    I’m so jealous of those willows. I have some cuttings taking off in the back yard, but only a portion of them can handle the dry spells I’m getting here. I’d love to dig a pond for water retention.

    If could average out, how much land is needed to grow out everything a single rabbit eats in one year? I may have to bite the bullet and take your course because I definitely want to start with rabbits correctly next year. All your YT videos are a great wealth of knowledge and help!

    A big gidday Bobbie from Australia. I thought I might write this to assist those living in an almost dessert environment. I live in a very dry climate area, less than 600ml rain per year and we are on tank and bore water. I really envy your lush greenery and your information is spot on for areas that get rain, but as you can imagine it can get very tough here in summer, reaching 44 Degrees C (111Degrees F) in the shade. I use your kindling tote idea as a insulated freeze rooms for my rabbits, at these times. Thankyou also for the idea of throwing radish seed and turnip seed into your food plot. Radishs will grow anywhere from my experience and fast. I have a weed plot which has mallow weed, milk thistle, stork bill weed, shepherds purse, clover ( in spring), stinging nettle and grass. I have just started a rabbit salad pIot of a variety of herbs safe for rabbits in moderation which I will list below. Our main staple is the tagasaste tree (tree lucerne) which I feed fresh and harvest for drying. They eat the entire branches and leaves with relish. It is an indestructable small tree that once established will assuredly last a 10 yr drought with very little rain ( less than 300ml) Tagasaste protein level varies from 18% to 30% protein, dependent on whether it is flowering or not. It can tolerate -6 C and light snow. Oaten hay or teff hay are the only two hays avialable in Australia (Lucerne hay too but rabbits prefer the tagasate). Timothy grass is imported and ridiculously priced. I also use Carob pod as a healthy treat and growth booster for grow outs. My Californians reach 5lb 6oz by 8 weeks and 6lb 6oz by 9 weeks on average. They dress out at 9 weeks 3.52lbs. A couple of weeds to watch out for and eliminate in an Aussie weed plot are Scotch thistle, Variagated thistle and Pattersons curse. I also feed Mulberry leaves Jacaranda leaves and Sylvan berry leaves (non invasive blackberry) The list of herbs I have in my rabbit herb plot are: Please note these should not be given in bulk but part of a varied salad pick twice a week. Salad Burnett Plantain Giant Turkish Comfrey ( only 1/2 leaf per rabbit... and only Symphytum x uplandicum as others can cause cancer) Cat grass Lovage Goats Rue Lemon Balm Chamomile (young leaves and very little.. may reject due to strong smell) White Yarrow Borage Valerian Nasturtian Burdock Herb Robert Musk Mallow Chicory Palla Rosa Red Russian Kale Caraway Basil Rosemary Parsley and 2 rabbits like limited mint the others reject it. I have a few other herbs too that are still young and when I have tested them out I will post that list too. Hopefully this might help out someone struggling with water and feed difficulty. I do also supplement with pellets once daily.

    I just read your post on Sun Chokes. I thought what on earth is a sun choke? So of course Googled it.... Jerusalum Artichoke. I did not know rabbits could eat those. I grew them once in our arid environment and they powered. When we cooked with them, they were quite nice but omg, the wind problem that then overcame both of us and continued... stopped me ever growing them again. Alas your post has inspired me to give them another go and if not for human consumption by choice, at least the rabbits will benefit. So thankyou.

    Thanks for a really good show. Could I ask how much greens do you feed per rabbit and when do you feed. At the moment I feed only hay and pellets. Can you reduce the pellets intake by feeding greens. How do green affect the growth to slaughter age.

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    8 ай бұрын

    When feeding greens, you provide your rabbits with an all natural chemical free food that's fresh. They can't transition overnight you'll need to gradually add more fresh food and less pellet as you go. You can absolutely reduce the pellet intake by providing greens. We'll walk you through it on our course get signed up for free on our freebies section preview.mailerlite.io/preview/37362/forms/54213430306931898 and get our free build diagrams too! Pellet has a lot of nutrition and added benefits. It's easy and convenient but its also pricey and let's not forget processed. When feeding fresh food to your rabbits it may take a bit longer to grow them out unless you match the nutritional value in your pellet.

    I do feed some tree forage and leaves high up on my perennial sunflowers. But worry about e. cuniculi and other rabbit diseases from plants on the ground since we have lots of wild cottontails. Glad RHDV isn’t here (yet?). Do you not worry about disease?

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    8 ай бұрын

    No, I don't worry my rabbits are pretty hearty. I've never had losses do the feeding fresh greens that are grown from the plots. Cotton tails are in the food plots, but there isn't a break out in the area if that was the case, that would mean things might have to change at least temporarily.

    I know they’re hardy (resistant to cold). But some have picked up e.c. And/or pasteurella from either forage or hay. E.c. Is terrible and common (see head tilt hoppers groups).

    Any concerns about things you didn't plant but are included what you harvested? We've been reluctant to include "weeds" which grow alongside our alfalfa.

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    8 ай бұрын

    Weeds can pack their share of vitamins and minerals. I'll do my best to avoid toxic weeds like fox glove, rhubarb that sort of thing. Simply search toxic weeds for rabbits and familiarize yourself the best you can when growing a food plot. A majority will be edible and you shouldn't have a lot of toxic plants. If you do try to make a better application of glyphosate starting with a blanket kill, that way your feed seeds establish healthy root systems and your rabbit food is in abundance.

    If I was to let a portion of my yard grow up without mowing it. Would that be good enough to feed to the rabbit?

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    8 ай бұрын

    Yes that's a good start. Cut with a scythe not a mower that'll mulch it. You can feed that to your rabbits but it's best to provide a variety of greens for a variety of nutrients.
