@@RickDanner You must be a low IQ weak minded sheep. Page is different from Clapton and Beck, because Page created a "body of work" that destroys both Clapton and Beck. My point is that before Led zeppelin, Page was already a very well known studio sessions master. What he created with led zeppelin, was TIMELESS. THEN, he never stopped. Check out the page/plant live shows in the 90's. Worldwide touring. Absolutely stunning. Jimmy page takes a backseat to no one.

Very enjoyable. And I'm envious of your grasp of chord theory and ability to discern what is happening from the hands of the players you hear. Too many players overlook the nuances, so it's nice to see you digging into them. Imogen Heap is a sensational one-woman band (banks of keys and technology). Jeff makes a short appearance commencing around 2:35 in the Imogen link below. As for Tal's age, she was born December, 1986, so in the video here, shot November 2007, she was 21. And she had been playing bass for only a few years, having switched from guitar. She was recommended to Jeff by drummer Vinnie Colaiuta when Randy Hope-Taylor couldn't do a tour. Colaiuta had played alongside her with Herbie Hancock. Your mention at the end that someone had just subscribed from Sydney, Australia was coincidence, as that is where Tal is from. The keyboardist in the band is the most excellent Jason Rebello. As with Colaiuta, he came from Sting's band. His departure a few years later was due to a desire to spend more time at home in London, doing his own thing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqujs9t_YK7dkZs.html

I've been watching this Jeff Beck, Imogen Heap video for years and just loving it. It was wonderful to see you examine the parts to describe what's going on that makes it so great. I don't know much about music, but I could hear how sensitive and incredible Jeff Beck's playing is here, what a perfect support and compliment to her singing. He is just so tasteful and those unexpected growls and cries are sooooo satisfying. Imogen's so beautiful and her delivery is amazing. I love her hand movements. Tal's bass playing is like velvet. They're all just perfect. This song is a ballad for social anxiety disorder. Her blanket is her way to protect herself from the world. If you've never listened to Eric Bibb, I think his interpretation of Wayfaring Stranger, Live, with Staffan Astner adding the tasteful lead notes is a very solid listen. Eric writes lots of songs and I love most of them, but this one with Steffan Astner is special.

Teenage me never fully understood why my father always immediately chose Jeff Beck when we had those silly, but fun "best guitarist ever" debates. 28-year-old me still has so much more music to listen to, but I now can't fault anyone for choosing Jeff as their favorite player. His sound is unique, instantly-recognizable, and indelible. Great video, Michael. Really interesting to listen to you explain how Jeff complements the other fantastic musicians who share the stage with him. His guitar sings well enough all alone, but Imogen's performance here is wonderful.

Great react vid. So glad you highlighted the whole band (drummer, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jason Rebello keys). The reason why the m9 feel works is the space! The feel is allowed to swell and hold, giving Jeff's stabs power and punctuation. He never, ever, takes over Imogen's vocal, he serves it. The band do likewise. It's one of the best performances of any artist group ever.

I remember in, in my early 20s, experimenting with vibrato techniques like this, which I abandoned for years due to playing non-trem/vibrato guitars. I've recently built a new strat-like guitar with a trem bar and hope to rekindle my love for the whammy bar. Thanks for breaking down the harmony! This helps.

That video of the band/song was so beautiful. Her voice is angelic. Proof that you don't have to shred to impress. Michael, you ability to come in cold, dissect what is played, like it is a no brainer is just brilliant...you video so great! You are so talented, so brilliant and I learn so much from your reactions. You reaction videos make my day every time. You and your wife and so lucky and respectfully, she is beautiful and she is lucky to. Good on her for the marathon! I want to subscribe so bad, but I am in health care and I have to devote my skills and experience to help others right now, medically, both physically and emotionally and when the world, hopefully, is less nuts with Covid-19, I absolutely want to be a devoted subscriber so bad. My priorities have to be available to help others right now first, but after long, very stressful days, your videos keep me sane. I think you are brilliant and MORE IMPORTANTLY, you worked hard for your skills....ultra impression. I love your subscribers, their requests and some days, I feel down from burnout and your videos are just so good, that it is mental health for others, helping others to further their musical skills, you are to me, a great person, with great skills, I admire all of it, your subscribers are so lucky and I can't wait to be one so bad, but with C-19, my priority has to put the guitar down and make others well. I will subscribe and with you! Such a true joy, both your videos and reacts to just beautiful music. I an envious, rightfully, to subscribers and cannot wait to be one, hopefully, when this awful pandemic is either over, or is manageable. * I just wanted you to know, how impressive you are, your videos are, through hard work, your lessons, even during videos are, how envious I am of subscribers, but being in health, I want to, just can't, RIGHT NOW, but I WILL. I love the suggestions of subscribers. This is just all so great! Well done is a gross understatement. I understand, that if, I am such a fan, what am I waiting for to subscribe and it is health care needing me right now. It sucks for everyone, but I wish everyone the best, the videos are therapeutic for me and you should be in the millions of subscribers. Why you are not? I don't get it, but you deserve to be, you have earned it, are worth it and it will happen and should have already. You may read this. Maybe not. I hope you do, just to know how valuable your time and videos are! I know you got here with ridiculous devotion and hard work, but you are also brilliant! Be safe to all!

Man, I would love to be able to listen to something and be able to pick out the chords and licks that are being played like you are able to do. I've been playing for many years but I'm still sort of lost without having the tab or music right in front of me. That is a great skill or talent to have an ear that allows you to play what you hear. And yeah, Jeff Beck is awesome.

Really love your posts. You have a great ear. I don't care that they are not note-for-note transcriptions. Understanding the vibe/principles of what musicians are doing is far more important. I've learned a hell of a lot from you just by listening. Also found a lot of great new musicians. (Your appreciiation of your wife's acchievments was great too. Her dogged determination reminds me of someone I know.)

LOVED the inspirational story about your wife. THEN, you start playing along with the video. Great! You can figure it out, and so can guitar newbies when they reach a certain level of familiarity with what they hear, typically, with chords and progressions, etc., whatever. I.D.G.A.F.!!!!! I selected this for a day's playlist because, as you so succinctly put it, "Its Jeff Beck!!" Yep, so let the effing master play, retrace your steps, start the video again and add anything you like, your own "special touches" to the tune AFTER we've heard it as the audience did. Might be back, might not. If this pattern is a must for you, I'm likely gone. Good luck to you, Happy Holidays and all the best in the New Year to you and yours .

He has the bar bent up and fixed with that little spring you can insert into the hole, before you screw the bar in. He keeps his index finger on the bar to do this „not quite on the note“ thing. Often he is using the master volume with his middle or ring finger at the same time.

Michael just discovered your channel trying to learn this song Blanket. I first heard it the same way you did. I'm a huge Jeff Beck fan! Just spent $3K on his Fender Custom shop guitar. The guitar is awesome! Imogen Heap is famous for that song Hide and Seek which was featured on the SNL Digital Short "Letter to my Sister" It was great watching and listening to your process of figuring out the song. I learned a lot! Thanks for uploading!

Pound for pound Jeff Beck is still the most innovative and unique guitarist on the planet !! You have to have to a floating trem that can pull up 3 tones to replicate Jeff style,,he does something pretty clever, he fits heavier strings on the bass side which creates more tension and thereby create a greater range for the trem but he still has standard gauge on the treble side for ease of playing, hope I've made sense ,cheers.

That little descending thing at 21:40 where he makes the guitar almost weep (gently, for reals) is *TEXTBOOK* Beck. So clean, so beautiful, so emotional, without having to be loud or distorted. Small wonder Tal smiles in response. Jeff's brief solo on Stevie Wonder's "Lookin for Another Pure Love" (starting at 1:48 here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lY1myNxugqXNprQ.html ) is also absolute perfection, and as complete a solo as one can find in rock, ending with a little nod to Les Paul in the little chromatic flurry at the end. What's interesting about it is the way in which he uses *almost* bending to pitch and *finally* bending to pitch to great effect. Not many notes in there but my word, so much expressiveness. What you think may be keys - because it really does sound like a hard-struck Rhodes - may be a false harmonic on the 3rd or 4th fret. I was as surprised as anyone to find out one could do that, but there you go. Harmonics on the low strings and low frets do NOT sound sweet, almost have a ring-modulator timbre, which is perhaps why they can mimic a Rhodes.

I've studied Jeff becks style all my playing years since the late sixties. This is very easy for me or any seasoned blues guitar player to play this progression. Jeff just has Jeff's style and experience.. How hard it is or not means nothing really. Jeff was always a guitar players guitar player. He was a total innovator.
