Have just come from his concert in the same hall. Just in 2022. And he also played the same piece (actually the whole op. 117). Absolutely magnificent!!! The public went mad asking for more and more (about 5 or 6 encores as a result).

Yes, we heared him, here, in Graz. Wonderful! In my opinion the great Sokolov is one of the best next Baremboim, Kissin, Brendel and Pollini. He played 6 encores......

Here is a tender Brahms unforgettably performed by Professor Sokolov...

Can’t believe I wasn’t familiar with this pianist. Blind spot now corrected - he is beyond perfect. For a while I thought he was playing it a bit too freely (I try to play it a bit more literally) but once he hits the half way mark it’s clear he’s working on a whole other level and his tempi are in service of a totally clear vision and some deep well of inspiration (not to mention breathtaking technical virtuosity).

This pianist never disappoints.

He gave his all in the Brahms and we got something really special. slow section was beautiful

Greatest living pianist and this performance is a good example of why. There isn't any other pianist that is close to his level of artistry.

Indeed, he played also Rachmaninoff and Scriabin on March 1, 2023. And a year before he played Intermezzo from Op. 118

This is truly fabulous.

Perfectly held together as a single coherent musical idea, absolutely disarming and wonderful

I can't wait until Deutsche Grammophon, if possible, issues some of his Brahms recordings! The recital at Wiesbaden a week ago was phenomenal!

One of my favourite Brahms' pieces that I have listened to... probably more than one thousand times .. In my humble opinion, Julius Katchen & Radu Lupu's playing are the best... RIP Radu Lupu....

I came here after listening to this intermezzo by my favorite pianist Arthur Rubinstein. Sorry 'Rubie': from the first notes it is obvious that Sokolov is so much superior. He treats every note with special attention like no-one did before him. This is Brahms as it must be played, technically perfect, yet with unparalleled poetic sensitivity. I also love the way he keeps his hands on the keyboard a while after the ending, to prevent those typical barbarian morons from starting to clap like mad even before the last note has died out.

What a joke. Bronfman for example has equally good technique ( if not better) and exquisite taste which never offends. He's far superior to Sokolov in Rach 3 for example

Probably a student in the process of becoming a professional musician.....you have to be very mature for this music and you may not be able to fathom so many layers of it at a young age.

@@mackiceicukice what’s funny, I’ve always prioritised playing from the heart over playing what’s literally written. Probably because I’m not as technically good, but I always appreciate artists who play freely. It’s an interpretation after all!

Как всегда, Григорий Соколов заставляет себя слушать. Даже эта малосодержательная пьеса, где нет уже ни одной новой идеи, звучит под его пальцами как шедевр. Как точно и тонко рассчитан пианистом этот звуковой храм!

Борис Шалагінов Почему вы считаете что пьеса без ‘новой идеи’ лишена содержания? Не всё-ж нам вперед куда-то гнаться, ни разу не оглянувшись, разрушая само естество музыки - мелодию, ритмику... Порой нужно оглянуться и взять из прошлого лучшее, что можно. Этим, по моему глубочайшему убеждению, и прекрасен Брамс.

@@sandryushka Тут я полностью согласен с Р.Вагнером: найдя коммерчески успешный вариант, некоторые композиторы (писатели, художники...) начинают его эксплуатировать, то есть на все лады повторять уже однажды найденное и пользующееся успехом у публики. Увы, но он имел в виду и Брамса тоже...

Если Вы литературовед, то лучше рассуждайте о литературе и воздержитесь от подобных суждений о музыке. Если Вы так говорите, то хотя бы обосновывайте Ваши суждения, иначе они выглядят голословными

Я, например, не очень люблю музыку Шопена, но никогда бы не осмелился утверждать, что его музыка примитивна и не несет ничего нового. А если Вы высказываете такое утверждение по отношению к Брамсу, тем более его общепризнанному шедевру (каждое интермеццо Брамса- это маленький шедевр), то докажите фактами. Так например делает автор канала Inside the Score, разбирая по полочкам структуру музыкального произведения и приводя конкретные примеры с иллюстрацией. Вагнер мог что-то говорить плохо о Брамсе, но он был величиной, равнозначной Брамсу. А от Вас это слышать странно. Что дозволено Юпитеру, не дозволену быку.
