I work with greenwood making chairs and my understanding is because of the circular growth rings there is a lot of tension as the branch dries .it is better to split the branch down the middle or rought shape it first leaving it oversized then let it dry and finnish later

@@wozzasboomerang i would work it green ,leave it oversized so it doesn't warp , being thinner it should dry quicker when dry for couple of weeks in a warm place I use the hot water tank cupboard .you hear the wood when dry if you tap pieces together .you hear a crisp sound . it should be stable. then finnish it off . Could work

As a Native American who makes a similar tool, a "rabbit stick", I find it interesting that you seal the green ends with linseed oil. I have used spray paint, housepaint, but my favorite is Elmer's white school glue. Cheap and very effective.

people in the US who run saw mills paint the end of the logs with heavy latex paint to seal the ends and stop checking (splits)

Wish you and yours an awesome 2022, 2021 is cactus and im not crying over it. I picked up quite a few tricks n tips on this video, we have coastal pine trees that grow on cliffs along the coast, they grow very slow due to not having basicly no dirt, for some reason it make them very curvy and knotty. Anywho, that make them very tough and hard, since im fortunate enough to work alot in the forrest along the coast here i will take a gander if i can spot a righteous one for a bunny Boomy. Im not a very patient man, so i think the wait will take a toll on my lifespan, but i´ll manage. Ill be sure to butter it up and bag it, Neville Currie down below me in the comments had a tip about rough cutting it before drying to cut back on the splitting, I think i will cut me 2 and try one with just oil and bag and one where i cut it roughly in size and bag it. I mean if i find a split piece after 12 months i will be guttered. Great video you legend, keep em coming and be safe. \o7

Do you know if your sponsor has any plans to scout other locations? Utah perhaps? I happen to know of personal experience that mountain mahogany can make a quite excellent throwstick.

The sponsor likes the USA and it's wildlife a lot and loves the Utah landscape. I'm sure he'd be willing to come some day when the world opens back up😁

What a grand New Years eve treat! By the way, Roughly how many creatures have you managed to thunk with your sticks in total? Also have there been any other creatures you have managed to snag apart from runny babbits?

Thanks. Happy new year! I've got over 100 rabbits in my late teens all on the run (they always see it coming if they are in a squat). There were a lot more rabbits around back then and it was easier to get them because I could get so much closer (most of the kills were within 15 meters). I haven't hit anything else but have only come close, you need lots of practice to pick up the running pattern of an animal.
