I'm just not a huge strat guy and can't bring myself to pay that much for one when the guts are fairly simplistic. We're in the golden age of inexpensive solid guitars.

Almost wanna say a little something gets lost though hearing it live with cheers in the background instead of no one caring. Kinda added to the downer feel of the song.

I've been a big fan of Trucks since he was playing the the ABB. He is in an entirely different world. Anytime I call Mayer the best guitarist going, I always bite my tongue because Derek is right there. It's really 1a and 1b. While I enjoy John's full body or work more, Trucks, I think, takes the win. He plays perfectly on slide and picking. Which means he operates in multiple tunings as well. His technique is incredible, and his tone is unbelievable - just overpowering his amp's speakers. I would love to see them collaborate. All I know of is a BB King tribute in which they shared the stage. Mayer was right next to trucks on stage, and while Trucks was playing Mayer just hung his head in disgust and defeat.

Not only a great explanation of the guitar but an awesome explanation of what really made this performance great. The drummer and bassist did about 70% of the work on this song, without a doubt. Not dissing John by any means but the rhythm section gave him so much room to do his thing. Says a lot about how interesting staying in the pocket can sound. Subbed. Great video dude!

The theory breakdown on this was awesome--and needed for such an insane transposed cover. Loved how you're just as fired up as many of us about this song

Love your passionate reaction.. the same as mine when I heard this the first time. But your explanations are great! You made me listen stuff I did not notice before. John is THE man of this generation, no doubt... He has the best taste, and he is humble enough to play with the best.. even if he knows that you will be listen the whole freakin' band and not just him. His version is.. MIND BLOWING!

Dave Grohl once said the magic of live music is when you go and see a human just like you doing something INCREDIBLE and you’re just amazed at what they can do. Mayer makes me feel that way every time. He’s one of those freaks of nature im thankful to get to live on the same earth as

Great video! This is a great illustration of what a difference volume makes with those little fall offs and trills. The sound you have to fight to get at low volume is one you have to actually control and limit when you're loud. All about that dynamic range.

Hey Michael, I don't know if you remember me. I was a guitargate member for several years. Wanted to tell you how much I have appreciated you over the years. Now that I've grown in my musical journey I especially appreciate these analysis videos as it opens up some of the concepts behind what others are doing for me. Of all the analysis videos I've watched you've done this is your best by far. Thanks, Bryan

i played guitar for the first time 10 years ago when i was 10, and since then, the only thing i knew were open chords and barre chords, up untill the last 2 years, since i started listening to john mayer, which lead to me going back and listening to hendrix, SRV, eric clapton, bb king and ever other musician that ive missed out on, he is the reason im starting to learn guitar on a serious level, other than just knowing how to play campfire guitar which i hated doing
