That is a great analogy with the guitar string struck in two different places having a similar but different effect alike a dipole fed at two places. As a fervent bass player, I have noticed that harmonics produced by isolating (touching) different node locations will more readily produce multiple “harmonically” related notes much better when plucked from the end of the string than at the center. It also takes more force to produce the same volume when plucked from the end. This is so similar to the multi-band options presented by and EFHW or EFDP.

great ! love the tips. wanting to do some campgrounds this summer. maybe some 6 meters? so many battery choices today. sodium ion coming out. LTO lithium. LiFePO4 ETC. I have NiFe in my off grid home. just test them MPPT charge controllers first for noise. that my tip. years back we used golf cart battery's . so heavy . I ran vacuum tubes portable in the past in the 1980's . a outher tip . for the old generator we used a crock pot (slow cooker) made my dinner and stabilized the generator . radios today draw so much less power. and todays folding solar panels really put out even on cloudy days. so much more fun now . 73's Boston NY

It was the best "Little Print Shop" in Texas. I remember it well. I had to wait another week or so before my license arrived to use the callsign.

I've notice when i put out max radials with my multiband vertical I get better performance. I have 6 bundles, 5 wires in each bundle. 4 bundles are 16.5 ft long and 2 are 33 ft. I found I got better reception on 80m with the longer radials. Or, it was coincidence! Using a center loaded trap/coil on the 80m wire i get enough bandwidth on 160m to get FT8 contacts. Im 4 parks down to my N1CC 10 bands/10 parks award! My DXCommander clone is my favorite for POTA, but I use my EFHWs more, cause theyre so easy to deploy!

Talking about ground plane, I came across information that you want something that has welded joints, not a loose weave. For screen door mesh, I wonder if you can just solder each intersection...?

Ward missed a small point on mobile voltage. Industry specs for car alternators are 13.8 volts at idle, up to 14.4 volts full output. 15 volts would indicate a blown regulator, and never should be found. But the classic ICOM706 series were defectively built with a 15 volt rated cspacitor on the input power. 15 volts plus or minus 10% tolerance to be specific. And that meant 13.5 volts could destroy them. In fact, there was a major lawsuit threatened over this. So beware your voltages, even Icom has gotten them wrong. An inexpensive 15v crowbar protection circuit was published in QST years ago, or could easily be recreated, in case someone hooks uo "12" volt solar panels, which are typically 17vdc.

A good cheap surfcasting fishing rod, strung with heavy line, can cast a one or two ounce weight way up into a tree and it will reach back to the ground. Tie your antenna line onto the weight and pull it back up, and your are legal and safe from all "weapons" rules. Cheap on the Memorial Day sales, cheaper at thrift shops.

I'd pay a fast $19.95 for an audio app that transcribed qso's and entered them in the logbook. With no support for cute non-ITU phoenetics.

Is a loop the same as an omnidirectional antenna?

We were talking about a transmitting mag loop. They are bi-directional.
