Thank you for this video. I have Alto 802 Live professinal Mixer with audio interface built in, I suffer that hiss noise when I record from my midi keyboard to Daw through the mixer using the Usb cable. What is the best way to get ride of this problem?

It is my understanding is none of the ground lift devices are UL certified including hum X. So while they work they do present certain hazards. The ground loop isolators work but might alter the audio signal a bit. The best way seems to be to run all balanced audio cables and devices in your audio chain.

I have an interference issue. I’ve tried different amps, cables, guitars, in all combinations/isolations and can’t escape the noise. I even tried battery-powered equipment to no avail. I’ve tried ampless setups into monitors; still getting noise. Not sure what to do other than giving up on music. It’s not a guitar shielding issue. All guitars have one single ground and all my guitars have humbuckers, and all 10 of them do it. What can you do about radio interference?

Been researching cleaning up the sound on my setup and this video was incredibly helpful as Adam's videos always are. One thing to note, I've never used Hum X devices but my understanding is they aren't power conditioners but, rather, clean up noisy grounds, specifically. And a question...Does he say he uses a Hum X unit on one of his PCs? I think these devices top out at 6 Amps. I've never measured what my PCs actually pull but the power supplies top out at 60+ amps, I think.

  • @EposVox

Most of what power conditioners and audio cleaners do is just stabilize/clean up ground noise/loops/feedback. That's what HumX do, yes. Also I think you're confusing Amperage with something else. A desktop PC only pulls about 3 amps, and a normal circuit from your breaker only pulls a max of 15 or 20 amps - certainly nothing remotely close to 60, heh.

@@EposVox Thank you for the reply and the clarification. Been building PCs for two decades and it's never occurred to me to look at what amperage a PS pulls under normal use until this project. I'm definitely going to invest in a handful of these Hum X units, then. With the isolation advice you gave, Furman power conditioning powerstrips, ground loop isolators, and the Behringer hum destroyers, my sound is almost completely clean, although I'm still getting a low-grade screech/click sound on one channel coming from one PC. Engaging the PAD on the mixer mostly silences it but I'm being anal and hoping some of these units does the trick. I'm also going to crack open my PC cases and remove the front panel connections from the onboard sound. I've heard these cables can pick up mad RF inside the case and they almost never get used anyway. Thanks again, and thank you for your excellent work. Your videos are an invaluable resource.

PCs can draw 60amps and more, but of 12volts DC power from you power suply units, its not the same as 60amp from 120volt AC from the wall.

Hi all, Issues: Loud random static noise pop up on one HS8 left speaker and it won’t output guitar sound. Unless I change guitar preset on my Hotone Amero stage 2 and it works again. Sometimes it produces loud pink noise (on both speakers) and it won’t go away till I switch the power off on guitar processor and speakers. It’s happening every time I play almost every day. Connections: Guitar -to Hotone ampere stage 2 - Xlr out from Hotone to XLR in Yamaha HS8 Studio monitors. Usb c to usb a to laptop. All the power is from one power Board. Please advise if you any idea how to get rid of these- thanks in advance.

  • @EposVox

At that point it's a motherboard issue. Switch USB ports, make sure it's plugged directly into the motherboard's USB ports, not a hub or the front panel ports, etc. The first tip or so about isolating your PC power away from noisy electronics would still help there, too.

Thanks a lot. I'm guessing it's my fan but the h100i water cpu with 2x noctura fans didn't help me. Do you recon it would help if I moved the pc into another room or would I need to invest in pre-amp or such? Followed quite a few of your after edits on removing the noise with adobe or such, just didn't cut it.

  • @EposVox

It's less about what's plugged into the mobo and just the general quality. Sometimes they just have noisy USB buses. That's one of the main reason audio pros use Macs, actually, much cleaner USB and audio jacks. Dunno about moving it to another room, but another outlet might clean up the power. -- Unless (upon re-reading) you just mean you have a lot of background noise, rather than electrical sounds.

Dang it, I guess I'm quite screwed. Usually when I record I only have my monitor and desktop on. tv in the room is disabled. Desktop fans are turned down to quiet and that helped some. So if I'm understanding you correctly I should it is likely to be the fans or motherboard USB buses. I'm quite clueless where to invest, if it the motherboard, fans or upgrade the mic/recording setup : / - Again thanks a bunch
