Gucci Wallet Restoration ASMR

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Replaced the GG fabric on this Gucci wallet. This vintage wallet was stitched with cotton thread, so everything had to come apart to re-stitch it with nylon thread. This was a $500 job.

A friend of mine has wanted a Louis Vuitton purse for the longest. She was gifted one about 2 years ago. I really thought she knew what they were made of. Then, one day, we were talking about how expensive they could get. I remarked that I never thought a purse that wasn't leather could cost so much. She never knew it wasn't leather...

I often question why some people restore what they do, like this relatively inexpensive piece; the restoration probably cost twice what this piece originally cost. What I can never question, however, is why they came to you…. You’re work speaks for itself. You’re a true craftsman, a master of his trade. As always, great job with the restoration. Bravo 👏

He's mentioned lots of reasons in the past, with "sentimental value" easily being far and away the most common reason mentioned, such as a gift from a family member who passed away. Other reasons I remember hearing are designs no longer available, or current version is lower quality but higher cost, restoring something as a gift for someone else, lots of reasons.

@@malcolmlane-ley2044 relatively. But I have had several and these, before bidenomics, would go for $200-$300. Expensive, compared to target and Walmart, and still pricier the no-name true leather counterparts of similar design. But you pay a premium for the name…so where a similar design, no name, true leather, would set you back $100-$200, a Gucci at $300-$400 isn’t a far stretch… I’m not sure what you relate to, a Hyundai vs a Lexus, a baofung vs a yeasu, pirelli vs kumofast….😅 they’re not cheap, but relatively speaking….I can imagine this work was $600-$1000, for all that time spent and the price of a master craftsman…heck, mechanics at dealers charge $100 an hour. Easily 6hrs spent here.

Q: Steve. When you are resewing on the machine, do you do a test to find the exact stitch length of the original. On a small piece of fabric? Or, once you dial it in on an inside piece, you are pretty much certain the entire wallet uses the same length? Your stitch placement (over the hundreds of projects I have watched) is spot on.

11:53. I can’t really tell but it looks like you’re running that thread through the same holes already in the leather. If that’s the case I was wondering how you get everything to line up on the machine. Do you determine the amount of threads per inch and set your machine for that “step-over” distance and have the spacing controlled by those two little metal things that look like feet near the needle, or do you need to control the spacing manually as you pull the leather through? 🤔
