Since I am an eighty-nine year old American and a Korean veteran, I have heard the beautiful National Anthem many tjmes. I guarantee you that my heart swells with pride and have shed a few tears every time. It means so much and is so powerful, especially in a crowd of people. And you sweet people are so special to let us know how you feel about it.

Whitney’s rendition of the anthem was powerful- filled with pride. Chris’s rendition is humble. Our country is politically and socially divided right now and Chris’s rendition at this time was just perfect.

Socially and politically divided kind of describes a lot of countries right now really. Chris’s also sounded powerful to me and like he was conveying pride in the country. Unless you mean a more sort of quite soulful humility to the tone he does have that element to his voice.

@@darrellpowell6042 …..the song was a British pub song sung by both Americans and Brits. The song was in the public domain and various songs would have different lyrics put in at various times. The song was very popular when the poem was written. The words of the poem were then set by Americans to the tune and was eventually written down as such. The US flag did use part of the original design from their time as a colony because the red and white stripes were very easy to spot on ships as coming from the US. So there was a practical reason for it. Are you British or something?

Chris' version is spectacular. Lee Greenwood & Home Free have a phenomenal version of Lee's "God Bless the USA". It's a little over 3 minutes & it is well worth listening to. I get chills listening to any song related to our Country. At almost 67, I always have & probably always will. My dad served almost 30 years in the Air Force & my father-in-law served in WWII. I carry a lot of pride in my heart for our Country & each & every person who served to protect our great land & our freedom. Please listen to Home Free & Lee's God Bless the USA, you will not be disappointed! Also, thanks so much for your interest & support of America! Y'all are truly a blessing to me & I'm sure to many, many others. Thanks again.

This version of our national anthem brought tears to my eyes watching it live. I have gone back to watch it several times since then. I love Whitney's version. However, this was the version our country needs at this time. Beautifully done. He is truly amazing. It should also be noted that the flyover immediately following the anthem was an all female crew, which has never happened before. Our country has come so far. I truly hope you are able to come experience something just as beautiful when your family comes to visit. 😊

God has been good to this Nation and He has His Hand on Us...I do believe this... We were meant to be special, strong, brave, compassionate and help for others in times of troubles... That's why our Freedom means so much to each of us..." Land of the free and home of the brave..." The National anthem was written when this country was under attack by the British navy. It is a wartime song, not a country ballad. The tempo and the big band sound of the orchestra along with Whitney Houston s strong voice was the way it was meant to be sung. I do love Tennessee whisky and Chris Stapletons voice, but not for the national anthem, Also, Whitneys version was released as a single and for the first time in the history of the national anthem made it to billboards top twenty.. My sister is a history teacher and when she teaches on the origin of the song, she plays Whitneys version.

I wasn’t there at the Super Bowl to hear Chris sing the National Anthem but I have been to hundred of events along the east coast including NASCAR races, basketball and baseball games, and mma fights where the National Anthem is always played or sung by someone before the event & I can assure you, that feeling of pride and freedom is amongst nearly everyone there! I’ve seen it when they all remove their hats, direct their attention towards the American Flag, and some even sing along during one of America’s longest standing prideful moments. I almost always have a tear or two fall with pride and divinity when I’m experiencing the National Anthem being sung…no matter how many times I already have. Thanks for the reaction. When Francis Scott Key wrote the anthem, he envisioned it song on that battlefield, in those forts, upon all the ruins. I hear this spectacular version of Chris Stapleton. I hear the glory "that our flag was still there". I hear the raw love of our country in his voice. I hear the rejoicing of victory and freedom "o'er the land of the free". I hear salvation for those who died and those who made it thru the war for "the home of the brave". I hear a sense of unrestrained relief and calm in every word. Chris resonates this version and exemplifies weary soldiers, tired nurses and doctors, children's camp counselors, teachers, tragedy survivors, and a local hero at a small town sports game. Perfection to the core of my heart.

I love our national anthem and, even as a teenager, I would get misty eyed hearing it. On a ten pt scale Whitney gets a 12 for her performance; Chris gets an 11.8 for his. I’m just so sentimental about her performance and the places and times I’ve seen it that it comes out barely ahead. Both of them could sing the phone book and it would be beautiful. Some facts! 1. The entire song is in fact a British drinking song. The Americans stole the music and made new words. 2. The US flag is 3/4 British. The 13 stripes are from the Grand Union Flag of British America the British invented. The Stars are American only. 3. In 1945 the US flag ONLY had 48 stars on it. IF you see 50 stars in a war movie, then its the wrong flag.

@@darrellpowell6042 actually, Francis Scott Key penned the Star Spangled Banner to the tune of the drinking song as it was popular at the time, having come out in 1775. The 13 red and white stripes remember our 13 original colonies and there were only 48 stars on our flag until Congress made the change to 50 stars in 1960.

I think they are both on par with each other. Thank you to your daughter! She nailed it. They are completely different stylings. Whitney's is more triumphant or like almost a get people out of their chairs type style. And Chris is amazing, too. I am so biased to Whitney I didn't even want to like his version, and he is the first person to actually make me tear up. His is almost a melancholy, remember-our-history/roots/trials & tribulations version. His version makes me think of what we've lost in our early days of fighting for freedom and our days since defending it. Whitney makes me just want to get up and cheer. Just completely different stylings and (possibly) intentions by the artist, too. They are equal imo.

This is the best rendition of The National Anthem I have heard. Chris puts 100% feeling in the song where most of the singers sing their versions in showing their ability of the type of singing they are known for. The lyrics are the poem Francis Scott Key wrote that was entitled "Defence of Fort M'Henry" was written telling of the fighting for our country against the British ships of the Royal Navy in Outer Baltimore Harbor while attempting to overrun Washington City which later became Washington D.C. Though the British had more firepower and a lot larger army after the battle they pulled away. This tells of our strength in keeping our land free and how hard it was fought for. To the ones who know the story brings tears to their hearts and their eyes instead of a celebration for the singers who are picked to glorify lesser feelings for the song.
