Just a very quick improvised recording of this beautiful tune, to demonstrate my new acquisition. It's a 12 bass piano accordion, built by Hohner in the early 1930s. I bought it expecting it to need lots of work, but in a surprising turn of events, most of the hard work has been done for me. It plays beautifully, and all it really needs is the tremolo adjusting on a few notes, and the messily-repaired original bellows replacing with a new set. I think I'll leave it as it isfor now though. The old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" is particularly relevant to mechanically complex musical instruments. You might expect 12 bass buttons - six bass notes and their corresponding major chords - to be massively limiting, but for folk music it's all you really need. I have the same notes and chords on the bass as a C/F melodeon, only they're unisonoric. Oh, I also taped off the thirds so the chords are now neutral, meaning they can stand in for major or minor, and also be combined in interesting ways.
