Grandpa Bought a CRF250L Rally

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My dad used to own a CRF250l which he sold and has kinda regretted the last year. Now he picked up a used 2017 CRF250l rally and is back at it with a new Dual Sport. Its too cold to ride but we wanted to look at this bike in the shop and see how it compares.

We definitely will. He got it out for a 40 mile ride since we filmed it and he said he likes it a lot so far

Awesome...love my Rally. 2017 model now with almost 30,000k's and have done plenty of off road adventures on it. Re: pricing and availability issues...same here in Oz.👍

Congrats to him on the new bike! I was curious why he didn't get the 300 when I first saw the thumbnail, but your explanation made a lot of sense. It seems like a great deal on that. I'm not very familiar with the 300, but isn't it not a true 300 and is a 285 or something like that? I'd imagine someone would make a big bore kit for the 250Ls like the WR250Rs have and you could get that extra HP/TQ(probably even a little more) for less than the price difference between what he got this for and the 300's price tag.

I know they made other improvements besides just the motor too but ya. The cash saved can go into a controller. Seat and he bought a rack and bag for it too. I have never been able to convince him to do a big bore kit but maybe if they make one someday I can get him to do it

I’m 56 and my 2017 Rally is my first motorcycle. I bought it for $4,500.00 with 900 miles. It already had Full FMF exhaust, seat concepts saddle, gear indicator. I’ve put 2k miles on it in a year and a half. It has been great. It’s top heavy so competent knobby tires are critical and make a huge difference in the bikes dirt performance. It tops out at 75 mph. So I’m moving up for better highway performance. Have fun.

I'm trying to tell him to get a different seat but he thinks its fine. Its better than my stock seat but an upgrade is still worth it IMO

You guys were at where I'm currently at. Get a sub 200 mile '18 250 Rally for 5k otd or 7k for a new non-abs 300 Rally. That's a nice chunk of change for tires and some accessories. Then another wrench... new DRZ400S is the same 7k as the 300 Rally.

Drz is carbed, has only 5 gears, and feels dated. For the dirt you are better off from what I've heard but these are better suited for dual purpose.

We went out on the U boat trail with 2 guys on brand new 300 rallys. I had to pilot them through the extreme tech sections. I was very impressed with the balance and feel as i thought they'd be too bulky to ride single tech trail but they performed fine.... Except for going under fallen trees. Then the tall screen n the weight made them a PITA! Theyre not very new now either...fit crash bars, even a fall off the sidestand will be costly!

When my brother in law is around with his bike it looks like it is ready to enter a pro race. Mine is just slowly showing more and more wear which I like. Super clean and new is great to look at but stresses me out too cause I know I'll make sure it doesn't look that way for long!

Oh, and I plan on keeping my Rally forever. It is bullet proof and super comfortable. Also, Honda nailed the styling. Even the harshest critics acknowledge how sharp the bike looks.

Hey Man - tell your dad it's perfectly fine if he wants to buy a new bike, sell it, buy another one, sell it. The younger guys here my tease a bit but they don't mean no harm. 30-40 years of hard work from now, after fulfilling obligations to their families along the way, hopefully they will have the chance to enjoy life as much as your 68 year old dad and I are enjoying it right now. Being one of your older subscribers, I appreciate the fact that you include his experiences as well on this channel. Hope to see more of this in the future.
