Inside a Hornet's Nest
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A view inside a nest of Bald-faced Hornets. My neighbours in southeast Manitoba had a hornet's nest too close to their house, it had to be removed. After it was sprayed I dissected it to show people the inside. Bald-faced Hornets (Dolichovespula maculata) are not technically "hornets", they are true "wasps". The inside of the nest is an amazing structure.

My first time seeing inside the nest, too. I'm glad you offered them as food for the area's birds.
They are also referred to as ghost hornets. I was "fortunate" to have them build a nest outside my second story window one summer. I didn't bother them nor did they bother me and it was fascinating to have an inside view of their nest
The empty comb at the bottom was most recently built and awaiting eggs that would develope into virgin queens. The workers determine what larva become queens by overfeeding them. I suspect the original queen had died and new queens were being created in the worker combs. Freed of the queen's phermones, the workers also lay eggs that develop into males.
holy shit dude you have balls of steel

But it was already sprayed down with killer thoroughly
My daughter is five and she loves these videos. Very educational. I appreciate the hard work you put into your videos. 👍
Thank you for repeatedly saying that a nest should never be destroyed unnecessarily.
Imagine coming home from work one day and your house is destroyed 😂😭
Incredible and absolutely fascinating, something I wanted to see all my life. Thank you!
The forbidden cabbage
3:57 that one wasn’t dead yet. I see some movement on its lower left “bald” section.
That was awesome . It was very informative. Waiting for more videos .
Very intriguing. Thanks for the video!
5:01 Woah, Those Larvae Are Cute!
Sometime in the last year or so, hornets built a nest on the corner of one of the lower floor windows of the building where I live in. In the last six months, the hornets have vacated the nest and it's not falling apart. The combs are gone, but the inside that was exposed looks just like a chandelier. You can see there were several levels inside the nest.
This is a great video, our boys found one in the neighbor's tree and were wondering what was inside. This was so informative. Keep up the good work.
Surely theres a safe way to remove them for both yourself and them? Such a shame. You say it looks like a scene from a horror film. I say it looks like the remnants from dedicated architects and builders.

I suppose it would be possible to move a nest if you had the proper bee-keeper protective outfit, but human safety must come first. A nest on a stick or branch could be moved to a suitable location, but one on a building would be damaged by removal. And I don't know if the insects would use a disturbed nest. There may be issues with their mental map and scent cues from the old nest that would preclude them using the new site. Interesting thought though.
The larvae of the hornet's nest are so cuteeeeeeee
Impressive
the nest is very large. there are also many here but we are afraid because the sting is dangerous.
BRAVO! thanks alot! very informative and subverted my expectations of what I thought I was going to learn from the video
Amazing thanks for the Info
This was very educational thank you for sharing.
Wow I love your videos, nature is so interesting
Thank you. It is also helpful if you could recommend a safer for the environment spray.
cool, but isn't everything inside the nest considered poisoned, even if dead and feeding animals could also be poisoned?
You have already said it, but i want to emphasize, hornets are not aggressiv in gerneral. Poor little things... 😔
Thank you

Nestled eggs hornet
Wow thank you!!! Had one in my window once, wasn`t that pleasant...
Good video! would have been much better with voice animation. You can’t enjoy the video for having to keep reading the narrative text. Nevertheless it was still educational.

There's a wasp nest just outside my room, I wish I had the balls to spray it without the fear of getting stung by them
