Sam from Towson, MD here: my wife and I are in the throes of visiting as many significant Great Lakes sites as possible. As part of that journey, we visited the Big Soo several years ago. There is a lovely public “park” like area running very close along the southern most lock providing lspectacular views of the ships as the traverse the lock. There’s even a modest motel directly across the street from this park where you can see the ship rise or descend 24/7. And, yes, we missed some sleep watching Upbound and Downbound ships throughout the night. A recommended adventure not to be missed👍

The "Footers" may have their length to add to their grace on the lakes, but nothing can beat the old forward bridge "Lakers" for looks!

Her main engine is boiler tube steam turbine and the bow thruster is a diesel. That puff of black smoke is from the bow thruster engine.
