Your salamander videos were fantastic! So interesting to see them grow and change over time (and what a short time -- and what bloated overeaters they were -- as you said, they did look as if they'd burst from eating all that you fed them). And watching a limb grow back and develop into use was so interesting too. What an amazing creature. Thank you for taking the time to document these animals. I also appreciated you returned them to their natural habitat after they'd grown to adults. Very well done and so very interesting!

The interesting thing is that we actually got the cells they use for regenaration just their cells can go back into a "start form" to regrow limbs while our cells produce scars!

We use to rescue Blue Spotted Salamanders from time to time trying to cross the road in Pinawa late in the summer to early fall often in the evening's. Some people I've talked to in the past have accidentally caught Mudpuppy's while fishing in the Winnipeg River.

Hi! In your other video you rushed one salamander to reach adulthood and I'm wondering, if you never drained the water and forced it would it still reach adulthood later?

Yes, it would have transformed later. In the wild they usually transform in late summer.

would he have still grown his foot back if he'd reached the adult form or is this kind of regrowth only possible in this younger stage?

Yes, they can regrow limbs as adults, too. But regrowth is much better in the larval stage. Adults often have improperly formed limbs when they regrow a leg.

@@NatureNorth Adult newts and salamanders can do even better than that. Experiments have shown that they can even regrow severed spinal cords and eye parts. I've often found newts with extra toes or Y shaped toes. extra limbs are common enough.
