I don't know what she means by "growing up" because I think growing up means understanding your needs and learning to provide for them and for any other responsibility you may take on. And I feel like she accomplished that. I get the notion that "growing up" somehow also includes "getting serious" but let's throw that out the window, shall we?

In Spain the C word (in translation) is super light and used constantly by all generations. As a brit gradually acclimatising to the language, it was a bit of a shock to suddenly understand that grannies were calling each other C@^÷ all day, along with to the grandkids. I teach English here and now we talk about different weights and how informal, adult conversation have a few differences. The first time one of them was being clever and called me a C to my face in English (friendly, smiling all the while) I nearly fell out of the chair.

So in the end I used to get up and prep the breakfast and then go back to bedroom and read, even to the point that if she came into the bedroom I just pretended to be asleep.
