Thank you for going to the trouble of recording this for us Anson. I really hope Yunchan Lim hears it , if he hasn't already. I can already see some parallels in his hand movements in the large sound areas in the Rach 3, and in his attention to detail as well. Solokov is incredible. The best Rach 2 I've ever heard.

You will never convince me that the moment starting at 9:30 isn't the most beautiful moment in music history. Immaculate playing.

This is hands down, by far, the best Rach 2 ever recorded.

As a pianist who has heard countless recordings of Rach 2 and regularly attends Sokolov's recitals (I consider him the greatest living pianist) I am astonished that it's taken me so long to discover this recording. Undoubtedly the best I have ever heard. Sokolov sounds like his own orchestra, the voice control, colours, and sheer force are truly superhuman.

Right, this is historical for that. The best pianist in his best performance.

This conductor really gets this piece. This group actually plays fortissimo/triple forte whereas all others I've heard barely touch forte.

One way to describe this is Masterful... The way the Orchesta and Grigory balance the melody is perfect. You can hear the tenacity of the performers as clear as day.

Stunning technically, musically and emotionally. A pure wonder.

Rachmaninoffs second piano concerto is not just technically impressive, but certainly the most beautiful piece ever composed. Words cannot describe the sublime joy and tranquility of the flute passages, nor the utter dispair of the first theme. Rqchmaninoff takes us, the audience through the entire spectrum of human emotion and experience, and he does so constantly reminding us that no matter how terrible and unjust things may become they always have the possibility to get better. This is the piece i will never stop listining to and this is the piece that i will love until i die.

I will accompany you on that journey. Rach. was my fav Composer by far. This Concerto is my very favorite. There is an old movie called, "Dangerous Moonlight." The producers or what have you tried to get Rach. to write the music for it, for which request he declined. So, a different artist was commissioned to write its music in as close a Rach. Style as possible. HE SURELY DID! It's called the "Warsaw Concerto," and the most beautiful thing I have heard outside of this Rach. Concerto. Look on KZread for a girl at a baby grand piano beside a big window, wearing high heeled shoes, with long hair. I think her name is Olga. She clearly has the best rendition of that song. If you haven't heard the Concerto, I think you instantly fall in love with it, as did I. Happy listening! 😊

Sokolov's playing is so ethereal. He always brings out colors I never hear anyone play. Just simply breathtaking.

I have never heard another performance of this particular piece that quiet equals this Artists interpretation! What a pleasure to listen to him AND this Orchestra! Hats off to a very fine orchestral performance!!

The final few bars with their triplet chords represent the greatest finale in concerto history, and Sokolov devours it.

Sokolov ´s total mastery of the piano is awesome ,as if it were part of his body, is awesome.

Uno spettacolo paradisiaco! Lo adoro! ❤️

I've listened to all the other interpretations I can find but this is the real deal. Grigory reads the mind of the composer so well and puts his soul into each note and seems to be leading the orchestra.

I wish we could see more pianists like him. Not afraid to pound the hell out of the keys, showing a bit of personality when the music calls for it. Nowadays so many modern pianists play weakly under the guise of accuracy and convention.

Yes, a lot of people mention his interpretation passionate and I'm not saying they're wrong but when I hear this recording or any other of his interpretations the first thing that comes to my mind is solidity, absoluteness like there is no search, no ambiguity whatsoever. It doesn't even sound like Rachmaninov tbh. Yet it is amazing.

The whole orchestra sounds almost like a choir at 35:15 I haven't even listened to the whole video, but I need to revisit famous romantic works again. Just from the tiny excerpts I heard, this performance is stunning.

One wayward thought comes into my mind ..some times get compassionate concern for the exhaustion & stress and pleasure Steinway & sons feel after a Sokolov performance or practice.

А для меня самый лучший пианист это Алексей Султанов. Абсолютнейший Гений. Гордость пианизма в Мировом масштабе.
