Great Simple Utility Diver! | Citizen Promaster Titanium 200m Solar Quartz BN0200-56E Unbox & Review

#MAVERICKWATCHREVIEWS#BESTWATCHREVIEWS A rather plain but very functional diver from Citizen. Great watch as usual from Citizen but this one just doesn't excite me. I love the functionality but this watch won't be asked to the dance.

Crown is worth mentioning, but its also worth keeping in mind....It's an Eco-Drive, you get it right and you only adjust it twice a year for DST if you adjust for DST otherwise you can go years w/o touching the crown....ridiculously reliable and accurate timepieces!

I think un-screwing the crown more than 2 times would be necessary. The number would be at least 6 times maybe more. On the 1st of May, July, Oct, and Dec the watch will read 31 and would need to be adjusted. Its an accurate movement, by the specs it still can be off 15 sec month so 2 min possibly every 4 months. This can be done when doing the date though.

Crown is not bigger because the previous BNO-190 has a bigger crow and it digs in the wrist for many people. They are the same case so the crown is smaller to fix the issue...

I recently purchased this model, over the newer release Promaster Chrono Diver CA0719-53E.... I chose this for the exact reasons listed as the negatives - plain design and light weight. Over the years i realized two things....that I wasn't using most of the functions other than a elapsed time rotating bezel, and weight has a lot of impact on daily wear. Of all the watches I've owned, this is easily my favourite one. Your review is top notch, I a different from other reviews that try to go into more "effects". Stick to your solid down to earth reviews, it's a nice pace. Hope your channel does well.

Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. And it's funny to see your comment because I've actually been rethinking this watch over the last couple of weeks and in retrospect it's relatively plain design really is more of a plus than a minus. Enjoy the watch!

If you uave never worn a Titanium watch, show up when you try it on without a watch on. I almost passed on this because I was wearing a much heavier Seiko at the time I tried this on. My first response when I put it on was it felt cheap. I came back the next day with no watch on and it felt better. My first watch I owned as an adult was a Citizen Titanium. But it still took me by surprise.

The blue dial version really pops with that electric blue and yellow seconds hand. I was looking for a lighter diver than the comparable Seikos ad this fits the bill perectly. For comparison, my Sumo adjusted weighs in at 176g, and my Citizen at only 99g. I bought mine at a Citizen outlet, so I inspected the seconds hand on mine before purchase to make sure it hits the markers precisely. I was debating between the black and blue, but when I took the blue by the window and the light hit it, I fell in love with the sunburst blue. It's no a "bland" watch to me at all. It's the perfect everyday watch. Light on the wrist, legible and always accurate to the second. Small crown is not an issue because I will only use it once every two months to chage the date. Btw, the case and bezel integration, doesn't allow for a larger crown. Citizen knows how to make titaium solar like no other. The onnly Seiko that is comparable to this is the Shogun which is an automatic, but even that one doesn't have machined clasp like this Citizen and it's three times more expensive. Bang for buck this is the best titanium diver on the market!

I bought this one. A bit disapointed by the looks of this watch. However it looks ok enough and I do like the case shape. Second hand was better aligned on mine, but the bezel action was not good. Other than that, it is the best Solar diver out there IMO. Which should make it an extremely good proposition for some people. Even if it is flawed. Edit. The bezel was bad at first, but it wears in after a while, and gets really good IMO, if still somewhat different/unique.

"bland"? I like the novel cut of the bevel teeth. I like the patina of titanium ...but ...I'm an aerospace engineer, so ...of course I would. Definitely a man's watch. The small crown - that's a good thing. Number One watch killer - stripped crown thread. A big knurled crown looks cool ...until the ape/man over-torques it. The designers know this. Crown pop - agree, but ...at this price point ...very VERY good watch. I do wish they had included perpetual calendar programming, but it is fussy to set up, so, the watch is still a brilliantly effective brute as is. Nice, useful vid. Thanks, Maverick.

They also make the BN0191 which isn't titanium, but has the same design. For the price you can get it for, I'd rather have that than the automatic version of this. Unless Citizen is going to throw something better than the 8200 series movements in a watch, I have nothing to get excited about. They do have some nice high beat movements like the 9015 that I would probably be interested in, but certainly not for a non hacking 8203. I'll stick with eco drive if that is what they are going to use.

  • @ocdetails

I have the blue version of this watch that isn't Titanium. BN0191 is the model. Anyway, they put a different crown on it that makes a huge difference. Otherwise it has the same vibe as this watch only with blue and a great orange second hand. However, you can never have too many Citizens, so this is definitively on my list to get. If I had to get rid of all of my divers then I'd keep my BN0191. Absolutely nothing not to love about it. I'm sure automatic snobs have something to say about it being quartz, but I don't care. I'm not fussing about my watch being off a couple minutes every month. It's a perfect watch with exactly the right amount of wrist presence without being too sporty or loud to not wear with a suit. I can wear this watch with anything and it is absolutely perfect. Titanium does make the watch lighter, but that's why you get Titanium. I've got a few Citizen titanium watches and they are all awesome. The only downside is that titanium does scratch a little easier. I don't have any of the super titanium versions yet, but those are supposed to be a little less scratch prone, but time will tell. Either way, I will definitely add this watch to my collection in the very near future. Thanks for a thorough review!

Just curious ... can anyone confirm for me? I just ordered this watch, but the pictures of the watch I ordered has hands with a silver frame, and I'm noticing in this video that the frames of the hour and minute hands are painted black. I like this better than the silver hands . Is this differentiated in the "056E?" Do they mix them up randomly? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

titanium is definitely an acquired taste. 80% of my metal watches are titanium and i guess they can feel really cheap and toy-like if you are used to the weight of steel. steel is more balanced though since the bracelet is as heavy as the watch itself you don't really feel the torque when you swing your wrist. titanium is more akin in feel to wearing leather or NATO as the center of gravity is at the watch itself. and i much prefer the imbalance in this regards

This watch is too big at 44mm. They needed to make it in 40-41mm. I have a Citizen Excaliber (BN0100-51E) which has a better bracelet with the integrated ratcheting dive extension, coin edge bezel and better dial and hand design at only 41mm (though not titanium). I agree the design is also kind of plain. Hope Citizen does some smaller divers soon as almost everything they do besides the Excaliber is 44-45mm which is too big on my small 6.5” wrist.

Titanium is not harder than stainless steel. Not even beta titanium can be hardened as hard as stainless. That is why Ti scuffs and scratches so easily. Ti has a higher strength to weight ratio, is 100% corrosion resistant, is non-magnetic and is hypoallergenic. Ti is a great choice for a lightweight watch.

  • @maverickwatchreviews

Citizen's Super Titanium is harder than your average stainless steel. Super Titanium™ is Citizen's proprietary engineered material that takes solid titanium and treats it with a Duratect coating leaving a material that is 40% lighter and five times harder than your average stainless steel. Depending on how you treat and temper both metals one can be made harder and/or stronger than the other. And of course Ti is a great choice if you want a light watch...then again so is plastic :)

If you look on the back of the bracelet you'll see little arrows on the links. Those tell you the direction in which to push the pins out. Then when you're ready to put the bracelet back together you simply push the pin back in the opposite direction. You'll be able to feel when the pin is pushed in far enough and visually it will be even with the others if pushed in far enough.

I bought this watch and love it. However there are two niggles that I have, The screw down crown is too small for my liking and the date window is also too small, which is also the case with most other watches. Other than that the watch is a workhorse and great for every day use.

I bought this model about a year ago from a grey market vendor who shipped it in a box that looked like it'd been garbage picked. Lack of legitimate packaging aside, this is a decent piece, although the bezel action is non-existent. There is no ratcheting action whatsoever---it feels more like a pepper mill when turned, with kind of an unpleasant grinding sensation. I'd read that this was an issue with the bezel on this model, and was hoping I might luck out, but that was not to be.

Like the video! - Like the watch too. Well proportioned and understated. It ticks (no pun intended) so many boxes. But....(there's always a 'but'...) there are three things that let it down, IMHO. The main thing is the size and depth of the date. It's difficult to read in anything other than bright light. A watch that size with such a small date window makes it very awkward and inconvenient to view it. Secondly...why didn't the designer of the 'skeleton' hands incorporate a 'gap' in the hour hand that would allow the date window to be viewed, even at quarter passed the hour!? Thirdly (and this might just be due to my particular wrist) there is a very sharp corner to part of the clasp system on these citizen bracelets. You see it in the video, it where the reviewer rests his left thumb just before pointing out the three micro-adjustment holes. I had a BN0150-61E that I had to send back as it started scraping the skin on my lower wrist within minutes of starting to wear it. A rubber strap would solve this, but I'd like the option to use either. It's a shame because I do really like the look and Eco Drive features of this watch....I'll keep looking. :-)

I was torn between the BN0191 (looks just like this only in blue) and an Orient Mako II. I wound up buying them both and I sold the Mako again almost immediately. This one just looks so much better. My big thing was the Orient felt like something was missing between the bezel and the chapter ring, but Citizen pretty much fixed that with their design on this one. I know they are two different looking watches to some extent, but ever since I got this watch I started noticing that gap in design between the bezel and chapter ring on some watches that turns me off. This one is just well thought out and looks sharp. Nothing flashy. Nothing to brag about. Just a great looking watch.

Weird. Sapphire is more scratch resistant but more brittle too. All other things being equal, If you shattered a mineral crystal you would have done the same to sapphire. That is assuming both were in good shape and of equal thickness.

Do not buy this watch., I disagree about the clasp, it is poorly made. I bought it and the inside part of the the clasp is poorly machined. The edges are sharp and dig into the inside part of your wrist . If you run your fingers along the edges of the inside part of the clasp you can feel how sharp they are. Such a shame because the rest is pretty good for the money. Will have to put it on a rubber strap unfortunately.which makes the bracelet obsolete and a waste of money. My Seiko Shogun had the same issue and I had to fit a ratcheting type clasp from the Tuna Titanium which has the inside part of the clasp in stainless steel. I think even on the Grand Seiko divers in titanium the inside of the clasp is in stainless steel.

Nobody points out how sharp are the edges of the titanium brackets on some of these watches. If, at the beach, you give your girlfriend (etc) a bear hug, you will literally draw blood. This watch is particularly sharp. Perplexed that they don’t file the edges.......
