They have a new light. It’s cream colored I think. You can connect two of them together if you want a taller one, but this means buying more accessories and more money. You can use it vertically or horizontally by hanging it by wires.

If money isn't tight, get the sturdy stuff. If it is, there are very cheap Barrina lights that do the job, but handle with care because you get what you pay for. The 10W ones need to be very close to the leaves so it's more for grow shelves for relatively low light plants. The 24W ones give more options for plant types and distance. I got Caladiums under one + West window and even the parts 3 inches from the tube have no brown / ''light burn'' at all. Oh and if you're going to use them in a room you'll be in alot, carefully pick the color for comfort. I can't stand the pink ones, the ''day light'' and ''yellow'' ones are fine.

I agree with you when you say "you get what you pay for". And to your light color....that is why I quite enjoy the mother and soltech lights, because not only are they high quality but they resemble natural light. The pink ones are terrible haha

I'm glad you're pointing out the Mother products. They are the most aesthetic grow lights I've seen; you can even buy a replacement LED board when necessary so the housing is reusable. I wondered, since they're a Belgian company, is the wiring & adapter etc. completely safe in the US? Is the unit UL or ETL approved?

I very recently purchased a Dr. Meter off Amazon after I watched one of your other videos. You linked your model but I purchased a newer version, LX1332B, same price, that has the meter ball attached to the unit, instead of separate, like yours. Whenever I get closer to the light source, it blows out the read and displays "1". The instructions say it means overload and I should change to a larger range, however, when I change to LUX, it behaves the same way. Consequently, I can't get a reading past 20 FC. This happens under regular incandescent light as well as my grow lights and 40W LEDs. Did your model ever do that to you? I was thinking it was "operator error", however, I don't believe I am doing anything wrong since I am able to get a read when I hold the meter far away from the light source. I even changed the batteries since the ones included with the meter were DOA. I am frustrated and tempted to exchange it for the model you have, but a disclaimer in the description says your model it isn't applicable for LED or grow lights (obviously wrong, if you use it successfully). Do you have any advice, maybe a "trick", that needs to be done before I can get a proper read? By the way, I love your videos, I watch them all, and your content, too often, seems to coincide with what I am doing, oddly enough!

Hey Tina. Keep it on the FC setting and there should be the "range" button. This sets the range from the 10s to hundreds and if pushed again sets it to the thousands reading. I'm not too sure why they didn't allow all the numbers on the display itself without having to manually change the values. Please let me know if this helps. Feel free to send a picture to my Instagram account so I can point out the button

I got two of these guys, but using the same light ready you have, I’d have to put the light about 15” away just get 250 FC, which is the high medium light. Their app suggests putting it about 40” away or 100cm, what would you advise because I don’t want to burn my monsteras 😅

  • @EverythingPlants

You definitely shouldn't have to put it that close for only 250 FC....that doesn't sound right at all. I would put it at their recommended distances. I have mine about the 36-40 inches away.

But, every plant tag ever says "bright indirect light" and then Google says "if you can easily read it's enough light for most plants"... Here I was thinking my Kindle was helping my plants at night 🤔🤣 obviously kidding but those plant tags really should get slightly more specific. It's so annoying to see a cacti claiming it needs the same light as English Ivy... 🤦🏼‍♀️

@@EverythingPlants they really should, my moisture meter has levels listed on the packaging for a variety of plants, the light portion IMO doesn't work but it's nice to see when I get a new plant what the heck "keep moist allow to dry between watering" means 🤣 so Manny people quit with houseplants BC they always kill it and the cause almost always is that they followed the tags directions.

Lots of plants tagged ''bright indirect light'', if grown inside, will need ''sunlight'' because the glass weakens the sun alot. I was initially scared to burn my ''shade to part shade'' Caladium indoors, but a West window afternoon Sun dosen't burn it. It even seems to want a bit more. So I added a grow light for the morning and cloudy days. Another example is Phalaenopsis, which sellers will often tell you to ''never put it in the sun''... while theirs sit in the sun, in the greenhouse, and the Phalaenopsis love it ( greenhouse glass/plastic also weakens the sun, like your window ). I tried ''bright indirect light'' for Phals, and they don't do well, poor leaf/root growth, usually won't rebloom. Direct East or West sun and they grow well and bloom. Add a grow light for the darker months and they do great all year round ( they hate temps under 15°C though, carefull with windows during cold nights ).
