GRIDSERVE announces dedicated EV charging network for electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (eHGVs)

Ғылым және технология

GRIDSERVE is delighted to be leading a UK Government-backed consortium to lay the foundations for a dedicated charging network for electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (eHGVs). The heavy goods sector currently accounts for 20% of the UK's transport-related CO2 emissions, so it is hoped this initiative really helps to move the needle on climate change. If the UK government weren't in the pocket of Oil and Gas, we'd be listening to Sir Toddington.

It was only a matter of time, it had to come. Well done Gridserve! There are already a few hundred fully electric HGV's on Britain's roads, and this now paves the way for more.....

Well done GS. Electric HGV's will make a huge difference to the operators. Operators are so good at planning, delivery to a cost. This will reduce those costs and reduce emissions. Stand behind a diesel one when it starts up.

Some of the issues we have in the UK. Warehouses and huge buildings rarely have full sets of solar panel on their roof, mainly because the local electricity grid can't accept the power. If Mr Harper and his backers can organise for large scale solar and batteries on some of these huge warehouses, the electricity for these trucks could be 90% green just from site. There is so much opportunity if we could just join all the dots.

Warehouse’s don’t have solar panels as most of the buildings are leased. They are owned by pension funds and investment companies that unless they HAVE to install them they won’t. Retro fitting is an issue but they could do it at the time of construction.

I'm hoping that charging with a trailer will be considered. The same is the case for cars & vans that are towing

@DennisBell-dbn agreed if you have a eV pick up towing a trailer definitely a pain to drop the trailer every hundred miles on a long trip
