You are correct, The man was doing ASL (American Sign Language). I studied ASL as I was a teacher for SPED (Special Education), then when I taught the regular classes, The students LOVED learning sign language. They wanted to know how to spell their names and how to say "Hi. How are you? and then their favorite songs - It's a good skill to have, never looks bad on a resume to be fluent in ASL (or any countries sign language). It isn't nearly as hard as it looks and can actually be fun.

When Pearl Harbor was attacked, a U.S. Navy band aboard the USS Nevada had just started playing the national anthem. Being aboard one of the prime targets by the Japanese, you would think that most people would run for cover but the band played on. They did play a little faster. Even while gunfire and explosions happened around them, they played on. It's one of those things especially in the military that you don't stop the national anthem once it is started and you stop everything you are doing to show respect. The national anthem is tied very much with the American flag. While the flag is just a piece of cloth and the anthem is just a song, it's what it stands for that is so meaningful. Representing both the sacrifices of the past and the hopes of our future as a nation.

The attacked happened right when "Morning Colors" started aka the raising of the flag. Part of the daily flag raising ceremony includes playing the national anthem. There was bravery but also they were following U.S. Navy regulations that "The National Anthem of the United States, "The Star Spangled Banner," when played by a naval band, shall be played in its entirety as written and as prescribed in the official U.S. Navy Band arrangement, which is designated the official Department of Defense arrangement."

The anthem also ends with a question. Originally it was probably just meant to ask if the flag was still waving after the battle but I often think it’s a call for Americans to ask ourselves if this is still the land of the free and the home of the brave. It reminds us of our incredible history and challenges us to do our part in preserving that legacy so we can pass it down to future generations intact. Best national anthem ever! God bless the USA! 🇺🇸❤❤❤

Don't feel bad pausing. While I agree that it may be disrespectful, I also believe we have to understand how KZread reactions and copyright claims work and be forgiving of non Americans if they commit a faux pas. I appreciate the attempt to be respectful this time just as much as I appreciate the fact that you would even listen to our anthem being performed in the first place. It was good. Very good. But Whitney's version is incomparable. Her voice and the situation at the time can not be replicated. It still brings tears to my eyes. Our Anthem is very hard to sing well. The lyrics were a poem written at the Battle of Fort McHenry during our War of 1812 against the British and the tune was actually a British drinking tune. The two fit together perfectly and were meant for each other. I would love to see you guys react to Whitney's version. There are versions out there where the TV shot is totally masked, but seeing her is not the point. Hearing her is where it is at. The only time I've ever watched the performance in full without KZread's stupid restrictions was during the live Super Bowl broadcast of the Super Bowl. Every other time I close my eyes and just sing along while the tears stream down my cheeks. Find a way, Jonah. You and your family will be better for it.

As an Army and Navy veteran, I am very picky about the National Anthem and true, pausing, talking, kneeling, etc., during the anthem is disrespectful. However, I see no issue with pausing during the anthem when doing a reaction video as KZread tends to remove videos otherwise. That being said, I will never understand why people consider this the best version. Yes, it is good, but not that good. Number one, IMO, is, and always will be, Whitney Houston, followed by Pentatonix. Thanks for another great reaction! 😀💕😀

I dont see any of these "patriotic" sentiments when Americans are booing other nation's anthems. Especially in international sporting events. We want respect for our anthem, we should show the same respect for the others as well. More often than not, when the other country's national anthem is being played, you hear boos, whistles, or disrespectful talking. We should chastise those who are disrespectful towards other nations, if we wanna get on our high horse and ask for respect as well.

Being 'offended' is a personal choice. Nobody is responsible for 'being offended' except for those deciding to be offended. Let the 'karens' be offended, and maybe someday they will realize that it is only valid when it is intentional! YOU DO NOT NEED TO APOLOGIZE to KAREN

Please allow me to correct you with no offense intended. According to the most recent poll, pride in America is near an all-time low, with just 39% saying they're "extremely proud." This is down from 70% twenty years ago. Among young people age 18-34, the number is a mere 18%. In my opinion, the numbers are headed much lower. And, please trust me on this, the numbers are very similar in the UK and somewhat similar in other western nations. The most 'unique' thing about American pride is that it's crashing.

American pride is never crashing!!! It's about the flag and what that means to us! Also our military who sacrifices so much!!!!! What IS crashing is the belief in politics! The belief in politicians! The crooked rich from Washington! But as for American pride?... NEVER! Americans will always have that pride!!!!❤

@@karenwalsh1143 The Declaration of Independence is perhaps the most progressive political document ever written. My support for the principles expressed in it is unwavering. That's why I have such great respect for anti-war protesters, laborers who engage in struggle, environmentalists and civil rights advocates who fight and sacrifice for democratic rights, liberty and freedom. Their country of origin is irrelevant to me. I'm an internationalist, not a nationalist. We're all brothers and sisters.
