GRIDSERVE: Full Tour of the JUST OPENED Gatwick Electric Forecourt

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A full 4K tour of the charging setup and the interior lounge at the freshly opened GRIDSERVE electric forecourt located just outside Gatwick Airport, south of London.
It's a very impressive site considering it features 26 total rapid chargers (22x 350 kW ABB units operated by GRIDSERVE + 4x Tesla v3 Superchargers) in addition to the 4x 22kW AC charging sockets in just half an acre!

Thanks Martin. The prices are too high, as usual, but they are useful for people on longer drives. We need far more large recharging stations, and quickly. So this kind of news is welcome. Thanks for the tour.

Nice video and very nice to see positive developments in the UK as well. It's been a while since I've been to the UK but I regularly hear KZreadrs moaning about the public charging infra being rubbish. Keep up the good work informing people about the reality, the disinformation on KZread about EVs is getting ridiculous!

Great video! 👍 While these forecourts are very impressive, it's no wonder that Gridserves prices are going up when they build such grand facilities. Shame there's nothing similar further North.

I suppose GRIDSERVE is working through their list but the upcoming ones (with planning already secured) are going to pop up at Markham Vale, Nevendon, Gateshead, Plymouth and Stevenage, so a decent spread IMO + supposedly even more are under development.

It's hardly just a direct link to the prices of charging and the cost of the facility. It's more complicated than that, it's also the world's economic situation that is affecting everything, from individual to company. And, I guess that if Gridserve had made a simpler facility, you and many would have complained about that.

Just a matter of time... Putting EVs under the building with a possible thermal runaway wasn't smart.

I think its unlikely that Tesla will open those 4 up to all, because you'd think the point of them is to give Tesla drivers sometwhere they can charge even if the others are full.

What about cars that have had an electric conversion, will they get a fine fron the cameras ?

  • @MartinKarel

    @MartinKarel

    5 ай бұрын

I suppose the registration data should be updated to reflect that, but even then, heard that the previous Gridserve forecourts would have thermal cameras to detect a hot ICE / exhaust. Worst case scenario, I am sure there will be attendants on site who will be able to manually approve cars on the monitoring system.

Good to see for EV drivers but Gatwick has 40k parking spaces - they’ll going to need a lot more!

  • @MartinKarel

View these charging hubs as the electric equivalent to the petrol station. You will only go there if you need a quick top up en-route. In case of this specific Gatwick site, I believe it was mostly pitched as charging for staff who can't charge at home, airport visitors coming to collecting family / friends, taxi drivers, etc. You are correct that the long stay car park will need a lot more chargers, but it's a completely different solution, given the time to fully charge is not a concern.

@@jericoba98% of charging for the 60% of folk with driveways would be at home, overnight. If you do that then you spend 10 seconds plugging in and 20 seconds unplugging, a lot less than queuing to get into a petrol station (those with the cheapest prices always have queues) spend 3 mins refueling, then another 4 mins queuing/paying. Get an EV and you do things differently. Only 2 or 3 times a year will I wait 20 - 40 mins to recharge, just enough time for a toilet break, or lunch. If you think we stay watching our cars filling up then you don't own one. Would never go back.

Unfortunately the vast majority of the population have no garage or driveway to be able to this. They have to park in the street where its not feasible or safe to run an extension lead across the pavement .@Paul_
