After years of sailing, often in "rough and heroic" conditions, in Pacific Ocean and "South China Seas", I cannot express how much I enjoy these images of simple, peaceful sailing, with all the details, remembering my youth and my homeland. Thank you so much!

Watching this one again, I noticed a technique that you use to wonderful effect; the blending of ambient sound with the music. Most folks choose one audio source or the other, reducing the workload, but also the charm of the video. Bravo to you! 👍

Thanks for noticing! It's actually really hard to get good ambient audio. It's another thing to think about, and between wind and cars and barking dogs, etc., always a crapshoot, so I don't begrudge others who bail on the whole exercise. But I do love the sounds. It's a big part of the experience.

This guy's name drove me crazy! I had to pause the screen on one device, and type it in, to search, on another. "Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh is a fiddler, born in Dublin, Ireland." His Music is available on KZread, Spotify, and Apple Music. Thanks for the introduction to a fascinating musician! As well, of course, as another lovely sailing, boat, and nature video! 🙂

Indeed. Glad you like it. Really interesting musician. I'll add his name in the description to save others the same trouble. Look up what he's done with the Hardanger Fiddle. Amazing stuff.

Beautiful boat and beautiful video. You've done a lot of work here to create this video and it shows but NO boat model, length or designer mentioned in the notes, Why? Thirty seconds to name just a few of the more prominent boats. You took so much time, hours and days why not thirty seconds more to complete the picture. It is significant to many of us who love boats to know the model, designer, length of the boats we are seeing and are interested in. It would be a act of kindness!

Point well taken. These videos are part of a longer written narrative, an ongoing blogging project that includes the building of boats and adventures aboard them. I do include links in the description to relevant blog posts for those who are interested. I often put a lot of time and research into those posts. I guess by the time I get to posting the video, rewriting that extra info here feels redundant. Since it's a continuous narrative, I don't restate specs on these boats every time they appear, which would get tiresome for my regular readers. If you are interested in a particular boat, leave me a comment. I'm happy to not only send you detailed info, but even put you in touch with the builder. Cheers.

The very first boat is a Caledonia Yawl. An Ian Oughtred design. There are several of those in our fleet.

The one;s with the mizzen masts look like Iain Oughtred's Caledonia Yawls, or the smaller Ness Yawl.

Most correct, you are. He and a fellow musician Dan Trueman played here a couple of years ago. They also did a live hour in the local alternative radio station, which saved it as a podcast (which has since fallen below the fold on iTunes). Besides playing some great music, they tell the history of the special fiddles they play, which have a series of strings that are never bowed, but ring in sympathetic harmony with the other strings that are. It's still up on SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/wtju/caoimhin-o-raghallaigh-dan-trueman-on-wtjus-atlantic-weekly-18-april-2015 and kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5Zqx9WBgqTRcbw.html
