    The ornamentation is up the creek. Solokov needs a copy of Rameau's own table of ornaments!

    The greatest pianist of our time. Sokolov is simply the wisest, the most intellectual musician of our time. He knows how to extract all the conclussions, all the hidden meanings, all the gestures, mimics, symbols of a composition.

    @@yosserc Then you don't know what to listen for. This man is doing things you will probably not see any other great pianist be able to do. Look at his Tempest sonata mvt. 3 if you want to understand why he's special, especially the modulation to the 2nd theme in the recap.

    I attended a recital of his in Warsaw last November and he generously gave SIX encores! The girl next to me was falling asleep and wanted to go home but I was at the edge of my seat the entire time!

    I attended this performance in Madrid. It was miraculous from beginning to end - and in my opinion absolutely no one plays this particular repertoire as well as Sokolov does.

    Well, it's really unlikely that a lot of today's pianists will be forgotten considering it's all digital and widely accessible. Pianists going forward will have a wide library of interpretations and other pianists to look up to.

    Perfect recordings. I found him decades ago when I picked up his Hammerklavier . I have always held him up there at the top . Unforgettable and intelligent . Delves into repertoire so rare from russian performers ! Would love to hear him in Ravel and Bartok ? Maybe earlier he programmed the Webern Variazonen ? He also creates magic in live performance as so many videos attest here ! What a master .Now with Argerich ,Schiff ,Kocsis just died maybe Pires .One of the true greats of the ww2 generation!

    Sokolov est vraiment bien pour la musique de Rameau, peut-être fait-il un bon pont du clavecin au piano, il est domage qu'aucun éditeur nous propose l'intégrale. Sokolov is really good for Rameau's music, maybe he makes a good bridge from the harpsichord to the piano, it's a shame that no publisher offers us the complete version.

    I’d never heard of Rameau (or Sokolov) until Vikingur Olafsson’s Rameau/Debussy album. His approach is totally different, but I’m so glad it led me to videos like this one.
