    I was 11 years old when I saw Blackstone Sr. At the Cass Theater in Detroit in 1955. I was one of the children who put his hand on the Vanishing Bird Cage. I am now 79 years old.

    There is a difference between Occultist and Illusionist, sometimes they mix, but most of the time they don't. Most illustrationists don't believe in the occult, and that's fine, but then some do and that's fine too. The best are the illusionist who practice the occult and can say with no doubt they are different, yet can mix. I know illusionists who say anything occult is bunk, yet the twine of the two hands keeps on with their blend and get on just fine. They just have to remain quiet about it.

    Anyone know who Lance Burton picked as his successor in the "Royal Dynasty" now he's retired?

  • @igorsvacic217

    @igorsvacic217

    5 жыл бұрын

    no one. Lee Grabel retired in 50s and passes the mantle to Lance in 1994 :) And he took it from Dante on his own words. Dante never stated his successor and when passed away Lee stated "he was in process of grooming me to be the next one, but he died". Its a travesty, started for money. Kellar supposedly recieved it from Hermann but theres no evidence whatsoever. Kellar just started to advertise himself as Hermann's successor to increase his popularity. I mean, how much worth has any title in magic that was held by Lee Grabel for 40years, of which he performed 5 lol

    This program is too light on calling ppl masters of the craft. I certainly wouldnt call Harry Blackstone Jr a master. A classic, no doubt. A legend even. But master of the craft is the person that is technically the top of the cream. Harry wasnt, never. Dont get me wrong, he had routines he did perfectly, but those are mostly not technically challenging tricks, they require master acting, tempo, all other BUT sleight of hand and dirrection managment. Which are, and allways will be, THE CORE of the craft. There are masters, among legends, among classics, among known and equally frequent (if not more) among less known or unknown in total magicians. I saw the master of masters among the ppl who dont even want to perform, only to their peers to "show a new idea". Harry certainly wasnt a master, as it wasnt Houdini (to my best knowledge), as it werent quite a few of those big names among classics. And to say also this, it doesent meen its even needed to be the GREAT magician. If you have other things, you can have a descent technicall skills and you will flow. A lot of masters lack other things, and are WORST performers than some ppl who arent half as good in sleight of hand as them. Mastery of the craft is a thing thats held so high only by other magicians. Because ONLY other magician KNOWS and understands what was put into practicing time to achieve certain level of fluidity, no matter if we talk cards, coins, or even something simple like rubber bands.

    It's hilarious how you list the most well known magicians of all time and decide that they are 'not masters'. You don't get to be the most well known and beloved stage magicians in all of history without being a master of your craft.

    You can never know what a world where men are viewed by society and law as the head and rulers of their families is like to live in. In order for you to understand you would need to travel back in time and become a woman. Since time travel is impossible you'll just have to accept that the world you live in today is not the same world they're talking about here.

  • @Offshoreorganbuilder

    This is very interesting. Thanks for the upload. But how disappointing to hear some of the views of the female magicians, on the subject of being treated as second-rate, because of their gender. If that is so, then, of course, it is wrong, but it struck me that the assertion that men preferred tricks involving 'mutilation' and 'power' etc. (a reference to the old sawing the woman in half and the like) was ridiculous. If the magician is any good, I'll enjoy their illusions, regardless of gender and I certainly do *not* want to hear something which starts to sound like 'feminist' whining when it comes to entertainment.
