The real drama occurred during the rectification of the Buldronay. But that's just my humble opinion...

Many fans of Caddyshack and Stripes knew what it was to enjoy Ghostbusters back in the summer of '84, I can tell you.

I reckon this is the single greatest piece of scriptwriting ever to come out of hollywood. "...the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants..." ?!! You can't make that shit up!

This used to be my voicemail greeting. Many friends and family were confused that day, I can tell you.

The best part is how this sets up the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man at the end when he says stuff about a "Pre-Chosen Form".

I loved that scene. The first time I saw it, I wished a Ghostbusters prequel existed that showed those events!

Do you want some coffee, Mr. Tully? Do I? Yes, have some. Yes, have some!

Watching this scene as a kid was scary. Watching it for the first time as an adult I laughed my ass off.

Why has no one thought to name their band The Meketrex Supplicants ? Call the first album "Depths of the Sloar"! The fans could be called Shubs and Zuuls! Someone with talent and ambition (unlike me), make this happen!

+Thomas Harrison Meh, it sounds cool but that's about it. There was a local band around here here called Amboogalard that just loved Star Wars and they had a lot of Star Wars imagery in their flyers and demos. That's kind of cool because it was Star Wars and it had that cult status but I'd hate to be connected at the hip to a big budget 80's movie even if it was a pretty good movie. Actually it kind of makes it worse.

@@huntmastergutentag557 I don't know. I thought they were a local act from the 90's. It's possible that they signed with some small metal label though. I didn't follow them all that closely. I was just acquaintances with some of the members.

I'd say either the Shubs or the Zulls picked a bad form for Gozer to come and destroy them. Getting killed by a giant marshmallow man seems like a pretty ok way to go by comparison. :)

This is one of several lines in the movie I'm 99% certain were written by Ackroyd.

I made this an extra credit question on my midterm. Asked the kids to identify which movie this quote came from. Roughly 20% got it.

@MordaciousFilms When Gozer arrives it says "Choose and Perish". This means that the GBs would choose the form of Gozer the Destructor. So the GBs decide to clear their minds and thus avoid making any choice, but when Gozer disappears Ray admits that under stress his mind drifted to thoughts of his childhood at camp where they'd roast Stay Pufts on a fire. Thus the choice was made and the Destructor's form was a marhsmallow. Shuvs or Zuuls are people implied to have been eaten by the Slor.

Toddy Lane I guess the writers could've meant it that way. I think it's more likely that they just wanted him to say some crazy shit that sounded vaguely paranormal. Unless there some secondary mythology I'm not aware of. Comic book? The cartoon?

It's explained a little more in depth in the video game. There they actually show you what a slor is. Basically, it's a giant monster that produces the slime seen in the 2nd Movie. Back in the 1920s, the Gozer Cult accidentally summoned one into our dimension and Shador used it to build his own slime production plant on his family's private island. The rivers of slime in the 2nd movie were actually made by Shandor as part of an enormous citywide mechanism to both summon Gozer and power his destructor form. But when Gozer was defeated the mechanism remained active and Vigo took advantage.

Anyone who's ever played Ghostbusters The Video Game, and if you haven't you should, knows that one of the later bosses in that game is known as a "Juvenile Slor." The creature appears to take the form of a large, leathery newt. From what we can tell, the Slor does not breath fire, nor did it have any heat based attacks. So how the shlubbs and zuuls were "Roasted in the depths of a Slor" remains a mystery. That said what frightens ME is that the "Juvenile" slor faced in the video game was over thirty storeys tall. One can only imagine what a "giant" one would look like.

This might honestly be the best speech anyone has ever written! Seriously, how do you even come up with this! Genius.... I'm bet it was all Aykroyd

This was almost certainly Ackroyd, but Moranis ad-libbed a lot of his other dialogue. Everyone in this movie - Murray, Ackroyd, Ramis, Moranis, Weaver, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, William Atherton - brought their A game.

A sloar is a gigantic demon that resembles a spider, usually with gigantic gaping mouth or a hole on it's back that either ports you into the fires of hell resembles and simulates the flaming pits of hell.

@MordaciousFilms Because Gozer said to the Ghostbusters "Choose and Perish" meaning that they would chose the form of Gozer the Destructor. In the film they decide that to avoid death they need to clear their minds of all thought and thus not choose any form. But Ray's mind, under stress, goes back to his childhood days when they'd roast Stay Puft marshallows at camp. He has some dialog about it. The Stay Puft marshmallow man, being the first thought, then is the chosen form.

I would have lost it. If it were company level njp and you blamed the issue on the actions of a giant sloar I would have found you not guilty.

Two old demons of myth and legend. Basically Gozer could take the form of them if he/she wanted to. Apparently a Sloar was a strange multi armed spider like creature with a giant gaping mouth which was a reminiscent of hell or teleported you to hell.

I read that this same juvenile slor was the source of the river of slime from the second movie.

The Sloar is that dinosaur looking thing that you fight in Shandor's castle (The last boss) that you have to shoot his head with the slimeblower.

This is kinda sad because I know people that get like that with their role playing.

ha.. hilarious. Well in the video game a slor kinda looks like a dinosaur, a weird trex or somethin.

So basically, what this Devil Dog is saying, is that Gozer is coming back in a chosen form (looks like a human, but isn't, thats just how he/she looks), takes the form of a pile of rocks (which happens when he/she becomes the top part the apartment, right?) and then transforms into a giant slor (a moving...thing...that sucks people into hell). The Dog then makes a joke about people being roasted inside the slor... Holy shi-, I thought Ghostbusters was a comedy film! Fucking scary D:

This guy reminds me of that guy out of little shop of horrors. It sort of sounds like him, and look abit the same.

Seems like Ramis And Ackroyd had some sort of occult knowledge to begin with before writing the script... I wouldn't doubt if they pulled that stuff from something they had read before.
