If you look closely the true "best friends" in this movie are actually Nebula and Rocket. She's the only one who physically reacts (stifling a sob) when she hears rocket's voice. And the first person Rocket asks for when he wakes up is Nebula. And that's because they were the last 2 guardians after the snap and spent more time together than anyone else.

Peter goes back to his grandpa, not his uncle. I get what youre saying about the planet being destroyed but that was done more to highlight how evil the villain was rather than have the characters cry about people they dont know being killed (like a scene of Peter and Drax punching walls because the bat people who helped them are now dead would feel out of place).

As a harsh critic, I have a hard time believing that you'd give the movie a perfect score. I agree that the best moments are flashbacks and some instances of the team together, but the rest of the movie just isn't very good. I could understand you saying 4/5 or 8/10 if all of the jokes and everything worked for you, but remove those flashbacks and I feel like you have a 2/5 movie, maybe 3/5 at most.

🤣 the thumbnail. Now knowing that James Gunn didn't even want Warlock in there, it makes so much sense why he was seen as, not only an afterthought, but also somewhat of a jester in the movie. Maybe that was Gunn's way of expressing how he felt about being coerced to use him.

The High Evolutionary is what Kang should've been. He's truly horrifying, and sets the stakes really well, because there's personal stakes with this villain. Sure he got beat just like Kang did, but it wasn't in some BS way from some C tier hero-this was Rocket's way of closing that chapter of his life, of FINALLY putting things to rest. In not killing the HE (high evolutionary) Rocket is proving once again how much he's grown as a person, and how much BETTER he is as a person. And I love how this movie makes you look back at other scenes in the previous installments, and this movie actually does what a sequel should and ENHANCE those previous installments, not make you go question things about them. Scenes like Rocket saying "He didn't chase them away....even though he was mean, even though he stole batteries he didn't need" and Quill saying in reply "Well of course not" hits so much harder. And another thing I like about this is movie is that it just tells its story, and that's something the GOTG movies have always done well-they feel isolated yet they can be part of the whole universe if they need to be. And that's what the MCU needs right now. Isolated stories that could become part of something later-it's why Shang-Chi is one of my favorite MCU phase 4 movies, and it's why No Way Home worked so well. When you just take the time to explore these characters, and not the setting the story works.

Guardians 3 made me decide to quit the MCU. Not because I disliked the movie. But because I realized it was the last chance I would have to get anything close to a satisfying ending. Ever since Spider-Man Homecoming, I made it a goal to watch every MCU movie in theaters. But after two straight years of movies that I didn't want to rewatch and feel almost nothing about looking back, I just decided to end on a high note. Every character I cared about in the MCU is either dead, ruined, or has their story completed. I'm coming back for Deadpool 3 (because I trust the director, I trust Ryan Reynolds, and I want to see the MCU get laughed at), but after that, I don't care enough about anything going on to watch any more.

One observation I made about your gripe with Rocket coming back to life is well, Lyla wouldn't know that Rocket is a Raccoon. If my memory suits me right she said something along the lines of "It isn't your time yet silly Raccoon." Who constantly calls Rocket a Raccoon? Peter Quill. That was Peter Quill saying those things but rocket imagines it was Lyla. This fake reality his dying mind put him into is shattered by the fact that Lyla wouldn't even know that Rocket is a raccoon, thus he comes back through his best friend helping him come back.

The Drinker, though great, is wrong to analyze the movie as only being good based on 10 minutes of screen time, and thus bad because so much hinges on so little. He knows better. Heath Ledger only appears on screen for 33 total minutes of The Dark Knight, and probably spends less than half of that taking. Kevin Spacy doesn't even make an appearance until the very end of Se7en. John McClane and Hans Gruber definitely have less than 10 minutes of walkie-talkie banter in Die Hard. Movies unevenly distribute the bulk of whatever that special something is all the time. That's totally fine. I get choked up at the end of Warrior almost every time I watch it, and that's like three total minutes that totally sticks the landing of the entire film. More often than not, movies are remembered explicitly for that one memorable scene, speech, fight, chase, etc. I mean, would anyone even *want* five, ten, fifteen minutes more of the High Evolutionary abusing animals? Of course not. That movie would be weird as fuck, as there's absolutely such thing as too much of a good thing. TL;DR it's OK for the bulk of your approval of a thing to hinge on one or two very important details, as my dipshit friend from college who accidentally went home with a tranny can undoubtedly attest. (True story. Poor bastard.)

I think this movie shines in it being not ashamed of it's own existance Like, there's real emotional scenes that are real tearjerkers and they're built arround a fucking talking racoon. And they FUCKING WORK, because the movie was sicnere about it and wasn't afraid of looking ridiculous or too 'comic booky' Same for the scenary, the one-liners, the extremelly unhinged villain, et cetear For all it's joking arround and need to make evey character into comic relief, gunn still takes the movie itself and it's character serious enough to not go 'heh, this is so silly and dumb it looks striaght out of a comic book' all the time on his comic book movie It's not ashaed of being what it wants to be, and that's something marvel hasn't been since a long time

I would rate it definitely higher than 'okay', It's just better. The relationship between Star Lord and Rocket isn't anything like Steve and Bucky. We just have to understand that they care very deeply about each other even tho they don't seem to. Rocket saved Peter after he got snapped, Peter saved rocket back in this installment. They both value family that they had after being rogues and criminals. They had to include orgo stuff cuz it's Gunn and his main style is humour. Hell, MCU survives on humour. I do agree that movie geeks such as you don't enjoy that kinda humour much, but they had to include it because everyone isn't a Movie Cynic. People complain about film being short if they cut scenes, people again complain because those extra scenes do not add much to the story, not everything has to. GGs

I mean I don't think anybody expected Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to save the MCU because of how garbage all the other movies have been, but that doesn't mean this by itself is a bad movie. It's a really heartfelt and heartboeaking story, and it actually has the balls to end the trilogy without setting up 20 different things nobody cares about. There was no political banter, no bad CGI, no cringey dialogue. It was a movie that the director actually cared about and wanted to do the best sendoff he could possibly do. This will probably be the last great movie Marvel ever releases, but it's still a great movie nonetheless

I find it rather unfitting and bizarre that Peter just decides to walk away at the end. Sure she's not the Gamora he knew, but if he just gives her space and stop trying to make her be someone she isn't (yet), there might be chemistry after all. And what's he going back to earth for, just to see his grandpa, whom he doesn't even know is still alive? And then what? Work as a janitor at Dairy Queen? I feel like they could've continued being a team, and they could easily make more content with these guys (provided it's James Gunn, and not some man-hating pos like the one who directed She Sulk)

  • @Connor-fr5cn

    @Connor-fr5cn

    Жыл бұрын

Yeah none of that makes sense. None of it was set up. Quill was always the center piece, it was always his story and he was the leader they looked too. In G1, G2, IW, LaT, it's clear he's the main guardian and the focus is on him. For this movie to be the finale, where rocket is the main character and goes on no leadership journey but somehow ends up the leader is very strange. His deepest bond- Groot, goes no where, it's not even seen. The arc Quill was set up for is the B plot and gets rushed right at the end. Drax is now a peaceful father, but we never actually got to see him be a Destroyer or his bond with children so it's a very hollow ending for him. Mantis never has shown problems with her identity, she has willingly done everything she's wanted to do so far, so for her to abruptly abandon her family for a soul quest is very strange- especially when earlier she criticized Quill for abandoning his Grandfather and not reaching out. It's a good movie, but there are very real flaws. This should have been a 2 parter, so that this movie can tell its story and part 4 can get a finale with the ending we saw.

replying to connor, i rewatched the gotg trilogy recently and id say theyre like a family (uk how sibling rivalry works?) more than looking at quill as a leader, heck they even joked about listening to thor over quill like quill is a self proclaimed leader which made the dynamic very funny. and in gotg 2 even tho its centred on quill it also sets rocket up for a centre bc, and i qoute paraphrased, "its always rocket, rocket this, rocket that" rocket complained as they fought ego. they all relied on rocket to defeat ego. (ie, waited for his ship to come back, his makeshift bomb, tht one bit about tape and how if anybody should hve tape, its him. hes like the dad/mom of the group.) and if someone should take over the gotg when quil is out, it should be him. as for drax, i can agree tho his time as the destroyer ended in gotg 1 in the prison, he continued to be a doffus muscled brain until we finaly see how hes not actually entirely a muscle brain bc hes good w kids, hav we forgot how this man fell in love w his wife and loved his child so dearly tht he called ronin himself? id say he is very capable of emotion and as a dad and we actually saw him more as a destroyer in all the movies than we do as a father which is very well deserved. (and i dont read the comic but watching him fron gotg 1 i found it funny tht mayb his destroyer title only exist in tht prison bc he dominated tht cell but no one outside has ever heard or fear him haha) as for mantis, i find hers the most liberating bc like u said, she has been doings thing willingly FOR the guardians bc thts the only thing she knew, she was brought up by ego, secluded with the only purpose to put him to sleep. she might as well just been born. shes a blank canvas and its about time we see her find herself. and the catalyst, my fav, being how her empathy is being taken for granted in the gotg family dynamic. like how nebula (iirc) critiqued, she was the group's emotional support and nothing else and she screamed back, finally hvng been heard (notice how she talks alot but know one listens to her or took her seriously, she even expressed tht herself) and how thru out the entire show everytime they tried to charm their way thru situations or "talk it out" everyone would just resort to violence. and the scene w the abilisk, we finally saw a situation where empathy is used for the better compared to resorting to violence. she shined in tht scene hvng finally steped up and went w her lead, so id understand her wanting to find herself and focus on herself. shes not abandoning her family there but to find herself like how quill is leaving to find himself if he were to go back to his gramps. the one with groot tho i totally agree, wished theyd touch on him more and at least showed groot being as devastated as quill wen rocket was about to die. i just feel like the movie worked bc the set up has been littered in movies outside of the trilogy too. we hav concluded quill's story w his father in gotg 2 so if we were to still be hunged on him in the 3rd vol, itd be abit too much for me like what more do we want for quill, the title do say its gotg, not star lord. hes suffered losing a mother, 2 fathers(which has been resolved), lover and now, his new found family.

The man that Peter went to visit at the end is his grandfather, Jason Quill. He was at the beginning of Vol 1 and Gamora tries to convince Peter to visit him in Vol 2. That being said, I have lots of issues with Peter's ending. Firstly, why does his siter, Mantis, not go with him if she wants to learn more about her family. Sure, he's not her biological grandfather, but he mightbbe the only family she has. Secondly, why does he choose to stay on Earth so long (we don't really know how long he stays, the passage of time is not clear). Finally, why didn't he do it in Endgame (on that note, did Rockst never meet a raccoon over the 5 years he spent on Earth? Did he not Google one? "I am Rocket. Rocket RACCOON" is my favorite line but its like they're pretending Endgame never happened.)

It was a nice conclusion to these characters, but most importantly it had heart and didn’t feel written by a robot writer committee. Does it revitalize the MCU? Hell no, but the real question is: Do I really care at this point? Phase 4 made me not care at all for the overarching narrative they’re trying to get at. I’ll gladly take a good self-contained movie about characters I like and ignore whether it ties to the other garbage they put out recently.

I thought MoM will be my last MCU movie, but I made an exception for GoTG3. I am so glad I watched. I agree mostly with your review here. Orgoscope was completely useless. I also found interesting how abusive the guardians were towards the people of Counter-Planet. Stealing car. Drax knocking one guy off a motorbike and stealing it. It's in Drax's character and I guess it doesn't matter because the planet was going to explode anyways **rolling eyes**

I find it funny how some people in the comments are automatically calling the skeptics who aren’t sure about this movie haters somehow just because of the mess phase 4 was and now they are surprised many people were expecting the same nonsense for this movie just like how antman 3 ended up being regarding phase 5. I honestly don’t blame them for not wanting to bother with the movie considering Disney’s track record and reputation for marvel even if Guardians 3 is a decent film.

"Separated" or "insulated" from the rest of the MCU... I keep hearing this about this movie, to which my only response is: Is the MCU even really a thing anymore? Mental exercise here: Name any two movies from Phases 4 or 5 that have... literally anything to do with one another. Considering Phase 4 started with a film staring an already dead character and was thus entirely backfill... yeah, it didn't start off well. Even "No Way Home"... *looked* like it might lead into "Multiverse of Madness", but, ultimately... No. The Multiversal stuff in MoM had *nothing* to do with the spell mishaps from "No Way Home". There is *no* throughline to these films anymore, nothing is building to anything, it's just .. noise.

Great stuff as always. If GOG3 kicked off Phase 4, it sleep-walks to $1B. MCU doesn’t always follow comics. That said, wanna save the MCU? Here’s how it goes - Quill returned to Earth - becomes new leader of Avengers. He recruits Dr. Strange, Spidey (Sony issue), Nebula, Wasp, Lang, Thor, Banner, Sam and Bucky as core team. Along with others helping on the side - using - Moon Knight, Deadpool, Logan, Shang-Chi, Loki (no idea how), new Guardians and couple Ravagers. Also, make High Evolutionary the big bad going forward. This causes Quill to go to Strange. High Evolutionary wants to destroy Earth 616 for revenge. This is how the MCU can bring back excitement. If still want to use Kang, then have a twist where him and High Evolutionary team up. Maybe Wanda has a redemption type arch… What not to do: Use pointless Kamala Khan, Cassie, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Monica Reambooo, Namor and 95 pound Black Panther. Lastly, not caring about Counter Earth, doesn’t surprise me. Why? Because the film wasted ~25 mins going to OrgoScope. Remove that. Then, add Quill / Rocket little more time. This also allows few mins for them to care about Counter Earth being blown up. GOG3 rating: 7.5 / 10.

Out of all the so-called “good villains” of the MCU, High Evolutionary seems like the only one who should be killed right away in a single movie because Rocket sparing his life is so out of character for him. Rocket helped kill Ronan and Ego for a lot less and none of these villains really hit Rocket on a personal level. High Evolutionary is TOO PERSONAL for him. Rocket (if he’s consistent) would have wanted to confirm kill to make sure that he’s really dead. So we got Killmonger and Gorr who got killed in their very first film, even though making them recurring villains could work better for them, while High Evolutionary, who should have died in this movie just got a fake out death for his eventual return for the future Avengers sequels.

A single planet, in one universe is a much much smaller threat Then the entire Multiverse, having some kind of dilemma. This is actually partly a real story from the comic books, and Adam warlock really was kind of a child like dumb ass. Wayback when he was called h.I.m. And was drawn by jack Kirby, when he was doing things like kidnapping Thors girlfriend siff and stuff. People would’ve been complaining Way more if he had been the Space Jesus of the comics starting the universal Church of truth

I think your criticisms are very good, a well rounded review. I don’t agree with you on some things and there are a few character errors like it being Peter’s Grandad not Uncle but I can respect your criticisms definitely, it’s a shame about Adam Warlock
