@@tomloeper8933 he has said on more than one occasion that he is a rock drummer. He has also played rock all his life. Another thing is that he is a musician who competently plays anything and ... loves jazz. In addition, his great reference was Buddy Rich, so it is normal to see characteristics of jazz, but in rock.

He is first a drummer and a musician (forget about styles and labels). First you must learn to play the instrument (execution technique, reading, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, improvisation, ...) then the repertoire comes, which must include different styles and rhythms (jazz, blues, soul, funk, rock, Afro Latin Grooves, etc), to enrich you, have tools, and ultimately become a versatile musician capable of facing any musical context. Young people who like rock and metal and start playing the drums or any other instrument, do not worry about learning to play the instrument first or to be musicians (a very superior word), they only want to play rock songs and metal, they do not follow a logical progression.

Never mind max on the drums, if he did an audio book, I’d listen. Has a really resonant clear voice
such a great dad. definitely a factor to Jay's success.
This is so neat. What a great father… you can feel the bond. Every dad dreams of moments like this super cool man. rock on dudes!

I've always liked Max's drumming but his playing here was even more off of the chain. He's damned good. Jay is a killer rock drummer. My oldest son is wanting my kit setup so he can start playing. Father and son. This is an excellent video. Thank you, Guitar Center!
What a great video. It is so inspiring and beautiful to see a father and a son dividing the same passion and following the same carrear.
Too cool! They both seem so proud of one another. Such a great video!!🤘
Since Jay stood in for Max with the E-Stree band, I would love to see Max Weinberg stand-in for Jay in Slipknot 😂
Saw my first Bruce Springsteen show with Jay filling in on on drums for dad. I was blown away. Not only by Bruce obviously but I was mesmerized by Jays playing. Incredible experience all around.
This reminds me a ton of me and my dad. He taught me drums and played big band/jazz for 40+ years. I learned on that and then branched off into metal. Shout out to you, Dad. I love you.
You don't have to be a musician to enjoy this video. Seeing father and son, knowing their journeys and seeing their success is truly amazing. Max seems like an awesome Dad to let his son carve his own way and support him at every step. You can appreciate the fact he doesn't live in his fathers shadow and continues to excel. Any father wants more than anything than to see their boy become something greater than they ever dreamed. My son is still young but i want to be able to back him as he becomes the man he is meant to be. On the other hand, when it comes to music, my daughter is aspiring to be a, in her words, a "metal goddess". Tears of pride, my friends. Tears of pride.
Oh, dude. That first call and response between son and dad really set the tone for me. Max's refined musical feel and taste to Jay's musical technicality. Excellent contrast! I love this video!
What an amazing story. Mine was that my father played around me for a couple years at somepoint but would never let us touch his drums.... He hasn't drummed since then and I have grown into a man that continues to share and grow my passions with everyone around me.
I love how proud Max is of his son. It is super obvious. Loved this vid!

This is absolutely amazing. Wish it was longer. The history and genre gap is unbelievable. Music and rythm is in the blood, no doubt.
Watching them together gave me all the feels. This was so good.
You can just feel how much they love each other, and it's a really good feeling.
This is how sons show love to thr fathers. Lots of respect from son to father.❤️
I see two distinct generations, two distinct styles and respect between the two. Awesome
Came for the drumming. 6 minutes later, cried for the family bonding stories. A bit.
LOVE IT!! The classy intro sets the stage for the whole video. So amazing
I love to hear Max talk about how much better Jay is. I think fathers around the world strive for this wether its drums or Music or whatever. Well done.....
Love to see Max so proud of Jay's accomplishments, that's the love of a Father to his son. So much love oozing into the recording room. I have a 4-year-old son and he plays way beyond his years. I hope he's going to be a successful drummer than me. Like these Father & Son Combo of Weinberg's! You rock!
Love Max.. One of my all time favorite drummers.
Tear jerking stuff... love it. Absolutely love it.
Saw Jay filling in for Max on a live video and he did awesome. Watching Jay playing the drums on Badlands was incredible.
i love jay weinbergs style! just seen him last nite at dte! awesome show, couldnt keep my eyes off him while he was playin!
I saw Jay play with Slipknot, and met him at NAMM a few years back. He's a world class mensch, drummer, and ambassador for the instrument. Love him on, and off stage. Max has every reason to be a proud father!
This was cool, I like seeing things like this, cause music really can be a huge bonding experience for families. I just recently, ( well, the past few years ) got my family and I into playing and creating music together, and I wish I had done so from the moment my first was born. Seeing the look on my kids faces when we get a "song" that comes out of nowhere, while we're just messing around and jamming, is absolutely priceless.
This is one of my very favorite video's, I cant count how many times I've watched it either, watching them talk about eachother is amazing and fun!!! I'm a fan of them both, being 56yrs old I love Max's work as well as Jay's, I am after all a maggot too!!! I also think I even share this video everytime I watch it too!!! Not sorry, more like ur welcome!!! 🤭🥁🥁🤟🤟🖤🖤🤘🤘

Something so cool and beautidul in this thing! thumbs up!!
Imagine how proud he must be of jay. To have a kid that betters you in your career is a dream
I think as parents we always want to see our children do well in whatever path they take. If it’s the same path, we want to see them do better than us that way we can revel in their accomplishments...then we take a little pride in knowing that we planted a few good seeds. A mutual respect here..the son is grateful for his father’s influence, the father is proud of what has turned out well for his son.
Max sellin himself short is the best part. Most underrated chops in the business.
“Bruce gave me a list of a couple 100 songs & we’ll add more”… 🤣 This is just awesome! #insane
Great video awesome to see both great drummers

Thats a proud Papa right there. Both of these guys are great.
They're masters of the most technical genre of their individual eras. That's so freakin sick
Max is top class. And so is J. Absolute showmen. God bless.
excellent video. Such a proud Dad
God, Max is so funky. Fills the space around him with airy, head-nodding rhythm. And I liked Jay before I even knew he was a different drummer in Slipknot :P
I grew up watching Late Night with Conan with my dad, and Slipknot is and forever will be my favorite band. When we all found out Jay was the new drummer for Slipknot, omg, that, that was very interesting.
How cool is this, like the Griffey’s playing baseball or Earnhardt’s in daytona. Max has to be in 7th heaven. Their drum battle at the Guitar Center show was probably the best of them, imo
Max has been as steady as a rock and carried the beat for thousands of concerts over 45 years. That takes something beyond talent. Hopefully his son can have a similar career.
Jay is so blessed to have a dad like Max
I like Max. You can see it in his controlled dynamics. Being loud and quiet at will is important.
