My great-grandfather passed when I was 5, but i have fond memories of him and his garden - an acerage that he'd turned into a food forest, with grafted trees that produced 5 types of apple on the one plant. He was always either in that yard or inside quietly doting on us great-grandkids. I now have a plant science major and a passion for gardening, but SO MUCH gardening knowledge was lost between his generation and mine. It genuinely hurts my heart that no grandparents; or aunts, or uncles great or otherwise took the time to learn from him. It feels like he and I sort of generationally just brushed past each other, not knowing how similar we could be. He's still the nicest person I've ever met.

I chop firewood on a daily basis, since that's our primary source of heat from November to April. And quite honestly, I do love the ritual of it all, both the actual chopping of wood (twice a day) as well as the kindling of fire. I do believe there's something to it, as you can't think of anything other than what you're currently doing, which is rather tranquil and mediative.

Welsh farmers were self taught masters to behold. My dad - did extreme midwifery on a birthing cow in a river in the dark, he rigged a genny to a Massey Ferguson tractor so we could get electricity during the coal crises, he knocked a hole in the side of the farm and built a bathroom and 2 bedrooms from the attic. Same with my partners dad - hedge twining, creating dams and a huge veg garden, just in a days work for them ..

It was hot and therefore we had all the windows open. When we arrived and they turned off the car the windows closed on themselves. All simultaneously. And I remember I was so fascinated that I whispered to my sister "Wow! It's all automatic!"

This is a fun conversation! I think there's an argument for the automated windows as it's probably safer to flick a button and drive than lean down and wind a window down with the other hand on the wheel, plus having control over the back ones if there's kids and stuff is good...but I understand the point 🤣 I'm 31 and I've always been quite happy to use something unti it doesn't work any more however old it is. My car isn't even that old like...2010 or something...can't plug in my music player or even see what the temperature is outside 🤣 I'm like who cares. Though i don't do lots of driving. My dad is also similar he'll always have a go at fixing something himself first (within reason) and takes any slightly warm and sunny opportunity to be in the garden faffing about with something. Also as an artist watching AI come into the picture a lot it makes me sad because the joy of doing or creating something with your own hands is special!

It’s such a shame because there’s a huge following for the video podcasts at the moment I wonder if it’s that these episodes aren’t being live-vision mixed and are filmed and edited after that it’s too much of a ball ache to go back edit a whole podcast for video and put it out

@joeymain2539 I agree, it is a shame and it definitely is a popular format. Yeah, my guess would be either KZread shenanigans causing an issue, or it's just a lot of work as you say, and 5-10ish minute videos are more manageable. Having said that, if we can have more Greg and Russell, then can we have more Greg and Russell, please 😅 🙏

Now if you made an automatic steering wheel cooling system, that would be a wonder.
