Greg Nelson's Muay Thai Clinch

Спорт

A small sample of Greg Nelson's Clinch DVD available from trainingblades.com/store/
IMHO, this is the best instructional on standup clinchwork on the market. It has nearly 2 hours of information, is very well planned, organised and explained, with little filler time unlike a lot of other instructionals. The techniques work against fully-resisting opponents that know how to do the muay thai clinch. I have seen some videos teach "defenses" to the clich that makes me wonder if those instructors have ever experienced a good Thai/wrestling clinch.

i love how everyone gives Mr. Nelson comments on how to do the clinch. The guy has traveled the world to refine his clinch and it's one of the best. Paulson, all kinds of trainers bring him in for his standup grappling. Besides, he makes it as easy as it looks even when you're resisting! Coach Greg has trained several fighters including Sean Sherk and Brock Lesnar.

i'm a grappler so i loved the vid! i havent seen the full vid but one counter that i see a lot in actual muay thai events is using the knee to create space and check the opponents knee. its like you knee the guy and leave your knee there checking the guy's hip so he can't knee you back. it is very common in competition...is it in the full vid?

I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the technique called a "super Punch", or a leaping punch, one can cross a great distance in a short time and launch a powerful punch that looks like a lead jab and ends up being a full body straight right. I'm sorry about my ignorance, I am just learning and have a great respect for this style. Keep training and stay strong.

@solpapisolmook from what i can see, it's harder to knee or kick correctly when your head/neck is being controlled and pulled down. your height, and your depth is being checked, which will control your range.. you'll want your hands on his arms to keep some control, rather than strike.. the person putting the clinch on has more stability, since they're using the other person. the person in the clinch, once they lift a leg, they lose alot of balance. just from eyeballin it, no MT training here.

@ solpapisolmook In a Thai fight, its illegal. However, I do understand you: it seems that during the clinch, the groin area seems very vunerable. So the next time you're in a street fight, don't knee to the sides, just go directly to the groin or stomach ;)

You've obviously never been in a clinch. (no offense) The clinch is exhausting and if you're in the clinch on the losing end your head is being pulled every which way... i.e. where the head goes the body goes. You could try and knee to the groin but chances are youll get thrown off balance b4 you do as the winning ends main objective is to increase distance and pull your head to his knee. As for punches to the belly, while int he clinch its almost impossible to get a straight punch to the gut
