    Doing the exact same thing with my A4. (Oil pump chain snapped) How did you stop everything from turning when torqing down the crank bolt? Thanks!

    For this go around, I just hit it with a 1/2 inch impact till the bolt stopped turning and held it there for a couple of seconds. If you're really concerned, you can wait till the engine is in the car and then torque it to spec then, but your fine if your throw a bunch of 'ugga-duggas' at it and send it. Also, in the past, I've put a couple of the little crank bolts (M6 bolts) in the crank sprocket and used a skinny pry bar or long screw driver to hold the sprocket as I torqued. Alternatively, you can put a couple of old fly wheel bolts in the back of the crank and use the same method to torque the bolt at the front while holding a prybar to the crank at the back.

    Hope you still around and see this, I have the same engine same year and I have a problem, I'm trying to replace the timing belt and chain for maintenance purpose. My problem is, it doesn't matter how many time I rotate the exhaust camshaft, the mark and those Loop on the cam that face each other with the intake cam, just don't line up, never. If i rotate the exhaust camshaft 100 times and line mark with mark, , 100 times those loop face the other way (face the rear of car) What im doing wrong?

    Whatsup Luisito! Hey, sounds like your problem might be that you have some type of misalignment with the cams due to the timing chain in the rear of the head. My recommendation is to strip the head down (remove the cradle and cams) and re-install everything in the correct alignment with new chain and tensioner. Good luck and let me know how it goes - feel free to email me at beerwrenchkc@gmail.com.

    Hello my brother how are you well if the time in belt cut from golf 2005 2.0 engine it will bend the valves or not

  • @beerwrenchgarage

    @beerwrenchgarage

    Yes my friend, unfortunately if the belt broke while the engine is running, I believe you likely have some bent valves. I think all the 2.0 engines of the era whether they are gas, diesel, turbo, or naturally aspirated are 'interference engines' meaning if the timing is interrupted, the valves and pistons will collide. Good luck with you project and thanks for the question!

    We had a 2006 Audi A4 wagon 3.2 Quattro for 7 years, however the timing got screwed up because of the tensioner! It had bent valves and broken rocker arms! The price was $12,000 to fix the engine🤑! Unsurprisingly it was the left camshaft as usual! Why is it always the left camshaft that has the issue? We decided to not have it repaired and we got a 2012 Audi A4 wagon, the 2012 has 107,000 miles! The 2006 went to Copart! I loved that car, sometimes I cry because I miss it! The 2012 burns a quart of oil every 620 miles😡! The 2009-2012 2.0TFSI is probably one of the worst engines in the world! The 2017-present 2.0TFSI is VERY reliable! 5 months after the 2006 was at Copart I checked carfax and it said Junk title certificate issued😭😔. RIP 2006 Audi A4 wagon, you will always be my favorite car no matter what LOL! Failure mileage 106,642 miles!

    Sorry to hear about the demise of the 2006 wagon. I dont have any experience with the 3.2 so I dont know what reputation they have, but clearly yours failed early. You're right on the 09-12 TFSI engine - they have massive issues with piston rings. Although, if you are feeling like a project, you might try your hand at doing a home rebuild. Updated piston rings should solve your oil consumption issue and get you back to enjoying your wagon. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel!

    @@beerwrenchgarageSomething I’m concerned about is that our 2.0TFSI cranks 2 seconds longer than it used to! Is it timing chain related on the 2.0TFSI? Our 3.2 FSI was sitting for 4 months so we never really knew about it until we tried to start it!

    @@Jacob-sq6dx First thing I would do is check the battery. If its more than a couple of years old, it may be getting weaker and not driving the starter out hard enough. Second thing would be to check to make sure the low pressure fuel pump is operating within parameters - sometimes a weakening fuel pump may struggle to get fuel to the engine immediately during crank up. Also, if you have a decent amount of mileage, it could be excessive carbon buildup on the intake valves as well. Likely, its a combination of a couple factors - but check the easiest and most obvious first - the battery.

    How do you ensure that the number 1 piston is TDC without removing intake manifold? I’m needing to replace intake cam soon . Also I have a 400 hp engine so I need to make sure timing is percosse

  • @beerwrenchgarage

    Is the engine on a stand or is it in the car? The most basic way you can do it is mark the lines up with your crank pulley, timing cover, and cam sprocket. If they are aligned, you will be at TDC. The other simple way of doing it is to look at the rear lobes of your exhaust and intake cams. The last two lobes should be at about a *45 angle pointing toward each other. Lastly, you can put a long extension in one of the cylinders through the spark plug hole - when the extension is at max height and the marks are lined up, you will be at TDC.

    Is the engine in the car or out on a stand. If its in the car, try to put the transmission in reverse (if its an auto have someone in the car). If its outside of the car, you can you a prybar on the back of the flexplate bolts to hold it in place. Good luck, those crank bolts get on there really well sometimes - you just need to find a way to immobilize the engine and apply leverage to the bolt.

    @@markmkv940 OK - so a couple of ways to do it - Ive had good luck using the old bolts for the flex plate/fly wheel screwed back into the back of the crank and then wedging a long pry bar diagonally between and across the bolts. Holding the handle of the pry bar with one hand and pulling on a long breaker bar on with the other will give you a shot at breaking it loose. Another method, if you still have timing belt on and the complete cylinder head on is feeding nylon chord through a spark plug hole to take up empty space on in the cylinder as the piston is coming up - eventually the piston cannot move against the nylon and it will prevent the crank from turning at this point you can put a very long breaker bar on the crank bolt and have at it. If you do this, take care to ensure you are turning the motor in reverse when feeding the nylon in. If worse comes to worse, Audi makes a tool that goes into the holes of the crank sprocket and allows you to turn the crank bolt.

You have to count 18 links from the gold colored link and then lay the space between the 18 and 19 th link on your chain on the marked tooth on the timing adjuster for the exhaust cam.
