Nice to see someone who knows where to place the mast with a small bermuda sail. Is that about a 38-42 sq ft? I use Grumman canoes to build trimaran camping rigs. The big 64ft gunter from Grumman can be modified and improved for very good performance with reef points and removal of the boom sock to sail it loose footed. I do like a rudder/tiller set up though, using a painter's extension rod for the Norwegian Tiller arrangement. A 20ft jib makes tacking and upwind performance as good as any "real" sailboat.

Yep the set up is pretty balanced I think. After first few sailing sessions I started to steer mostly without the paddle - just by canting the canoe from side to side and it worked better than I expected. I don't know exact size of the sail but its very small. Closer to 30 than 40 I think. I like simplicity but I allready started to concider adding a boom and a jib or a genoa with a roller furler 😀 You should make a video of Your Grumman trimaran build.

@@Purjejolla My vids got old so I took them down but did re-up one for a friend last week. Here's link. This one starts slow but at 1.30 the wind hits and the rig takes off. The boat is empty because all my campng gear is set up nine miles away. I was heading back for the evening when the cold air started hurtling down the mountain across the lake. @@Purjejolla I used the rigid foam insulation that comes in 8ft x 2ft sheets x 2" thick. if you have any kind of shop vac that's all you need to contain the dust. Just tape on the hose to the exhaust port. I had zero dust issues. The bulk of the shaping is done witrh a very sharp roast beef knife. A random orbital sander with 80grit discs is all you need. Mine took about 30 minutes to finish shape. The knife work took about 40. It goes so fast you have to hold back some or you can gouge it. The e-glass took several days to layer up the grounding areas, but other than a mess, it went well. Very solid and armored. They turned out to be only 17lbs each and look as good as any pro-made surfboard. I have an entire step-by-step photo montage I can send you, but I dont know how. Any ideas?

Am needing a sail for my 13ft canoe but have no idea how big a sail to use? Whats yours?

Heigth is s about 3,8 meters and foot length about 1,6 meters. I think that makes a bit more than 3 square meters. That's quite a smallish sail in my opinion but enough to move the canoe. Hope to see Your sailing video some day!
