The video recording is directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, a giant figure in music films for producing documentaries/performances by Gould, Richter, Fischer-Dieskau and so on. For now he is virtually the only person allowed to work with Sokolov for video recording (which is amazing given that Sokolov is well known for his hatred towards any form of recording). Well, he does like dramatizing the performer's interpretation, but on proper context. If you check out Sokolov's Prokofiev 7th 3rd movement, again directed by Monsaingeon, the camera stays frozen throughout the music. He once said in an interview that he decided this was the most effective way to convey the tension.
