TVs 50 Greatest Magic Tricks

Ойын-сауық

TV illusionists have been sawing ladies in half catching bullets between
their teeth reading minds and performing feats of escapology for decades.
Channel 5 counts down the best including the astonishing set-pieces of Penn
and Teller the mind-bending of Derren Brown and the street magic of David
Blaine. It features spectacular illusions such as making the Statue of
Liberty disappear intimate card tricks and the lighter side of the business
thanks to the inclusion of comedy great Tommy Cooper. Paul Daniels and new kid
on the block Dynamo also feature in this magic compendium with contributions
from Joe Pasquale Dick and Dom and Stephen Mulhern.
Enjoy

ChEssManiaC 1, David's (Copperfield) od the 'Laser Illusion' was impeccable. He is a master performer who like all geniuses, is not afraid to surround himself with others who, in ways, are as or more inventive than he alone. I book, produce and promote Illusion shows and have been working with the best, over the years. And David is deservedly, a legend! And a gentleman.

I've always liked magic shows especially live performances. Starting in 1969 my wife and I enjoyed seeing the live shows in Las Vegas especially when the shows could be watched close up. You give a table captain a gambling chip of sufficient value you would get ringside seats. We saw Penn & Teller, the Pendragons, and other important and up and coming magicians of that time. The only show we walked out on early was Seigfried & Roy. They kept reminding the audience to buy their overpriced, schlock souvenirs for sale in the lobby after the show. We did not pay a hefty price for a ticket to get advertisements. We enjoyed all the other performances. 😁

I don't like how people hate on David Blaine. He single handedly made magic relevant again, and in a way that people could relate to at the time. On the street, with real, unsuspecting people, at the height of the reality TV craze. I didn't like his later, hiding in a box or freezing in ice spectacles, to be honest, but he did things we'd never seen before and made way for the hundreds of street magicians on KZread.

@@mustang8206 eh, just a personal preference. I want to make this clear: I'm absolutely not saying that his courage and ability to push the human body far past what most had thought possible, wasn't incredible. It was! I'm talking specifically about television content. The long, televised events with the large timer at the corner of the screen while all we saw was him still sitting in the same spot, eyes closed, while some reporter told us how many hours and minutes it's been when we can already see the clock in real-time, just wasn't interesting television for me. The beginning and end portions were certainly interesting and extremely impressive! I hope I was able to clear that up for you! 🤗

Ok, the one crucial detail this program has left out is David Copperfield "Flying". "But, they included that one!" you may say. Indeed they did, but that is not the amazing part of his trick. Flying on the stage is mundane. No, what was truly amazing was right after his trick, they cut to a camera outside the venue. He comes out, thanks all for watching, then flies away like superman. And that seared into my brain like an internal tattoo.

the problem i have with the chris angel water tank trick. is the response the other magicians get. what are they talking about with trap doors and such. the tank was pushed against the wall. covering the front of the tank would allow the wall itself to be pulled up...allowing the girl to move into the front of the tank. which extends past the wall. when she is in the false wall drops back down. trick over.

I understand that this is British TV special...but they sure seemed to put the British magicians up on a pedestal. They made fun of David Copperfield a lot, but although he's cheesy, he was one of the first to truly turn a magic show into something more akin to theatre. He was one of the first to start adding theatrical story telling and drama into his pieces. The became more like performances pieces than magic tricks.

They also had a Brit explain American culture, which was not only uninformed and ignorant, but rude. He said that Brits were taught manners as if we aren't! Look up the raging problem they're having with juvenile delinquency there, and tell me if those kids would act like that for a second over here.

I used to be impressed by these shock street magicians, with their own filming and editing. Now it's the cheesiest thing on the planet to me. I also am not a fan of the huge stage productions with all kinds of obvious props. Close up sleight of hand is still amazing.

  • @LunchMeatTrump

    @LunchMeatTrump

I agree. Sleight of hand requires actual skill. The other people just use gadgets and props, or edit the video to only show what they want seen. Also a lot of street magicians like Blaine and Angel use plants and stooges, which is lame.
