I was going to choose "Gravity" at first as it's my all time favorite Mayer sing and resonates with me on a personal level for reasons other than what John wrote it for I'm sure, the reason I chose this one is because I just love the intro to this song and how Keith just let's John go crazy on his song..... Actually I disagree that Keith is less technically sound. I think the whole less is more thing is something that is learned much further along than being able to shred and is just proof that he has great feel
If any Crossroads episode should have been released as a live album it’s this one. Every song was great, and this was a favorite. Thank you for talking us through it. I’m not trying to learn guitar but I watch all your videos anyway for the education and enthusiasm!
Yeah , “sweet thing” is fire from this too! Never took till urban until I saw this special
I've been enamored for years by this song. I don't normally listen to "country", but Keith Urban, like John Mayer, is an incredible songwriter. To be honest, this is the only song I know by Keith. The subtleties speak volumes. So glad you put the spotlight on this gem. As a guitarist, there's a lot to be learned here.

If you like this then I would check out Keiths album "Love, Pain and the whole crazy thing". Basically every song is amazing. Especially Stupid Boy and Everybody.
Just two of the modern day greats enjoying a bit of jamming together. And yeah, that multi-bend section in the solo is incredible. So much expression that almost gives a lap-steel feel that wouldn’t be possible just fingering the notes.
These two always have best chemistry, and it seems like they love playing together.
You're the perfect mix of education and passion. You explain everything so well for a wide audience. Cheers Palmi!

I remember watching this when it came out and was obsessed. These 2 artists shaped who I became as a guitar player for 3 years after I broke out of my metal phase. My sister and brother in law managed to find a torrent of the crossroads performance and gave it to me on a dvd for my birthday. The menu was titled “Daniel’s dreamboats” lmfao. It was probably the best birthday present I ever got. The chemistry between these 2 on stage is unmatched!

Never heard this in my life but man is this a great sounding tune. The bass and drums, tone of the guitars, and the harmonies were just S Tier.
I think that Keith has always been a super strong song writer. It kinda got under my skin when Bo Burnham called him out for being inauthentic formulaic bro country. I would love to see Keith live.

John Mayer and Keith have another great performance which is great!
Love these two guys together. Mayer is my guy but I found Keith Urban through him. A very underrated guitarist. I'd love him to do a full on blues album and take it on a joint tour with Mayer... Might make Mayer shake it up a little and get back to his best.

It'd be cool to see the two of them revive some Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Two of my favorite artists TOGETHER. MAGIC! I watch this Crossroads concert over and over. This collaboration SHOULD have produced an album and a tour!! These two extremely talented artists compliment each other so darn well!!! They can do each other's songs as if it's their own. One of the best collaborations I have ever heard!!!! This song is also one of my favorites because of Keith's sexy, slinky, melodic guitar playing. John adds such beautiful touches to it. Both of these guys also offer such complimentary stage presence as well. Easy on the ear and eye. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!!!
Never been a big John Mayer fan, but Keith Urban and Mayer are definitely BOTH incredible guitar players.
John and Keith were so good together... it really should of become a permanent thing. Or at least more frequently.
My favorite Keith Urban song and Mayer takes it up a notch
I have been WAITING for someone to request this for so long. It honestly feels like Christmas
This entire show between the two was just incredible. And notable mention is the solid drumming and stellar drum sounds by Chris McHugh.
that whole concert was amazing!
This is the most “Keith urban playing a John Mayer lick that Keith urban actually wrote first but also John Mayer wrote later” thing I’ve ever heard.
I have been waiting for this video for so long…
Whoever was lucky enough to be at that taping will never forget it.
The man’s passion for guitar (and music in general) is infectious. I’m here for it.
If you look closely, you can peep Uncle Larry playing in the back. He’s behind John and to the left.
This is my absolute favorite CMT Crossroads show. The hit the nail on the head putting these two together.
Michael, please react to Gravity from the Meyer/Urban Crossroads if you want to see and here (in your words) some hot shit!! Some of the most soul drenching tones, runs, solo's and phrasing I've ever heard. This Urban/Mayer Crossroads is just a clinic on how to play while also allowing the song to breathe with some space and beautiful phrasing. This is one of the best collaborations I've ever seen and I would LOVE if you would check Gravity out by these two amazing players. I love your channel and although I don't always comment, I always punch that thumbs up so KZread keeps your channel on the top of my feed. Keep punching and grinding, your content is amazing as ever!

I was going to choose "Gravity" at first as it's my all time favorite Mayer sing and resonates with me on a personal level for reasons other than what John wrote it for I'm sure, the reason I chose this one is because I just love the intro to this song and how Keith just let's John go crazy on his song..... This is definitely one of the best CMT CROSSROADS they did definitely the BEST when it came to guitar players with the Mayer Paisley one coming in at a very close second

Great call! Never heard this version before.
YES! This end solo from Mayer remains one of my favourites of all time - so perfectly judged and so much to learn from only a few bars - dynamics, technique, tone all amazing. Also you can see he’s *really* feeling it! Fantastic songwriting allows for it however, so major credit to Keith Urban too
The two guys work very well together, their mutual respect comes through, plus their respective styles compliment rather than compete, two 'Pros' who are successful for the right reasons. The song is basically romantic fiction, one of those paperback stories, but executed incredibly well.
This song is such a gift to Keith/Mayer fans. Their tones are just dripping with nostalgia/wistfulness and John's voice/solos are so perfect for this song. This and the album version of "Stupid Boy" are definitely my favorite Keith Urban songs.
Heard this years ago when it first aired and was in love immediately with the guitar tracks. The little run Mayer does is genius.
Soo glad you found this one it’s a rare Gem I think Mayor said he wished he wrote this one enjoy the concert It’s magical performance together loved seeing your delight and only adding to this amazing song gets me every time top 10 for sure
Lovely tune, fantastic playing and killer singing!! What more can you ask for?

Keith Urban's brief lead you start breaking down around the 7:18 mark is one of my favorite guitar moments in a live performance ever.
Most reaction/analysis videos are focused on theory and mechanical technique. It's so heartwarming to see Michael getting blown away by the choice of notes, feeling the groove, and deeply appreciating the musicians and their craft. Love it, thank you, Michael 🥰

I have been the biggest fans of this crossroads and this song since I saw it. So damn glad you’re doing this, became an urban fan after this crossroads episode. Mayer never disappoints and Kieth is a killer player too.

I love at around 7:00 you started playing your little lick. And now I’m going to learn it.
Probably one of my favorite performances of all time. So tasty.
Michael you're awesome!!!!!!! Thank you very much for doing this one for me I appreciate it and appreciate what you do!!!!! These videos are so awesome, please keep them coming!!!!
Mayer + Urban is always magic
I love this version of the song, harmonies are fantastic. I had never thought of different guitar parts “staying out of each other’s way” but that’s such a smart way of describing it! Love your videos thank you for posting, I learn a lot from you
Can't explain enough how much your enthusiasm makes me want to go practice! Crushed it as usual
Those little single note embellishments and walk down are what I love most about Keith Urban's playing.
One of the best collabs ever not just this song but the whole show. Thank you for breaking this down its a fascinating watch. I loved that look on your face when john let rip on that second solo. Please do more mayer breakdowns or keith. It really helps as a guitar player to understand the theory of the song. Great job man this is up there with the patrick droney video which is my favourite of yours 🤩
Had the pleasure of seeing KU in a private venue a few yrs ago in Chicago. Maybe 2500 ppl but he put on a show worthy of 50,000. The guy is a freaking rock star! He absolutely loves his fans and plays with the appreciation that that fans got him there and he pays it back by delivering a stellar show. I didn’t know his music, but i left a fan with mad respect.
Your videos always give me the itch to grab my guitar and play 😅 love these videos, thank you
Thank you for reviewing this. It’s been my number one example of a perfect guitar and vocal duet for at least a decade now. And yes…that multi-step bend is exquisite.
I am in awe of your ear for what is but I’m so much more flabbergasted that those artists CREATED that!!
I was waiting for this video! Greetings from Brazil, keep up with the good work
Fantastic explanation of two masters you see everything! Thank you
Listened to both play and sing on their own, but this is fantastic when they perform together!! Thanks Michael for the choosing this song for REACT.
Hahah !!! Such a favorite capture of this song !! Your insight was lovely .. thank you
Wow, great performance and as always, another great review! Call me weird, but I've never been a huge fan of either of these artists, but I still admire their skill and you helped point out more of their talents. Thanks, and cheers from Carroll County!
Tickets already bought for the KU show in Bristow. I see him every year he comes around. This was the song that made me a huge KU fan. John is my all time favorite player so this whole concert is the gold standard in guitar playing for me. Would love to meet you at the show! Thanks for all that you do!
As a non-player but music lover/listener, the music is incredible. Becomes even moreso when you realize just how technical the guitar is, and just how much effort it takes to look absolutely effortless. The level of playing is just absolutely top tier - and they look like they are just enjoying each other's talent and playing together - having fun. Awesome.
Amazing lessons Michael.. appreciate it🎸
Two absolute pros at work
Enjoying your authentic passion. Refreshing. No BS. Will be watching closely. And thank you!
I love this performance. I have goosebumps from all the tones. Thanks for the breakdown.
This was always one of the most inspiring performances I have seen...... I don't know the theory, but I love seeing a music teacher appreciation for the unique musicianship and slowing intentional playing along with the vibe of the song and lyrics. Thanks for doing this video..... I am inspired to play this song again!
Some of the best breakdowns on YT!! 💚🎸
THANK YOU!!!!!! I've been waiting and damn near praying for you to react to the Mayer/Urban Crossroads!
You need to watch to whole show. Just amazing.
Amazing indeed!!!!! Thanks.
Probably my favorite moment in this Crossroads. Had to learn the song after I saw it!
I am a pianist with very little formal training. You r making me feel there is so much more versatility in playing a guitar. How much expression is available in a guitar? Two of the best, John and Keith. Incredible! Thank you so much for your insight. You give me a new appreciation for my favorite songs! Again...thank you for the analysis! Goosebumps are sure to follow...
Thank you Michael the music was excellent, and your feedback and review was just bar none could be better
I've watched this performance so many times and so glad you reviewed it! I knew there was something about it that gave it a "floaty" sound and now I know..."B! B! B!" Thank you!
Great video and break down - I especially like when you talk about the bending of the notes. Thanks :)
Freaking love your channel, man. John Mayer is my absolute hero, love Keith urban to pieces. But my favorite part of this whole video was around 7min when you were playing along and throwing those subtle lead licks in with them. Beaut!
If ever I was gonna spend my hard earned $ for lessons it be on this channel. This man loves teaching as much as he loves oxygen.. that bend at 9:25 was like he had a b bender
The end to Sweet Thing is the one from these performances…nothing short of amazing
Two outstanding musicians, laying it out there.
That whole damn episode was epic.
Very well explained and demonstrated. You're a great teacher!
Love these guys together! Love this Keith Urban song!
one of my favorites performances
This has been one of my favorite performances by anyone anywhere since I saw it for the first time, major synergy here!
Not the reaction we deserved but the reaction we needed.
you found this song for me....its a gift!!! so GOOD
When I watched the original airing of this performance (years ago) on CMT, the solo legit blew my mind. So so so good.
respect for finding this, man!!!
If you noticed, Buk is playing that night with them🤘🏻 The talent on that stage.
The original recorded version by Keith has some of the prettiest clean guitar tones of all time, imho. And the subtle walking moves he does between chords is brilliant as well. Keith is awesome, song is awesome. One of the reasons we love music so much.
Damn that song was good. Not into Country but that was impressive. They killed it on this song. Well written, well played and the tone....wow. I just watched the video where Keith teaches Mayer on how to play the open riff. Mayer actually stumbled around with it at first.
