the music documentary. He told me he was one of only three people on that plane who wasn't doing any drugs and that includes the pilots. Eventually he got to his hotel room and when he opened up his guitar case someone had packed it full of cocaine packets. He was extremely upset and went to Sharon Osbourne and asked her to find out who did it. According to him she was very professional about it and did her best to find the culprit but no one would talk. The main thing I remember about our conversation was that he seemed to be using every ounce restraint within in him to not say a bad word about Ozzy.

The deal is after Ozzy head-butted him they needed to get him back on side so he didn't get into Legal proceedings - they told him he was still in the band, got him to sign a non disclosure etc and then payed for his surgery. Still kept him thinking he was in the band until the gig when Sharon fired him .... nice people eh? Read between the lines ... chances are Sharon had something going with the Bass player and the Bass Player likely rejected her ... she goes and tells Ozzy something like the Bass Player tried to come onto her and the rest is as you see. The band arrives, and my buds greet them. Blackmore: "Are you guys staying at this hotel?" Buds: "Yeah! We're right down the hall! Blackmore: ".......................................If you're staying here.....................I'm leaving...................." And he walks away. He wound-up staying, but was a total douche the entire time. They said the rest of the band wasn't happy with him either......openly stating their displeasure. Jimmy Bain seemed exhausted.....worn down..... They recall Tony Carey, in his room, playing music real loud and banging on the wall. "MISTER BLACKMORE DOESN'T LIKE IT WHEN I PLAY MY MUSIC LOUD!!!!" It always strikes me how simple American English is. “I was like” for everything. One can also use: I said, I thought, I believed, …. But of course, a country that uses aluminum, bigly, that doesn’t know how to use good and well correctly. And o yes, Jakey is a killer guitar slinger. Big fan.

    That kind of violence was just about normal for English working class back in those days. I grew up in London and then the Midlands in the early 80s and it was very rough, but where Sabbath are from in Aston was even rougher. It was more of a crime not to snot somebody that crossed you. Nobody says anything to police etc. Once it is over it's over and everybody moves on. People would often be best mates once they had come to blows. Kind of weird really, but that is how it was.

    No. Ozzy fucked up in a drunken/drugged stupor. They fired him that way to avoid the criminal charges, make the guy think he's still in a famous rock band, get him to sign the agreement not to press charges, fix his nose then get rid of him at the last minute. Criminal charges and trial dates would have hampered touring schedules big time, and fuck up the Ozzy brand.

    Hey didn't Ozzy cheat on Sharon,well she got what she deserved didn't she now!!! I was in Las Vegas for that audition Zakk got fired over,and I thought they were nice people, but they turned out to be quite the opposite, I was a huge Ozzy fan from Blizzard all the way up to Black Reign,I wrote my own songs and sung too,but I'm glad they passed on me,cause I would have lost all my songs from them,plus my publishing rights.i would left with nothing

    I love Ozzy as a vocalist and the songs he has given us, but I wish I didn't know all this other stuff about him. He has been an absolute dick to people for apparently no reason. I'll always love his music but I see him in a different way now.

    That's just it though. It never was "his music". His band members wrote it all for him . Bob Daisly and Randy wrote his first two blockbuster albums that made him a huge solo star.

    In Bob Daisley's book on page 177 he mentions that the band rehearsed on Friday May 27 from 5pm to 3am. Then rehearsing all day and into the night on Saturday, May 28. Then playing the US Festival on Sunday May 29. Something doesn't add up with Jake's version of what happened. Bob also mentions that Ozzy punched Don Costa in the face and fired him.

    I sometimes think Ozzie was just a big Wa$$ker but thn i listen to his songs and think he wrote a good melody line on all his songs. Not a great singer but could move a vocal line through a verse and chorus nand then the most important thing that made him great it was memorable and very melodic. Ozzy was lucky he was in Black Sabbath that was his baptism into fame really. There are thousands of better singers who are unemployed

    When all the lyrics rhyme and have a relatively uncomplicated flow, and the music is already written (as was the case), the melody is pretty much implied by those structures. "His" melodies were simple and unimaginative. Aside from Nikki Sixx, Ozzy is one of metal's biggest posers/frauds.

    Wow, before this I was thinking that Ozzy and Sharon were an exceptional team. Reason; after he left Sabbath, we all know great singers who left great bands to start their own thing and it never took off. Ozzy has been really big since he went on his own. Sharon must be a real gut buster of a manager. Protecting Ozzy at any cost and she did it. I loved Randy's guitar playing, I love Jake E.s playing, I love Zakk's playing and I love George Lynch too! Nothing wrong with him. Listen to his tone, style, vibrato. George is a big deal. Great with Dokken. I guess it just shows that not everyone fits every musical situation.
