It was an absolute thrill putting this together. A truly pivotal moment for EV's here in the UK....You'll soon be able to fill your car up with fresh solar from a sustainable energy source 92 million miles away. It will arrive after an 8 minute journey from the sun to the earth, land on the solar panel a few yards away from your vehicle at some locations, and propel you on from there. Put simply, it cuts out a few billion years in producing the energy to get you on the move. What's not to like? Thanks to Heston Harper for putting this up!

There are so much talk about black outs, this shows net zero on this site. I’m sure it can be done in many more sites. It also shows the passion in the family.

If I were a grocery store I'd begin to kit my whole car park out with this set up, cover the store roof in solar panels.

Think how much energy a Tesco or Sainsbury's uses. Why don't they build them with solar panels on the roof?

Super exciting project, I can't wait for them to be ubiquitous across the UK. Going to look to make a visit to the site once it is operational! :)

I’m not entirely clear what this is a world first of, exactly. However, HUGE, congratulations on taking on the monumental task of integrating the energy production and storage as well as the point of sale delivery within the business model. I truly hope this is a huge success and is just the first of many.

It will only work if they sell enough cars. I live in deepest Northumberland. Our local small station has had a BP charging station forced on us. We had twelve parking spaces. Now we have 9 + 1 rarely used EV charging station. And just how is that going to work? First guy in at 7am to catch the train to Newcastle to work for the day. Sod off anyone else who needs to charge.

@@woodwhittler7582 one slow charge point in a station car park seems almost as pointless as only having 12 parking spaces to me, certainly for a commuter station as you claim... unless that’s indicative of the number of people using the station obviously. But Northumberland can, and have, also built a 40 stall charger powered from solar panels over the top and with accompanying battery storage. Unfortunately that’s the council spending the money on their own headquarters, not their community. Of course the fact remains that 66% of housing have off street parking and the majority of those could install a home charger, which is far more convenient and cheaper than public chargers (apart from the free ones) or indeed petrol stations. You say will they sell EVs - but the question I have is who ever would be buying an ice vehicle by 2030?

This is just a few miles away from me. Looking forward to seeing progress as the project nears completion. It looks like the other chargers round the corner will be for Teslas. Interestingly, there are two large fields full of solar panels just 1km to the north west of the site - about half the size of the Clayhill Farm site in Bedfordshire.

Probably is Tesla, I can't think of anyone else that would benefit from building high powered chargers next to something like this and supercharge.info thinks it is to.

Great project by Gridserve - hope they can build them all over the country. Pretty poor video production though. The camera microphone needed a windgag, and why only 720p resolution?

Close to the junction of the (north-south) A131 and the (east-west) A120. About 30 kM from Stansted Airport/Birchanger Green/Bishops Stortford or Colchester and about 20 km north of Chelmsford.

You have no clue ..... An average petrol station does 400 to 700 a day Cobham services on the M25 10 thousand a day. So you have 36 points to charge a car, the average car charge is 45 min's (Tesla) .... no car can take 350kw ...... NOT A CLUE .....
