Mk5 Gti (BWA) Timing Kit job DIY, how hard could it be? Turns out not much... Just 3hrs and alot of pain getting that engine mount bracket on the engine in/out. Else everything else goes smooth.......
Disclaimer: Am not a qualified VW mech... all i do is out of interest and to illustrate to any other DIY grease monkeys out there

Great video! Done virtually everything else on my 2006 Leon FR (BWA 2.0 TFSI), but this has always been one of the things i've avoided due to what's involved but you make it look so simple, great informative video and really insightful.

That engine mount can be a headache. It's the main reason why I was watching this video. I wanted to see if there are other ways of doing it easier. I think it's the most "difficult" part of the entire job. A time waster indeed. Good video mate.

Great video. The engine mount was a nightmare. I had to drop the exhaust from the motor as it was hitting the tunnel and stopping the motor coming up high enough.

I like the way you have invested in tools..that's the number 3 problem that hinders potential DIY's..other than passion & drive(actually doing it) which are 1 & 2..another chris fix in the making.

Good job on the video, very well explained, and great job with the camera. If I may leave my 2 cents, I would just highly suggest to always recommend to replace the water pump in this process, and also use the recommended antifreeze for these engines.

Yeah I seen that green antifreeze too. Who knows how much calcium etc deposits it’s creating with the aluminum block.

That green coolant probably not doing well for component’s and aluminum engine block.. The Pink is the only thing that should be in there. G3 or G4 or equivalent.. How many miles on this car?

The engine mount bracket is the only "difficult"point on this job. Must to pull up the engine, limit up ,with a jack under the engine.

@@optiAeroYou don’t move it too much. Just make sure to have a board or 2x4 dispersing the weight so you don’t crack oil pan.

Never reuse the stretch bolts that hold the engine mount to the motor they sheer off and snap if fresh ones not used
