It's interesting how he talk about his wife's miscarriage and how comedy gave a little reprieve from that awful event as Only Fools and Horses did this quite a lot, having three 1hour and half long specials on the pregnancy, miscarriage and dealing with the miscarriage of Rodney and his wife Cassandra baby and it's one of the funniest comedies of all time, they have two other episodes on two funeral for two other characters in the show (grandad and uncle albert) and both the actors had died in real life, adding so much more too such a sad event and both episodes are beyond hilarious, while paying respect and really getting the deeper meaning of dealing with death. Another one would be the ending of Blackadder Goes Forth, such a poignant ending that hasn't really been matched.

All the love in the world to Stevie and his partner 💕 my husband and I went through something similar. We both have always wanted a dog to join our family and we were delaying getting one until we had finished having children as we didn’t want to have a super young baby around an energetic puppy! Anyway things didn’t work out with this particular pregnancy and we were sitting in the waiting room (waiting for a similar procedure) and he turned to me and said ‘ah well, at least we can get a dog now’. Honestly in that moment it felt like the dark clouds that had been hanging over us since we found out the bad news had parted and the sun had finally come out again. That one comment from him (which may well have seemed heartless and inappropriate to some) made me feel like everything was going to be okay, we sat and laughed in the waiting room and must have seemed completely mad to those around us, but to laugh after so many days of just darkness was so freeing and all the weight that had been on our shoulders was finally starting to ease. It was beautiful, laughter is beautiful and will forever be the best medicine ☺️ again all the best to Stevie and his Mrs 🥰

First of all big love to Stevie, to be the positive effervescent man that he is despite the tough times he’s been through is a true reflection of how amazing his soul is ❤️ Secondly, Russell Howard is such an interesting man this episode is one of my favourites now. The man is much more than a comedian, he’s a wordsmith and a philosopher who happens to be very naturally funny. He should have his own podcast I’d love to hear his deconstruction of life and the humour he finds in it more regularly.

So sorry to hear that! Was listening on Spotify had to come here for the clip too. My mum passed away 5 years ago, it was the hardest time of my life and after her funeral at the wake, I cracked a few random jokes that got a laugh and it lifted the rest of the afternoon, the hardest day of my life became a tiny bit easier for me, my brother and my family. Laughter might not heal but for a few moments you forget all worrys.

Top guys. Stevie's story was a beautiful moment, what a guy. This made me want to share something: me and my friend make jokes about being transgender that honestly we'd never say to anyone lol, like it's quite dark jokes but it just helps us get through the tough times. She's a trans woman, I'm a trans guy, and I'm lucky enough to have a family who have come to terms with it, but her family are still making it difficult for her to be around them, and for some reason making these really dark jokes just helps alleviate that crap you know? Like once she was messaging me and crying and after quite a deep chat I said a joke (won't repeat it, it's an inside thing) and she said it made her feel better and that made me feel like I'd helped which made me happy and it's just a lovely thing like Russell said. No one has to hear those jokes, we would never purposefully hurt someone else by repeating it, we just know that we're both comfortable with it and it really helps us deal with those tough times when people in our lives are giving us grief lol

My gf is a training midwife, and she’s had to deal with that same situation but from the other end of where she was the one delivering the lost baby. She was also supposed to have an older brother but the same thing happened with her mum. When I picked her up in the morning she just cried the most I’d ever seen her cry because she felt guilty that she had to put that family through what they had been through even though it wasn’t her fault. I pray nothing like that ever happens to us or anyone else but I’m so glad to see the resilience of some who can bounce back from something so horrific. I feel so much for the people who can’t and hope they find peace someday.
