What's interesting is, quiet quitting was the long overdue reaction to quiet firing. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Companies have been practicing quiet firing for decades now, especially in the corporate sector. They simply got away with it for years because there was never an exodus of employees. You were always replaceable irrespective of your position. Now the employees are giving them a taste of their own medicine. If you listen to any of the pro business media channels that covered quiet quitting in recent times, especially the conservative ones, you'll find people losing their goddamn mind over quiet-quitting. Employees never thought they could challenge the status quo and they never knew they had alternate career options and ways to make money (granted that still comes with a certain amount of risk). A system that was skewed in favor of the producer class somehow always managed to keep people on the hamster-wheel. The pandemic has exposed the cracks in the system. The initial shock really affected the working class. The producer class managed to shake off the crisis with layoffs. However, that became a boon for the working class as it revealed that getting laid off isn't the end of the world. Now the companies are finding it difficult to take advantage of the desperation and there's a shift in the power dynamics. The hyper-capitalist companies are pretending to be surprised that nobody's buying their deal. They're trying to guilt trip workers by comparing moonlighting and quiet quitting to cheating. While expecting things to go back to the way it used to be i.e.: people slaving away at their desk. "I mean these people seem to think they can expect fairness and respect simply because they were born"

You make a good point. I've seen this quiet firing play out when companies want older, more expensive employees out so they can hire younger cheaper employees and not have to face age discrimination charges. Sad but true.
Managers who quiet fire show their own bias and insecurities, and end up with a team of flatterers. Also quiet firing somebody means creating distrust in the whole team, such a team does not perform well in the long run. Generally quiet firing leaves a trail of resignations.
my boss has been quiet-firing me since i got hired a decade ago, I have not quitted but I have been quiet-applying for the management position instead
I have experienced quite firing over three and a half decades back. I contradicted the managing director of the company in a large meeting with some hundred plus people. That was the end of my career in that company. It took me another four years to acquire additional qualification and then quit the job. But, quit I did. Your last few sentences about the employer being supportive of the underperforming employee is out of place . These days, in the corporate world no one wants to spend time on such tasks. There’s no dearth of replacement.

You're right. Especially in India, there are many candidates available for one position. Employers need not bother about the under-performers, they can fire and hire.
Molly Gambhir is Absolutely Right ✅ .When a Company cannot train the employee about the Job Profile which they need from them , then the Company itself is killing its Business. The Relation between Company and the Employee should be Very Much Attached .
Narcissistic managers in the workplace, is the reason why quiet firing happens.

Excellent situation understanding
I was a victim of quiet-firing. Didn’t realize while it was happening though, but realized it much lately. I kept on working under a very ignored environment. Perhaps I refused to even loudly quit. But, one needs a very strong resilience to do so, and I can guess why one would easily quit (given the records I have from the employees before me), which they rightfully should. Based on my experience, the inability of the manager to take responsibilities of their failures makes them do such things, in order to protect their established image.
This is high time to think about stopping work under someone .. No matter how small it is start a business and be independent . It also has a lot of pressure but it is healthy.

This happens like you said to avoid severance, or ego clash, favoritism and other non performance related issues where power plays dirty forcing employees to quit. HR too goes easily with upper management hence employee has little hope of justice. HR’s role in protecting employee interest is very weak- they mostly cater to needs of upper management. It used to be called bullying until you quit. I've been there. Knowing that I am a good, reliable, honest worker I have never been treated so mean before. Boss singled me out to tell me off for something everyone did as a group together. Constantly ignoring me and always pointing at the not so good things rather then the many very good things. It wears you down and yes I fell for it. In the end he had me in a corner and I quit. Only realised later how I was slowly gotten rid of. This was 20 years ago and I am still angry at me falling into that trap.

Nice vdo. Quiet firing and Quite quitting are both dangerous. It shows job dissatisfaction, leads to low morale and ultimately decreases the productivity as well. The sooner management acknowledges this problem, the faster they can turnaround their company.
In our country 🇿🇦 This is called constructive dismissal. It’s a situation whereby the employer creates a hostile work environment which leads the employee to resign. Since the resignation was not truly voluntary, it is, in effect, a termination. Fortunately, employees have the right to make legal claims against employers for constructive dismissal.

Yup. That's what we call it to here in The Philippines.
A very critical and much needed topic as these days many corporate companies applying the sane tactics to their employees. I have also experienced the same in my career but I’m happy that I left that place. Yes payment of severance is one of the reason but apart from that many other reasons are there when management or company “quite firing” an employee just snatch their rights.
You missed one important and very common reason, i.e. scapegoating an employee to save higher ups in the ladder. Sometimes a project go southwards simply because the concerned employee didn't get enough resources and was blocked with dependency on other non cooperative individuals. Manager simply failed to help the employee. Now the blame can be passed on the straightforward guy who was doing his job without getting indulged in office politics.
If you're subject to this, just don't resign but moonlight until the 1st job fires you.
Usually when this happens is when the superior senses you're a rising star and one day you are bound to challenge his/her position.
Quiet-firing is not new, they are just good at hiding their dirty deeds. Few years back i started working for a International Firm, & 💩 manager won't even tell me what was the protocol or work. Typical soft firing for ego or whatever. So i jumped team, gave firm major clients within a week, and ghosted em. They were begging for me to come back. I don't work like a beggar for PAY, You owe ME money for my quality service.
SMART employees like me are always looking for better prospects and will never stagnate in any job if the pay+perks do not suit the work profile. In fact, during the exit interview, I have exposed the lack of teamwork of the upper management have got immediate steps taken or got the guilty fired, or shifted to a competitor company for a better pay package
It’s called indirect bullying !

Me too
I recently went through this at a job I had worked hard to build up over almost four years. Business went from having $8.00 a day in sales to thousands per day, in the time I was there there were no bonuses, no increases in pay, always a demand for more from us, while never improving the working conditions, refusing to update outdated tech-I’m talking windows 7 operating systems with no proper P.O.S. System in a medical field, for sales in 2022. Our printer was so old the firmware couldn’t speak with the software once a security update was done 2 weeks before Christmas, causing us to not be able to print receipts or orders, all having to be done by hand and then the owner got pissed bcs too much money was spent on stamps to mail out hard copies our elderly patients wanted. This video is absolutely spot on with regards to management not being willing to sit down and discuss your future contracts or forward movement in the company, I experienced this all the while my expertise was being used to further their designs on reaching a wider audience, refusing to send me support staff during the madness of the pandemic so I got injured multiple times which I was blamed for, then refusing to implement any modern and simple strategies to increase productivity and customer satisfaction and then blaming the staff for not making bigger profits even though the then accountant, who quit a few months later, confirmed the business was making piles of cash. When we finally got a new hire, after 4 failed attempts thanks to my director insisting training for a job with more than 10,000 products for ppl with life threatening illnesses that needed constant one on one care, teaching services, as well as trouble shooting information, did not require more than 2 days training before they should be able to handle themselves and the insane amount of tasks required. When someone finally worked out, the way my boss was behaving was absolutely the signs of quiet firing, & I knew that I was training my replacement. She took over, which was fine by me, but the position to work from home I was supposed to have disappeared with some BS "restructuring" which of course couldn’t work for me bcs I didn’t want to work at the office. I was offered 4 weeks severance with a bunch of lies and nonsense excuses to push me out. I’d like to say I was the only one treated so shamefully but so many employees quit in the last year or were on medical sick leave and still the director and owner refused to listen to respectful discussions and politely requested improvements. If any of this rings a bell for you, get out, find a new place of work, and if you can afford it try to save 3 months of rent and money for bills and food so you can rest and heal from the burn out you don’t realize you are experiencing at the hands of abusive and toxic work environments. If this is you, I am so sorry, know that you are wonderful and deserve better. God bless!
Quiet firing is just a sign that people are incapable of conflict management. Same as quiet quitting in some ways. Although the power dynamic make things worse in quiet firing. People don't know how to talk nowadays
I have been quietly fired by at least 1/3 of my bosses in the past 35 years. When I was young I worked very hard and created my own opportunities by submitting and winning proposals. Now I have the option to retire earlier with less benefits. I think mental and physical health are more important to me. As a Christian I have been praying for those people according to Jesus’ teaching. I am sure the Creator of all things can create new opportunities for all of us. I think “Firing quieting” is simply a way to publicly humiliate and belittle a person until he/she gives up and leaves. It’s a form of bullying. I am glad to find this “support group” by sharing our experiences and advices. May God bless all of you!
Best way to turn the tables on those trying to quiet fire you is to dig in your heels and pretend life couldn't be better. Ninety percent of the time those trying to quiet fire you are themselves on shaky ground and insecure. It is only a matter of time before your boss's boss will fire your boss and you will be back in business.
it's nothing new, Indian IT companies especially TCS is well known to use this technique for decades now
In the US, if you quit instead of being layed off, you can't collect unemployment money.
Only thing missing is the long pauses that Palki adds when she shifts cameras. You can do it! Bit more confidence

Except for demotion, I’ve definitely been through all of these on jobs “I should have left.” The good news is something better was always waiting at the other side. Sometimes quiet quitting comes from quiet firing. I’ve always gone above and beyond until management (sometimes literally because they thought I wanted their job; I did not!) begins this kind of behavior. Unfortunately, too many people believe it’s harder to stay where it’s not working than to get a better job; there’s always something better and So Important to get a coach and have a dream!

Most people quit their managers and not the company. Once my ex colleague's manager got a good opportunity for him cancelled because his peer whose spouse this manager is good friends with would become jealous. This was stated to the customer so that they cancel from their end. This manager would interview only people of a particular community, a particular region and not even give other candidates a chance. I have seen this manager stopping colleague from attending trainings because his peer ( whose spouse this manager is good friends with) would get confused or overwhelmed. And when all this was taken up with this manager's manager, he was told that the rapport between them would be ruined and hence no action could be taken. Once again, in most cases employees quit their managers and not the company.
In private organizations, this kind of thing happens.

Yes these companies are doing this. Even during the height of the pandemic in nyc some managers were not allowing office employees to work from home there was alot of favoritism
Good reporting

We all have been through this
Read about it first in Robin Sharmas book, "secret letters". Juan gets " Quiet fired" Before he dies of a heart attack
I'm going through this stage .....
Also commonly known as workplace bullying.
Food for thought
The good thing is people who are quiet quitters don't care about getting fired. They have already internally made peace with that outcome. Quiet Quitters want to remain under the radar and will appreciate it if they are not constantly invited to meetings and given more tasks. So quiet firing works for them. Most meetings are a waste and drain of time and cause employees to actually start working after hours. Be thick-skinned and continue to work a reasonable amount and enjoy your salary and benefits. Don't quit simply because the manager is ignoring you. Ignore the manager. Don't quit - wait for them to formally fire you, or start looking for another job if you feel there's a high probability that you will be fired soon. 😅😅
@pinoyheartbeat7245

I have witness the company I’ve worked for do this to many employees. I never felt good about it . I knew my time would come , because after all this is what they do . Sure enough 7.5years later here they are trying to quiet fire me . However, 😅 I got wind & quit . When they needed help the most . I win . Unfortunately, my friend who has been there 11 years is being treated the same- quiet fired. She doesn’t have an option except to wait it out . No one deserves this treatment. I told her to leave immediately. They will treat anyone with lack of respect and recognition, especially if you challenge them .
Adult bullying in the work place.
I'm experiencing this since joining i.e. last eight and half years even after giving too much growth that never had been for the department. Many career things are already lost. Yes it's workplace bullying. Labour laws in india are not well monitored in all workplaces.

If you are being quiet fired, document it and the sue for discrimination. The quiet firing method is done by management/leadership that fears conflicts and communication…

Very common during times of recession..........
Right now I am working with ''Teleperformance process Flipkart'' and I just got to know that they will force us to give resign once the "Big Billion Day Sales is over".
I think you are missing a point here, people do quiet quitting if the hike is low (just like you said 3%-6%) or there is no enough appreciation or there is no engaging environment. Even after working hard and investing more time we employees will get the above mentioned things and then we lose interest on job. You are the one making the damage(less pay,no recognisation) and we do quiet quit because of it, then you are repeating the same things and term it as quiet firing.
