Green Beret Loses Leg in Firefight and Keeps Fighting

Ойын-сауық

"Right there and then, I knew that this was where it was going to end for me. But I still had work to do." Nick Lavery is the epitome of what it means to be a Special Forces soldier. Always fighting, always striving for life. "I wasn't firing a gun and I couldn't see my enemy, but I was in a fight and I was gonna throw some punches." That's the kind of fighting spirit that Americans should point at and emulate in their own lives, be it on the battlefield or fighting to be the best person they can be back home.
"Success is nothing more than the sum of small efforts performed daily."

Amazing huh? I guess it helps his mental recovery to understand the position the Afghan guy was in. Reminds me of what the Nazis did to Rommel. He's dead either way. Either he takes cyanide, gets buried with military honours and his family is looked after. Or he's put on trial for conspiring to kill Hitler, where he WILL be found guilty. He and his family will all be killed. It's a no-brainer. I expect Mr Lavery understands this. He's quite the inspiration.

This hit me like a bull to the gut. Then I heard someone say "don't know man I think your good ." Never got his name but looking at the picture of him in the hospital bed I am pretty sure that it was you but either way 19 months later I walked in the office of that OR doc and told him the that the probability of keeping me in a wheelchair for any length of time was not a good one. I snapped out a Salute and about faced the fuck out of his office. If the soldier that said those words of encouragement was you man I thank you I was gonna give up but those words for some reason stuck and I never forgot. Greetings from Germany, from a very peaceful person, who is still somehow fascinated by those stories. I often feel, that people can generally get along well with each other. It's politics, ideologies and people in power, that are dividing the common men. Without politicians (or at least politicians that end up creating international conflicts) there would be no war or large scale violence. I wish peace and safety to you, and everyone else in this world. However I realize, that this wish may perhaps never become reality.

Indeed, one hat most home-bodies forget. Especially politicians, both left and right. Everyone is so eager to complain, but no one with a brain would complain for long if they saw this. This man lost his leg, he lost some brothers, he almost died, and he got back up, forgave the man who did it, and got back into the fight. No complaints, his mindset was “have i served enough, have i done all i can?” Why doesnt he have a medal of fucking honor???
