She was Nordic through and through but she knew if she wanted to be free from financial burden she would have to swallow her pride and go back to the 'factory'. She was a big movie star at this point but she later became even bigger. Maybe she knew she would never come back. Her whole family left Sweden to America in the end.

Love Garbo since very long long time ago and this is a very touching video and u can tell she was so sad to leave her country and family

I'm so sad for her. You know she was damned if she stayed in Sweden and maybe live a poor life or live in America have money, Then be trailed all over the place. But she was smart. She invested wisely so if she wanted to stop acting she could. VERY SMART. You know I wonder if some idiot said "They will not want you when you are old". I know later she did a screen test in 1949 I believe and there was that other film that never happened, It just seemed SOMETHING was said. God Bless her. I hope she's at peace and walk the streets in peace.

Ah.. poor lady! Leaving her native land to return to the superficial town of Hollywood, where she had to earn a living. Home is always home. Never mind, dear lady. Soon you will have the means to retire and travel wherever you wish. Rest in peace now and God bless.

Greta loved Sweden very much , especially since she was leaving for the unknown !The only strange thing is that she did not return to Sweden afterwards . Thank you so much for this video !

I think Greta had just lost her sister some months earlier in Sweden. Louis B Mayer wouldn’t let her go to her family. Nice guy!

Garbo at sea; the Swedish port seen/scene in the background of the departure shot is marvelous. I would have enjoyed being with her that day on board for New York.
