Grocery Chain Fined for Price Gouging

California’s top cop says one of the state’s largest grocery store chains padded their pockets as their customers struggled amid the pandemic. As NBC Bay Area’s Jodi Hernandez reports, the state attorney general is hitting Smart & Final with a big fine for price gouging, claiming the store overcharged customers for eggs.

But , what the dumbass Bonta should investigate is the oil companies fleecig billions every day from california consumers. This invstigation of Smart and final is just truck load of human waste. Instead of going after the monstrous corrupt oil companies, stupid AG Bonta was wasting his time in investigating worthless price gouging.

Let me make sure I understand this: the state orders everyone to shut down and then complains the price goes up because of limited supply!? Just because eggs producers did not raise prices does not mean the cost did not go up. Farmers were dumping milk and produce during the pandemic because there were not enough processors and drivers. Unless you were going to buy product by the tonnage and bringing your own transportation, you were not getting supply.

according to their report. their supply costs didn't go up. So I see no reason for the price to go up a significant margin if that was actually the case. I am not sure how they are defining "supply costs" here though. If it's just the price of purchasing the product and not taking into account all the other direct/indirect costs, then this report would be a bit disingenuous, if however, they do include all of those costs into consideration, then they are justified in accusing the grocery store in increasing prices with no reason behind it besides price gouging.

At the daly city store on mission Nothing in their store is priced. You don’t know what things cost until you get to the register and it’s too late. When I asked why , the manager told me they don’t put the prices up because they change with every delivery to the store. I stated that if you raise the price of the old merchandise when you get new merchandise that that is gouging. Surprise surprise… The manager did not agree.

The store receipt ink was faded so you couldn’t tell whether or not the computer debt the amount from the register. But I was adamant and so was he. I had to go on my phone into my account to show him it had come out of my account before he released my funds. I knew then they were up to no good and vowed to never return. Good thing I wasn’t distracted because he would have been a little richer.

I learned years ago that the people at the top of Smart and Final are anything but smart. In the local outlet where I shopped, they had a security guard standing like a statue at the entrance while highly suspicious individuals would stuff their pockets with everything from food to party supplies. You could walk down the aisles and see open snack packaging on shelves yet when I pointed this out to management, they'd just shrug and do nothing. Turns out we all were paying more for their incompetent management and business practices. This story comes as no surprise. By the way, that local S&F store I used to shop at was permanently closed 5 years ago for massive inventory loss.

My local Walmart has been price gouging us especially the last few years. During the pandemic, my Walmart added a wing to their store which didn’t make sense to me. We were all going through a pandemic, and I just didn’t understand how Walmart could be adding on to their store while we were taking a hit because of Covid. I used to buy a 4 pound package of 94% fat free ground beef for about $15. Now that same package is about $28. And what about the price of egg. $5 for 18 extra large eggs is crazy. Were the chickens on strike? No, these greedy shitty companies are price gouging us to death. My local HEB is doing the same thing. HEB’s prices are even more than Walmart. So, you can imagine how much HEB is making. These companies are disgusting. What can the rest of us do to shame these companies to lower their prices?

I enjoy shopping at fart and smile, they are doing the same thing that everyone else in the world is doing right now except for they got caught. There's plenty of items out there in the world that have gone up exponentially for no reason other than someone is trying to make an extra dollar off of someone else!
