Small Boat Sailing - Freeport Virginia 2023

A dozen or so handmade wooden sailboats gather every spring at an old steamboat landing on the Piankatank River, a tidal river on the Chesapeake Bay. Sailors in the Old Bay Club of the Traditional Small Craft Association meet up with builders from the Deltaville Maritime Museum to camp and sail and admire beautiful craftsmanship.
Seen here are Caledonia Yawls, a Sooty Tern, Chesapeake Sharpie Crabbing Skiff, Melonseed, Matinicus Peapod, and a Herreshoff Coquina.

That was Delightful! Seeing all of the Wooden Sailing craft , I enjoyed the "feeling" of being in the sailboat with the person with his/her galoshes propped up on the rail. Thank You all for sharing. ☺

I have never been attracted by big sailing boats. Too much costs and problems. To me, nothing beats the pleasure of dinghy sailing. I learned as a kid, then again on a lake under snow 🙂. I am waiting for summer now. Until then, such a pure joy to watch your video ! Thanks !

My friend Al has a theory : the boat length to fun is an inverse relationship. The smaller the boat the more fun you have. Bigger boats mean more worries.
I just got a 15foot keel boat on a trailer, and I'm looking for good spots to camp and launch around the Chesapeake. Do you have any suggestions? Btw, I love the meditative videos.
