Gonna go out on a limb here and guess it might've had something to do with smell. They're not intelligent and they probably don't have much visual recognition going on in their brain. The guy probably had his scent all over that camera and stand from how much skin contact he made while the drone, which just needed to be placed down, had minimal. So if that's the case then when on attack mode they don't perceive the drone as existing and instead focus on attacking what they believe to be a living creature. Kinda like a weird version of T rex vision. That's all speculation though and I honestly have no clue how their brains work.

I think this might be a clue about how hornets perceive their surroundings. Presumably the camera is emitting some type of electromagnetic field that the drone is not, to make them think its a threatening animal. Apparently they dont rely on sight or sound very much, if it were the case they wouldn't have even noticed the cameras for the loud, erratically moving drone that just cut a hole in their hive.

That was an entertaining 12 minutes. I bought my first drone, I'm in my first week of flying trying to get the hang of it, which brought me here. I see this guy was a firefighter and died in a car wreck after he finished his shift, leaving a wife and children behind. So sad, my heart goes out to his family and friends.

Hornet stings are insane. I remember getting stung outside my parents house when I was a kid and my step dad calling me a wuss about it. Then a few days later he was trimming the hedges, the hornets nest ended up being in there, and they stung him like five times. He went running and diving into my little brother/sister's baby pool at 6'3 and 280lb and I laughed my ass off looking out the screen door. His turn to be the wuss.

where i was raised the things we called hornets were about 4 inches long. My older brother hit one with a kitchen broom and it sounded like he hit a rock. You could feel its wings beating the air when it dive bombed us and they are very territorial.

I sit no less than 15 feet from my older brother which was the one that swatted that huge fucker from the sky. This was in Freeport texas, Brazoria County, circa 1984.

I haven't seen this vid in a long time. I'm still in disbelief that this good man in the prime of his life was killed in a car accident. It shook me to the core back then, and still affects me to this day. He had the perfect life going. Wife and kid's, beautiful home, and a hell of a nice drone, camera's, everything ! He was very knowledgeable with this fine equipment. Then out of nowhere, the unexpected tragedy occurs, and changes life forever. I celebrate his life, and thank him for his contribution to people of all ages around the world. He left his mark in the world, and he is definitely in a better place. God bless this family, and give them the guidance that he no longer can. R.I.P. big man .. You Rock for all time 👍😎❤

@Mobile NPC yea, they are assholes. And a lot of people have bad allergies to them. When I see a hornet, or a wasp i never initiate the fight i just say shit about them, personal verbal attacks. When they come closer I pull my pool noodle float thing (I always carry one, where I live it's useful to have a pool noodle with you at all times) from my pool noodle holster and swing. Killing the buggers in the process.

I’m so sorry for your loss albeit 6 years ago … that is always so hard to go that way so quickly … I hope you and the kids have come thru the grief and loss okay but I lost both my parents in 2012 and dad in 2015 but I STILL miss them and feel grief from the losses of both to this day 😢. Just wanted to say that and offer you and your family my deepest condolences and to add that your husband had a true gift with his drones that’s for sure and I feel utter pity for the Ones that couldn’t see that !! ❤

Exactly, I kept waiting for something to happen but it was a complete waste after that. Even going above the hive to mess with them and blow them around would have been a hundred times more interesting and effective. Watching it just sit there in the air... lame, had no idea what he was trying to accomplish.

I am sorry to hear that he passed. He seemed like a super nice guy. I was attacked by a bald faced hornet. It was the worst, most painful experience and it was only one of them. It attacked my forearm and kept stinging. I could not get it to stop. I swatted and slapped it but it would not let go. When it finally left my arm, it went under my shirt and did the same thing on my ribcage. I swelled up so bad. It took several weeks to go down to normal. I've been stung by many hornets and wasps, but none hurt as bad as that Bald faced hornet.

Ever wonder how WASPS kill other bees who dare enter their hive? The Wasps flap all their wings extremely fast which causes intense heat to build up around intruders and the unwelcome dudes are vaporized - this is no lie, that's what they do. Scary!!

@@craigroberts1670 Those are Japanese Honey Bees. Not WASPS as you put. But you are right about the vibration of their wings, raising the temperature to literally melt the hornet alive. Depending on whether the camera was damaged. The hornets may have actually have won the battle. You'd have probably needed to crash the drone into the nest, to do the damage you were probably hoping for, in the incident. The hornets can repair the nest. They do it all the time. Even at night. Fixing the camera or the drone may cost money.

Hornets did attack the drone. Their guts were splayed all over the drone caught in propellers. Honeybees bullied by hornets, hornets bullied by Drone. Thanks for awesome video!

Hornets have a long enough stinger to actually go through and puncture the suit. So you can still get stung by one of these hornets.

I was wearing headphones so hearing the buzzes made churn and I had to watch the rest of the video with out headphones 😂😅

I love how the hornets are just trying to sting the camera but it doesn't work and the camera doesn't bulge at all😅

Hornets were like: ~Such a big guy here, he is about to destroy us ~I know there is nothing we can do, we will accept defeat of our nest ~...at least nobody will see us get humiliated *see camera* ~ATTACK THE CAMERA!
